  1. Past hour
  2. I gave up playing for about 6 years 25 years ago, I had been on the verge of "making it" in the music industry on a couple of occasions but fate had always dealt that killer blow, I sold my kit and didn't pick up a bass or guitar for years, I felt that they had let me down, or that I had let them down! I enjoyed the break, the removal of that desperation to "succeed" I was eventually tempted back into the fold with a band that again was striving to "make it" in the music industry but, to be fair we were already too old to even be considered as a new band...that still hurts because it was a bloody good band getting plenty of radio play and some bloody good gigs! But with that final acceptance that I was never going to "make it" in the music industry I have played and am still playing many of the venues my heroes played, I have played and still play some fantastic festivals, I am still playing in an original 1976 Punk band, I am enjoying playing for the fun of playing without any chance of "making it" in the music industry now!......Oh, and by the way, what exactly is the definition of "making it" in the music industry?
  3. Cheers Nik! - and everyone else who came and said 'hi'! Fab to meet so many of you who I've known of and spoken to on here over the past 18 years. Well done to all the organisers, it felt like a smaller intimate version of The London Bass Show.... highlighted by the fact there wasn't enough time to speak to everyone. A very cool hang.... well done, folks!
  4. Once did and that went but picked up these a while ago off a friend. Just thinning down all my stuff now.
  5. I just sold an MXR micro flanger to Chris and he was fantastic to deal with. Great comms, paid promptly and generally a thoroughly nice chap to sell to. No problems at all.
  6. Me too. My wife has. 6-string bass viol, which I’ve been playing for a while, but I’ve just recently received a 7-string, and am ‘in transition’. Most of my repertoire remains for six strings. Good to know there’s another viol player here!
  7. Had a fab time at the Bash today and thanks very much to @NancyJohnsonand @prowla for organising! It was great to see some longstanding Basschat friends, and to meet some new ones too! And on that point, hey @Mike Brooks - great to finally meet you in person! 👍😊 As per usual, the Basschat 'chat' was brilliant.. As was some of the gear on display... Thanks to @stevie for demoing his incredible cabs - they really are a little bit special, aren't they... 😁 And thanks also to @police squad for allowing me to check out his Harry White Ricky 4003, which was very cool indeed. 👍 Perhaps the most amazing thing for me though was hearing and watching Andy, aka @Wolverinebass play his 8-string and 12- string basses - they're so, so different and Andy's playing style is so innovative.. 👏👏 Not that I needed another bass, but somehow, an Ibanez Roadster bass, in need of some TLC, found it's way into my car for the journey home.. I'm looking forward to spending a bit of time with that.. Cheers, Paul! 🙏 Anyway, as said, a great event and here's to next year! 😎
  8. Brill, thanks both that’s very much appreciated!
  9. I bought Nick's copy of 'Standing in the shadows of Motown' and he was a pleasure to deal with - good comms and quick postage. TOP Basschattist!
  10. I have never grown to virtuoso bass. I appreciate Jaco and his work, however past him and Wooten I don't find it impressive. I feel crafting a bass line around a melody and creating something that sticks through a mix and conveys the emotion of the song to be a lot more important. Which is why I hold Jamerson, Felder, East, Rainey, Louis Johnson, Benard Edwards, John Taylor etc in so high regard.
  11. Sounding great once again Daryl. Great balance between you all and bass sounds perfect. Deep with a nice click top end. Band is sounding hi-end. Exceptional playing. Love it. Dave
  12. Is that Crossroads by Cream Daryl ? Seems like a big bass rig for the size of room but i would love to play thru an SWR rig like that but i know what you mean standing in front of it. I cant hear my Mesa rig too well when standing directly in front of it. Sounds amazing 6-10ft in front tho. My Barefaced 212 cab is completely different and i can hear that quite easily standing in front or even to the side. Dave Dave
  13. Today
  14. Great little passive DI (MXR pedal sized) - ideal for the end of a bass pedalboard or any normal DI use. Has bright, normal and mellow settings for some tonal variety. Mellow is sometimes great to soften the top end of a drive sound. Price includes UK shipping.
  15. I didn't know about this company. I like the look of their stuff. I'm sorted with HPF and parametric eq at the moment (various Broughton pedals and an old, battered TC Electronic Dual Parametric Equalizer ) but good to know there's a local source if I need a new one. I have a Th500 that I used for both double and bass guitar gigs with a barefaced super midget. I now use a powered GRbass 10inch cab with a Grace Felix but took the TH out the other day when I was playing a jam session in case any bass guitarists turned up (they didn't) and it still sounded good to me. I was tempted by a used EA doubler I saw a while back but I really don't need another amp.
  16. Ah, okay... You could download and use the free player though (a serial number is supplied). You can run both versions side by side because they use separate executable files. Kontakt.exe for the full version, Kontakt Player.exe for the free version, they don’t overwrite each other:
  17. ACS seconded. I use the PRO17s, as they give the most neutral sound. It’s pretty much like turning the volume of the whole (very loud) band to a manageable level, no specific frequency bias.
  18. Just had our 29th Nov cancelled (rescheduled to next year) because the landlord is putting a large Christmas tree up on the very small stage before the end of the month. One of those situations you cant make up 😂
  19. That was a fun day out! Very enjoyable speaking by the speakers (and about the speakers!). I got to meet some great folks and play some rather nice basses.
