I bought the bass from Vintage & Rare. They advertised it as a ‘94. When I got the info on the bass from Musicman it stated that it began life as a fretted bass. Obviously someone had swapped the neck. I contacted V&R and they offered to take the bass back. I said I loved the bass just as it was and I was just letting them know what I had found out. They very graciously gave me a healthy amount of refund. I was a happy camper!

I'll be playing my final 'From Gold To Rio' dep of 2025 with this fabulous Spandau/Duran tribute show at the Wilde Theatre at Bracknell South Hill Park Arts Centre on Sat 11th October. Gonna be a great night with some wicked basslines https://www.southhillpark.org.uk/shp-events/from-gold-to-rio-the-greatest-hits-of-spandau-ballet-duran-duran/

The "what then" is not very comforting. It's one of the risks of owning such products.

Another preamp from Master Effects in good ol Canada - 4 business days for delivery from shipping and no custom charges or fees at all! This is based on the GK RB800 and I think it’s a keeper, although I have said this many times before 😁 Also a NBD for me too! BBP35 fitted with Nordstrands came this morning 🔥 so a gratuitous shot of that is needed too I think! I’m about to go down to the shed and have a right old afternoon of it! Haha

I love ‘em for this.

The problem for G&L is they don't have mass appeal, but they are not seen as 'boutique' and therefore don't attract premium prices.

How’s your back and how many people were required to stack the combo? I assume many vertebrae were compressed in making this pic! Bet it sounds good!

That's an interesting question. If the small boutique builder insists on using custom components, your'e up you know what without a paddle. I'm pretty sure Vanderkley didn't use custom drivers, however, and crossover parts are easily obtainable. Anyone needing to replace a component should first open the box up to identify the faulty part. I'm guessing the tweeter is a bog standard P.Audio unit, which is available from many sources for not much money. Assuming Vanderkley hasn't removed the label, it should be easily identifiable.

Regarding fret slotting, I've used a simple box I made out of offcuts for pretty much all my builds - the first one I just marked out with a fine pencil and a square and cut by hand - worked a treat!

If you shop around a bit you should be able to find the radial ProDi or a stagebug SB2 secondhand, that's what I did, managed to get a pro and 2 stagebugs used for the well under price of a new JDi (i think about £50 each?) the build of another pedalboard means i'm on the lookout for another SB2 as well Matt

The Bass 400 was the same. As I have said in the past, I actually gave up (shortly after getting it) and reverted to a pair of Orange 120s (I was using a pair of Diesel 2x15s at the time) until I pulled myself together and persevered. It was well worth it!!

I feel this needs further explanation.....i.e. why? I'm getting visions of someone making a model to practice their next bank job...🤣

They should try putting out a line of headless basses. It's worked for Ibanez and Cort, and Dingwall are jumping on the bandwagon.

Like me - it's not so much the basses in and of themselves, it's more that I feel like a complete twit when playing one. Appreciate that it's a me problem, not the bass's fault - but I get around it by not playing headless basses. Anyway, this thread is going off the rails in a classic BC kinda way. So how about G&L and their alleged woes, eh?

Probably, and a different fretboard.

Part 2 of my mini-series is here! This time, it’s Pip Millett’s soulful take on the Otis Redding classic, "Try a Little Tenderness". Pip Millett - Try a little tenderness | Lester Duval

That’s cool, always nice to know a bit about the journey 👍 The acoustic tone is stunning, I often play it unplugged on the couch. It’s not looking like I’ll master fretless playing anytime soon, so this bass fits nicely in the fun to own category as it just seems way too good to pass on.
