Such a great Bassline on that -
This would be my pick - no affiliation with the seller. Split coil pickups are quieter than single coil which can hum.

Bang for Buck i don't think your going to find anything better than the Sire/Marcus Milller line/models (2nd gen) atm, Either new or used they have great (better) spec for a lot less than Fender's current offering $-$ .....Id would have suggested checking out the Harley Benton "Enhanced " range if you weren't looking at the extra Shipping/Taxes/Duty to get one into the USA. YT is worth a look for a round up, but id stay away from the Larger "review" channels with their "i got this for free....but this is my honest opinion"...sure sure, GL

Hi Gang! Hope everyones good. Putting my Ashdown head for sale- this is from December 2024 and used half a dozen times basically and can prove it. Working perfectly and with a fresh bill of service/review by Dave at Ashdown from September 2025 (faulty input jack) so fresh and ongoing warranty. Going digital with the band (Anagram + IEMs) so no use for this sadly. The head comes with cover, mint, plus footswitch (4x button). Happy to post, or short drive.

Yeah, tell me about it. I have 30mins of video from a gig there and not once does ‘Thomas’ look up. In text he spends 95% of any gig sideways on looking at his bloody amp, like it’s going to run away of something. To be fair though, that shot was taken at sound check so we were just setting things up.

Intonation is down to someone just spending time with a screwdriver and a tuner.

Squier Vintage Modified active Jaguar 5 string bass The previous owner did the following: Fender USA Hi-Mass bridge (will also come with the original bent piece of metal) Fender USA Noiseless Jazz pickup I understand the Precision pickup is a Fender USA one but don't know which one. Fender USA neck plate. I removed the Fender USA decal from the headstock and just stuck a skull/wings decal with my year of birth. I also stuck some red tortoiseshell vinyl over the black scratch plate.

Knowing Planet Rock, it will be Cadillac Three, Black Stone Cherry, Gun and Joe Bonamassa... plus some obscure 80s hair metal. - Today

As someone who plays the fiddle (it was my first instrument, prior to the bass), I doubt you'll find a compact, portable amp that will do both equally well that doesn't cost money. You're asking for something that will do the job at both extremes and for it to be battery powered. A big ask and I doubt such a thing exists. Perhaps a powered PA speaker might work, but battery powered? I doubt it. If you get a power bank, you can run a regular amp or PA speaker off it, which will widen your choice. Either way, I don't think you'll find a quality solution that's cheap.

Andrew Bodnar RIP, great player -
It doesn't matter. I play both 8 and 12 string basses fingerstyle. It's just about getting the angle of your plucking fingers right for what you want to achieve. So, if you only want to play the octave strings that can be done and the other way round. It's all just a different form of control. Stereotypically, the octave strings are above the fundamental. So, unless you want to get a new nut made, that's probably where you're going to be. I know Rickenbacker did an 8 string for Chris Squire and John Entwistle and the octave strings were below which is somewhat curious. Had you been at the recent SE Bash, you could have played my 8 or 12 and seen if you like the concept as a whole.

What new gear should be produced?
Steve Browning replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Mesa 1x15 combo, with a valve pre and the D350 power stage. Also add the Walkabout radiator. -
Absolutely Piers, the way the bassline comes in on natural mystic is so good, when the film first came out miss reggae wanted to see it, but i wasn’t too bothered thinking it wouldn’t be very good, but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it, very well produced and lots of attention to details
