  4. I've been gtting into the dangerous territory of keyboards (dangerous for the wallet!), speciafically Stage Pianos and I'm looking for recommendation in the <£2k sort of price rage (new or second hand). The things I want: Good sounding Piano, EP, Organ (ideally with drawbars), and synth would be a bonus but not essential. 73 Keys (semi-weighted), good keybed. 'Hands-on' design for the controls (for live use without menu diving). Relatively light/portable. Tough/reliable for live gigs and moving around: Gigs every couple of weeks, rehearsals each week, set up at home in-between. Decent professional level type connections and power supply (including a tough IEC type power cable rather than barrel would be ideal). Budget: £2k I've owned a Yamaha CK 61 for 18 months and it has has had a decent amount of use - both at home and for gigs, it shows me this isn't just a flash in the pan or quick impulsive decision for something that'll gather dust. The CK 61 is good start for a decent enough Stage Piano but I'm starting to feel it is lacking in a couple of areas: Mostly as I'd prefer an extra Octave (especially for split points) and it is starting to feel a bit on the budget end of being a professional instrument e.g. things like a barrel power connector are not as roadworthy as I'd like, the keybed is just 'okay' and the keys are slightly smaller than standard, and as I get more into playing I think I'd start noticing an upgrade being worthwhile and noticable for playability, sounds, robustness. Any recommendations? That £2k sort of price seems to be the level that most manufacturers have their entry-level of professional stage pianos: Nord Electro 6D 73 (this is my front-runner) Yamaha CP 73 Viscount Legend 73 Korg SV2 Roland Fantom 07 .....or second hand could get to things like a Nord Stage 2. Or is this just me wanting new stuff?! A: Yes! ...but I think something like a Nord Electro 6D 73 would be quite a significant upgrade to the CK 61 in terms of feel, sounds, robustness. My 'buy stuff justification' maths says: £1,920 for the Nord Electro 6D 73. (or about £1,500 with part-ex for my CK-61, and I do also have a MPC Key 37 that could potentially get sold/part-ex for about £500, but I thik of that as a different thing I'd like to keep - as it's more for home production, sampling, sequencing and synth sort of stuff). After 10 years (about the time that updating a Nord seems worthwhile) it'd still be worth about £1k (given that the asking priice for an Electro 4 from 2015 is about £1k). So that'd cost me less than £100 per year (or £50 per year if you include the CK-61 being sold...or free if I also sell the MPC!). Who can argue with that?! (I'll give you a clue: I'm married to her!). In a word that is increasingly asking for subscriptions/pay monthly and throwaway stuff/things with planned obsolescence I do find that my 'buy stuff justification' for musical instruments a wonderful thing!
  5. Great basses. This one looks really cool too. GLWTS.
  6. I've had one fitted by a great local tech and its been good, definitely does what you'd expect - takes a bit of fine tuning to get it to work without bending the notes sharp however. Sometimes comes a little loose, its a weird design, but always having a screw driver in the bass bag allows for quick adjustments.
  7. Hi all, Unfortunately, an unexpected bill has come in, which means that this excellent Fuzz/Filter from CMC Audio (who make the Proto Type overdrive) has to go. I bought it a little while ago, and honestly, while it’s excellent, it’s also the most valuable of the many fuzzes I have, so needs-must. More info from CMC here: https://cmcaudio.odoo.com/shop/bi-filter-fuzz-33 I made a video of one particular sound I liked below, but there’s more videos on their Instagram and on YouTube which shows it doing straight Fuzz tones, as well as synthy, envelope filter tones too. You can attach an expression pedal, and a holding down the footswitch means it works as a momentary switch (until you take your foot off of course), a short press and release obviously still allows a latching function. No box, but it’s as-new other than Velcro on bottom and will be packed very securely. I’m open to part-ex’s (what u got?), but need at least £100 cash. These are circa £230 new + plus delivery from Belgium + VAT. BFF.mov Cheers Si

  8. I did this - stuck the components (mine is just a single USB output) in a bit of plastic tube then cable tied under my pedal board. Pretty no, cheap and works, yes.
  9. 2 nice Fenders in last 2 posts. I do like a sunburst Fender especially a Jazz. Dave
  10. When I bought my Epiphone Les Paul bass for the first time, it came with a Neotech Mega strap. Accidentally found my favourite type of strap. That was handy!
  11. July 1982, Capital Radio Jazz Festival, Knebworth, A highlight among some exceptional artists. Thanks for the music and memories Jimmy.
  12. I found this fascinating - full of insight into The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, his approach to bass, his character.
  13. Nicely done Rosie. That's so much better than having eBait deliver instant gratification.
  14. I bought this a couple of years back and did it up. It was professionally set up and restrung but I am just not using it. We were playing 80s alternative songs on folk instruments BUT I quickly got sick of taking several instruments to gigs and seem to have settled on using less. I added the fitted case, bought brand new from Gear 4 Music. The action is pretty decent and these are loads of fun / easy to play. I have it strung G-D-A-E but you can tune it C-G-D-A or like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Happy to meet Swindon - Newbury way which can be discussed via DM. Thanks for looking.

  15. This came up on another forum, and the advice from several experienced electrical engineers was that a better and more permanent contact between the screw terminal and the wire conductor was achieved if you did not tin the wires, because the copper strands can compress and essentially cold weld to the terminal under the pressure from the screw.

  18. I did that once with The Skids song Into the Valley where i had to de-tune the E to D for that song and forgot to tune it back up again. Played the next song like that and no-one even noticed. Same song, different night, i had it in my head that i de-tuned to Eb rather than D and once again no-one but me noticed. Just goes to show if you play with absolute confidence everyone will thing you're right. Even when wrong. 😂 Dave
  19. I wish they did these with the Wimbish neck profile - I'd have had one already - to go with my own Sandberg superlight! Crazy idea - is it worth asking Shuker or someone for a quote to reprofile the neck?

  21. There’s plenty on here and elsewhere about how good these things are. I’m a bit gutted at moving it on truth be told, but my left shoulder has recently become a lot more knackered than it was and I’m finding shorties a lot easier and more comfortable to play. As a result this just isn’t getting used of late and that’s unlikely to change unfortunately. Ive had it a couple of years (picked it up via BC) and it’s only had occasional rehearsal room use so it’s in great nick. I’ve switched the knobs out as these look cooler, but the originals are in the case and will be supplied too. Comes in a Gator case that’s both perfectly functional and necessary! Think the RRP for these is at nearly £700 now and the cases an extra ton. Moving it on at the price I paid (as I remember) in the spirit of BC. Not looking for trades on this though. I haven’t got a box to accommodate this and wouldn’t really want to post anyway I’m afraid so will have to limit to collection or fairly local meet-up for now. I’m located just by j7 of the M6. Cheers.
