How do they rate in power compared to other amps ? The PF500 was underpowered and the PF800 was about as loud as a 500w amp ! If they are true and loud to their ratings I would be tempted to get the V3 if it’s loud enough into 4ohms for loud rock I use a MarkBass LM IV at present

Ill have to check mine tonight. Mine is a 1998 4003 model

Good man! Great video too, love the Richie’s band.

Dammit getting all nostalgic and bought a Tribute sunburst Jazz... And the video that did it for me...

It does currently appear to be difficult to get gigs as a jazz quartet, except at certain specialist venues (usually in Oxford) and then there's a long waiting list to get in. Where other pubs might want jazz it's usually only as background music during meals etc. and telling them we play this sort of thing (apologies, don't have a good recording of our interpretation) puts them off. Outside Oxford the pubs do indeed seem to prefer duos. I have noticed a particular local duo being booked for "jazz matinees" etc. in local pubs even though they are really folk-type performers.

Lots of love for Marc and his bass kit, shame that we can't get hold of it any longer

I've gone through a few phases over the years. I used to go for a very mids-heavy sound and quite heavy-handed technique to try and cut through in a band with two guitarists with Dual Rectifiers. It sounded decent, but a bit boxy and it peaked out a lot. Then I decided to go back and re-engineer everything and try and get something closer to the Tony Levin sound, with my own twist. So I started using a moderate amount of compression (I used to avoid it if possible), scooped out everything around 800Hz and started playing with a much lighter touch to "play" the compressor, so the bottom end bloomed out more, but still kept definition in the high mids and treble so the sound cuts through. A bit more mids, and a little wash of DG-style distortion gets added for when the guitarist goes off to solo to fill things out a bit. I'm also not averse to a bit of delay/reverb, and love me a bit of ambient/shimmer reverb. It took a while to get to this point though, lots of experimentation with playing style, basses, effects, gain staging and so on. It's the sort of thing that only really comes with time and lots of listening.

Bass Direct started following G&L in trouble...? , A lost art. Trace elliot and Ampeg Venture - experiences?
-
Lots of love for Trace Elliot here, its a shame the new offerings didn't have more of a nod back to the old times with the graphic, glowing green lights etc etc
-
We've sold quite a few of these now and people are really impressed! A great, versatile amp

R.I.P G&L, sad times indeed!

How do you change a thumbnail on a for sale ad?
Woodinblack replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
I know, that is what I meant - it uses the first picture you upload, there is no mechanism to change that after the fact. As far as I can see it would have to be manually edited to work, but I have never done it or looked at what needs to be done, I would imagine that in some way it would be a faff. -
Here's a nice jazz example - makes a change from the many notes we usually have to play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5bq_vRMskM&list=RDj5bq_vRMskM&start_radio=1 There's a faster version with violins &c. which is better known, but I think I prefer the one above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER8Q504Vro8&list=RDER8Q504Vro8&start_radio=1&pp=oAcB

Oh I see, I thought it was a normal-ish bridge at the end of the fingerboard. Very cool.

How do you change a thumbnail on a for sale ad?
binky_bass replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
Even with having removed that picture, it still remained... Is this then a question of closing down the ad and starting all over again to then upload the one you want displayed as a thumbnail first? Is there no ability that could be built in to allow for a user to change the thumbnail? Or does a mod have the to do it? -
BassApprentice started following Sire Marcus Miller M6 Headless

It could just be the online pictures, but the monorail bridge looks like it sticks out a long way. Far more obviously than alternatives like the EHB

Move the bridge, which is embedded in the full-length fingerboard, and lose a little off the headstock end.

Bought a couple of months ago from BC stalwart @Sibob, this is absurdly cool (hope it's OK to pinch your advert pic, Si?). However, despite being much lighter than your average late 70s P at 8.87 pounds, its unfortunately still not light enough for my damaged back and neck (back story: horse riding accident, 18 cracked ribs front and back in 2023). Carrying it to and from a 2 hour rehearsal last week resulted in significant pain over the next 24 hours and this made the decision for me. So its collect from a public space in Barnes SW13 or delivery at cost. Asking what I paid, £2200, which I think was a fair price. More details and pics in Si's advert below. It's in the same condition and comes with a padded Fender gig bag. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/514522-1978-precision-olympic-white-maple-lightweight-sold/

That's my thinking. Are the regular bass presets available for free on Tonex website... which you could load into a regular 'guitar' pedal.

That explains why the ToneX Bass is a full £100 more than the standard ToneX! Rediculous really
