American Professional II Jazz - V-Mod II pickup output query...
Lozz196 replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I experienced similar with a Pro V1 Jazz, compared to my US Standard Precision it was much quieter. Still sounded good though. -
Honestly, it's incredible. I'm a happy lad! I'll get a clip up soon, but in the meantime here's another pic. I've seen that some have red cases, but when you do the serial lookup it says they're orange. Very odd. Does your case have a Fender badge on the front? Like you I'm traditionally a P guy, but it just doesn't work for the later Eagles stuff. I'd love to swap between the two but because the guitar lads have so many changes - apparently of more importance 🙄 😃 - I'm covering a lot of the between-song chat and don't have time to do any changes myself. Luckily the neck pickup on this is so defined and growly it gets me in the ballpark (although you & I both know there's nothing like a P!).

Take the 22nd fret out and smash it into the missing 9th fret slot. Problem solved. Well, that problem anyway!

We always slow down on bookings in the winter as we're more of a fair, festival band. I've got nothing until next month. Daryl

Mysterious Traveller by Weather Report. Obviously Jaco was a genius but I prefer everything about the way Alphonso Johnson played and his work on this album is sublime.

I would say It's a modification not a repair, same as swapping the pickups to get a different sound. The aim of the challenge it to play what you already have, so definitely a T1 fail. Buying a bass for a new project would be too. But the challenge is only to make you stop and think, it's not a religion 🙃

It's an interesting one, isn't it? My meanie side instantly thought "fail on all tiers". It's not a repair (as in it's not faulty just because it has frets when you don't want it to have them), it's a modification. It would only be OK if you simply yanked the frets out, but I presume the holes where the frets used to be will be filled with something? That's where it breaks down - those line markers weren't there before. But then I thought on the other hand, you are preventing the purchasing of a fretless bass (or neck) by modifying an existing bass, and strips of wood aren't in the signal chain. I guess my question would be - do you need a fretless for a project or band, or are you just bored? Intent is important.

Probably The Clash's London Calling. The bass sound of Guns Of Brixton is worth the price of entry alone.

I'm not sure. I put @Woody1957 in touch with the seller and that was the last I heard. I can send you the seller's details if you want.

Agreed. I always loved the original V-Mod pickups in my previous American Professional V.1 Precision with their mix of Alnico 2 & 5 magnets. I'm thinking of dropping in to get my Tech to test them on Monday to see if anything is actually wrong with it. It's a barely used bass that was bought new by a guitarist and never really played much or taken outside his house, so I'm assuming it's got no gremlins as such.

Not my favourite band or album but Jamiroquai's Emergency on Planet Earth' has consistently sublime basslines from start to finish, most of them up front and centre in the mix.
