…Just an update about the fan replacement .. While new fan is sort of quieter on other hands it’s internal parts (bearing system etc) emit different sound when spinning.. Simply said while it is about 5 decibels quieter (used some iphone app to measure db levels before & after) at the end i now can hear more of it’s bearing noise (higher pitch) then the airflow noise if it makes sense. Good experiment but to be honest not really worth taking the outcome into consideration.. So unless the fan is indeed either about to fail or whinging then no point replacing it unless you like to tinker with the stuff.. Btw, the RS Component fan is actually Orion fan..

A rare opportunity to acquire this beautiful bass in good, almost unplayed condition. I purchased it privately in mid 70's, intending to play it in a rock band but moved to folk music and what with one thing and another it has sat unused ever since. Genuine Ricky double truss rod. Some dings from being bumped and a bit of crazing of the varnish on the body due to age. Minimal wear on the frets. Photos taken September 2025. Comes with a basic custom made hard case and I can throw in a RokSac. Prefer to transact in public space, cash payment, will check notes with counterfeit money checker. If buyer needs delivery then it will be at cost, non refundable. Sorry but I've been scammed once and now am more cautious.

I have and use several different ACS plugs and IEMs - I have a custom set for sleeping, and those can sometimes result in me waking up in the night due to one of them causing the ear to hurt. I do think it's probably the nature of shoving relatively inflexible things into your ears that they'll start to ache after a while, as the plugs aren't going to move as much or will move differently to your ears over time. I second the comfort cream recommendation; the only downside for me is the ACS stuff is so expensive. There was a product called 'Auragel' which was perfect, but it seems the company that manufactured it went bust so it's no longer available. On alternative I had recommended to me is Otoferm, but I absolutely hate the smell of it, and it has triggered something like the eczema @MacDaddy mentions above. I'm in the process of trying alternatives still so will report back if I find anything that works.

Help with buzz from Tonerider pickup on Ibanez SRMD200 bass
Obrienp replied to Brim Taika's topic in Bass Guitars
My experience with the two band EQ Ibby preamp is that it is horrible! Far too aggressive and it will amp up any single coil buzz. Shielding always helps with jazz pickups but I reckon it is worth spending about £100 on a Glockenlang two band replacement. It is much more civilised, transparent, has a passive mode, is pre-wired and is pretty well a drop in replacement for the Ibby OEM junk. Otherwise go passive but by the time you have bought 4 decent pots, caps, etc and paid to have them wired up, you will be well on your way to the price of a Glockenlang preamp. Other two band replacement preamps are available of course. -

I've sometimes had an issue when using plugs pushes earwax onto the eardrum and it hurts like hell. Try a couple of drops of olive oil into your ear overnight for 5 days and if that doesn't sort it go and get your ears syringed.

I have used a capo from time to time on a 5 string. The only downside is the thickness of strings, you’ll need a capo with a strong spring, probably not a Shubb.

It may be worth getting your ears checked for eczema. Even if you've never had it, it can occur in later life and in the ear canal.

Bought this from TomJbass on here just last month and although it's a stellar jazz it's just that tad heavy for me - it's just over 9.5lbs (i played an 11lbs jazz for 17 years) ever since i fell of my bike and did my shoulder, though it's well balanced, after 2 hours it's starting to pull on my upper back - seems to have got worse with age. So sadly going to let some younger buck or doe(?) have the pleasure - that's the bad for me here's the good. Apart from looking absolutely stunning...What a neck! well done Mr Clayton on your custom shape - so ergonomic, and the gloss feels like glass - played a very sweaty gig on Saturday and a very wet festival the week before and had zero issues with sticking. Glides - frets are great too - dont feel a thing. BUT by far the best thing are these 60s custom shop pickups - noiseless and full of oomph - with a nordy mute and just the neck pup, it's Jamerson central - the bridge is more quiet, but is crystal, i did make the bridge pup a bit further from the strings to fit my taste as was too barky for me as was, you could raise for more bite. Together though neck full and bridge 60% is by far the best sounding and feeling jazz i've had. Pictured here with tort pick, comes with original antique white pearl guard. Strap locks and gotoh butterbean tuners (original not with original purchase) - There is one small ding (pictured) but has been looked after since new by tom. Have done set up, oiled neck and strung with D'Addario flats with great low action. No buzzes just great articulate notes. All case candy too. If this was 8lbs it would be the one for me - the plan is to copy as much as poss on my lighter jazz (pups, tuners, etc) also have another lighter bass inbound - so grab a bargain - just seen Fender have put these up again to £2539! Price inc postage to UK only - comes in case. Can knock off a few quid for pic up. Feel free if you want to come to Clitheroe to have a bash. Can be heard on several videos from this guy from Saturday

I tried that bass-spinning lark but as soon as the bass passed through the reversed position and the strings touched/brushed my fingers/hand that killed the notes of course. I thought it might be a matter of technique but if that's the case then I haven't found which method is reliably successful. Spinning end-over-end doesn't work at all. I know that now.

This is a 2012 Squier CV jazz in Olympic white. Generally good condition but with a few scuffs / blemishes, the worst of which is a small section of the poly finish that has chipped off the headstock. Absolute great playing and sounding jazz. No issues at all with its functionality. Interestingly, the rosewood board has a bit of light flame in it (picture attempted). Weight is 4.1kg. Price includes uninsured (likely Parcelforce) shipping within the UK. I have a budget soft case I can include for shipping. The bass will be well packaged. Otherwise trial / collection in Cardiff welcome. Feedback here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/192340-feedback-for-woolf/#comment-1873696
