  2. You need to state a price @sambecker1 otherwise a mod will be along to close the ad! Rules are you have to state a price. 👍
  3. Aye, and I think you described it well already. Taking "talent" to mean "ability", in the midst of many factors, to me it seems like one of the lesser ones. I've said it before, but I got some upmarket gigs not because of my abilities but because I was deemed "available and dependable".
  4. I love the almost (?) parallel neck/fingerboard. Reminds me of the Aria SB1000. I wish more basses were like this. GLWTS
  5. Dear Basschatters, Here I have a Herb Gastelum 1988 precision 44mm bass neck with original tuners and hootenanny button. I have had it looked at recently by a local luthier who has told me that it would need a new fretboard to be in functioning condition. He showed me a scan of the neck and there is a ramp at the heel. The fretboard is quite thin and the frets, although in brilliant condition, are quite short frets to begin with. So the only way of having the neck in working condition would be to get a new freboard and to have the neck wood sanded to level it out. There is also an amount of lacquer missing on the back evenly across the neck where it looks as though someone has taken the lacquer off to identify a place on the fingerboard or has had the neck resting against an amp in the same place or something like that. It's perfectly comfortable but someone may want to sort the finish out. I have a couple of Herb G necks and they are absolutely fantastic so I know if someone wanted to take the project on that it would be well worth it to restore the neck. As it happens I have no idea what it's currently worth but I would love for it to go to someone who likes a project as I have too many basses to be working on currently. Please feel free to send me any offers or questions! Best wishes, Sam
  6. 2006 Squire Vintage Modified Precision Bass in Olympic White for sale - with some modifications to dress it up like a 70s P bass. I will include the Thomann gig bag with the sale. I have always wanted a 70s P, but as a mainly 5 string player I knew I wouldn't use it that much so I didn't want to commit too much cash to one. So, I found a Squire VM P bass in Olympic white which had a few dings online and then proceeded to create my own. Personally I think it looks great and it saddens me to sell it but I could do with a little cash injection right now. So, the main change is the headstock. The squire details were removed and sanded flat, some discolouration added to age the wood, a 70s decal added and then a vintage amber Nitro lacquer from NorthWest Guitars. I have flatted it back and flatted off the sheen from the back of the neck so it's nice and smooth. Aged string retainer and neck F plate was added (I always intended to add aged tuners and bridge but never got round to it.) Body - it had a few dinks here and there which have been added to (nothing major to be honest) and the bass still has the Seymore Duncan designed pickups, original bridge and tuners. The olympic white has aged and yellowed really nicely and the rosewood board is nice and dark. I know this won't be to everyone's taste but if you fancy a 70s P and don't fancy the price of one, this could be for you! I have included a picture of the original squire serial number for information. Not sure what else to add about the bass. It plays great and sounds just like a P should. The previous owner changed the wiring to cloth wiring and added an orange drop cap to the tone control. Any trial is welcome and I have packaging to post. Will look at quotes and would be happy to share the postage costs.

  7. Moog Minitaur Bass Synth Module This is the up to date v 2.2 edition, comes complete with box, PSU and manuals. Lovely two oscillator synth specifically voiced for bass but can produce lead sounds too. The ladder filter is classic Moog with weight and width to the oscillators. It is a US made synth - Moog has since changed ownership and now mainly manufactured in the far east. The Minitaur is well constructed in a pressed steel case with nice positive action on all buttons and knobs. It is based on the classic Moog Taurus bass pedals of the 70’s as used by Rush, Genesis, Yes and more. All works as it ought to with plenty of control via the front panel, also presets and the ability to hook up to a computer and fine tweak sounds via free Moog software. The module is in excellent condition albeit with some cosmetic ‘rack rash’ on the sides of the unit. UK only, I’d prefer pick up in person but can post at buyer’s expense.
  8. The main talent needed is entertaining an audience. Its entirely possible to be musically amazing but boring to an audience
  9. I had a 6 string Lightwave fretless for all of about 4 days before I traded it for a 9 string fretted ACG with @7string about 400 years ago... I'm not a fretless player, but I remember thinking it was an excellent bass and tempted for a few scary moments about keeping it! T'were it a fretted, it may have remained with me as the ACG has. This is a very good price for an excellent and quite unique thing!
  10. Given the nature of the Bird... I'd prefer collection/Delivery but well packaged and very insured postage is possible. This one has been my gateway drug, and before i knew it i've bought myself an old single pickup model. It's in mint condition, and comes with a great padded gigbag. Pretty light at 3.8 kg, and personally I haven't had an issue with neck dive as these sometimes suffer from. These are proper neck-through models like the originals. As always please hit me up with questions/photo requests! .

  11. These are excellent cases, I have two of them and they fit my basses well, are tough and have handles/straps in all the the right places.
  12. Dear Basschatters, I have a P bass body, along with original pots, neckplate (and bolts) and knobs, pickup screws (they look old but I'm aware they're just a bonus!), strap and bass case that I believe to be from a 1977 Fender Precision bass. I have some pickups too but they don't have any serial numbers or markings so I am not sure they are from the same bass. I am looking to sell the body and parts but I'd love to know if anyone can help identify the body especially. The pots are from 1977 and the body looks to be from then too but any help would be hugely appreciated. And any estimates on a price for it (as a package with everything or stand alone) would be hugey appreciated! Best wishes, Sam
  13. Over the last 3 years my band have done 4 charity gigs. They are all local, either at established venues or somewhere where to PA will be provided by the organisers. Therefore the amount of effort required on our part other than playing is minimal. We have also been able to sell some band merch which normally goes to offset any travelling expenses we might have incurred. We've played Oxjam Beeston three times now and the first two times we were definitely playing to an audience that had mostly never seen us before, and several of those have come to see us play at subsequent gigs. Having said that, the last time we played there was a good chance that the number of people in the audience who had specifically come to see us outnumbered those that just happened to be at the venue already. At Oxjam we get given wristbands that gets into all the other gigs for free, and overall the organisation is excellent so it's a joy to be able to take part. The other charity gig we have done recently was probably one of the best paying gigs we did that year. Again excellent organisation at an impressive venue where we were fed and watered and had proper back-stage facilities including a kitchen and a bathroom with a shower. Apparently these were for all the performers but we appeared to be the only band that wanted to make use of them. So long as we are doing gigs of this caliber we will be happy to play Charity events. Just remembered that Leeds Goth City Festival is technically also a charity event, but again it's well organised and all the bands are paid an amount that at minimum covers their expenses, and the organisers still manage to raise a significant amount of money for the charities they support.
  14. Lovely, assuming it is passive VVT ?
  15. I use all my strings. And yes, I do very often use the G string too. I am a very melodically founded bass player, that seldom just do root notes unison with the guitar.
  16. Another one with Mark Egan. This one is from the American Garage album. Pat Metheny Group - Airstream
  17. More Basses with purple sparkle/flake paint jobs.
  18. For sale is this MM style 4-conductor pickup that came out of a DiMavery MM-501 bass. Not sure who makes them but I think it's a ceramic magnet. It sounded fine in the bass but I wanted to put an AlNiCo pickup in the bass. £20 posted to UK mainland. Here are the pics:
  19. I know it's probably not a popular opinion, but IME talent is probably the least import thing. So long as you don't mess up too obviously too often you'll be fine, and besides until you are totally without ability, you'll make less mistakes as you get more experienced. The other things are much harder to improve should they be lacking. I've managed to be a lot less obnoxious as a band member than I was in the 80s and 90s but it has taken 25 years of concentrated effort to achieve a more "chill" persona and being being in bands where I haven't been responsible for almost every aspect of the organisation has most definitely helped.
  20. The problem with the Bass Dept. at Andertons (and many other stores) is that they often have nobody to set up the basses, so you end up playing on grotty strings that have been played by all sorts of little Herberts who never wash their hands before playing, and actions created by speedy mass production which leave the strings three nautical miles off the fingerboard. If I go to Andertons, I usually stick some Alun Keys in my back pocket and do a mini setup on the bass I'm trying. That way I can at least feel if it's something like what I'm looking for. Obviously a bass is never going to sound how you want/expect until you get your favourite strings on it and get it set up to your own preferences, but I'm sure they don't mind carefully done small adjustments that make the bass more playable and therefore more saleable even if you don't end up buying it. As for what I'd like to see, I guess I'd like to see more aftermarket Graphite necks on the market, but hopefully Kiwi has that corner of the market covered now with Aurok Composites.

  22. @GBH I can confirm they are indeed 8 ohm each
  23. Here we have my DBX DriveRack PX professional loudspeaker management processor with matching DBX reference microphone for sale. I am the second owner, and this has lived in a flightcase all its life alongside my mixing console. Condition is used, although the reference mic was new this year (2025) has never been used in anger. A great tool for those of us who mix live sound from stage side whilst playing. I’m only selling as I have now upgraded my bass bins to a matching pair to my tops so will be using the internal crossovers to cut down on the weight of gear I shlep to gigs. Because I am inherently lazy, I asked ChatGPT to describe the functionality and this is what it came up with, which sounds accurate to me based on my experience. “The DBX DriveRack PX is a professional loudspeaker management system that optimises live sound systems. It combines automatic room tuning, crossover control, EQ, dynamics, and feedback suppression in one rack-mount unit. Using the included DBXRTA-M measurement microphone, you can run auto-EQ and real-time analysis to tailor your speakers and subs for smooth, balanced frequency response in any venue. Other key features include configurable crossovers, delay alignment, compression/limiting, and feedback elimination, making it ideal for PA systems, bands, DJs, and event sound setups.” I’m looking for £300 for the DriveRack and reference mic, or £250 for the DriveRack and £50 for the microphone. Collection from Killingworth Newcastle upon Tyne, or delivery at the buyers cost and risk. Any questions, please ask!
