  2. Really interesting development, why should tech companies use other people's creativity without their permission and for free? https://mosis.eecs.utk.edu/harmonycloak.html

  4. I remember when no one used flats, back in the '80's and early '90's. At that time flatwound bass strings were something they had in the old days, like rickets and diphtheria. Definitely to be avoided. It all changed with PIno and that Voodoo album. Nowadays everybody has to have a Precision with flats on. It's become another bass playing tyranny. When I finally got some TI flats about ten years ago it was a revelation how much fun they were to play and how I could accurately emulate bass parts I'd been playing right but that didn't sound like the original. More than anything, the different attack and decay you get on flats compared to roundwounds made all the difference.

You are a genius. It is completely silent when using a USB C laptop charger but hums when using the the power supply.
  6. when we put the Glam band together in 2018 i was the only one retired. It did make it easier for me to learn songs. I guess i'm just very lucky that the band members all think the same way as myself and that practice and rehearsals are a necessity when learning new songs or when we started the band we rehearsed every week for 3hrs for first 6mths and then the next 6 mths it was for 6hrs every 2 weeks. We did that for a full year before gigging but we knew we were good at that first gig and it just made us more confident to do the showmanship that Glam needs. Currently our new guitarist of 3yrs now is also retired with one of our singers Lynn being a semi-retired nurse. There's not a big age gap between us all tho and i can see how you imagine that's a problem but to them it probably isnt and its just how they prefer to do things. Youngsters these days have a different mind set to us old guys. 😂 Dave

Yes using the power supply. I will try more options tomorrow. I really want to love it but any trace of hum is a deal breaker for me.
  9. Was this at Pirate studios 😎
  10. That was my 1st port of call. But thanks:)
  11. One of the Origin Effects Bassrigs will get you there. Maybe the Black Panel as that dirt tone is probably just the Fender amp behind him!
  12. There's your answer! The Stingray 5 is such a great five string imo. You cant go wrong with one. (My 1994 blueburst is not for sale and posted for purely the purpose of inducing GAS)
  13. I have just ordered the 60003 set up for my 1990 Thumb Bass which has just started to make a 'static type powering up sound' for a couple of seconds after plugging the jack in. The tone module is the same as in your picture. The original spec of mine was... bass @ 100 Hz and treble @ 2.5 kHz, so I am hoping the new one to sound the same.
  14. All my basses are strung with flats, including my Jaguar which has the same pickups as a Jazz. Rounds and grounds just didn't do it for me. I'm in a bit of a musical bubble here where we all use flats, but I'm assuming from the amount of stuff for sale that the vast majority of players use rounds primarily?
  15. I'm going to fret it with some rungs from an old rusty ladder I've got in the shed...
  16. Is it poly or nitro? If it nitro, then sand and feather the edges with 600-800 grit and respray, the nitro will melt into the existing layers and you will be able to wet sand and spray until you get a flat finish. It’s similar to blending in a water slide decal on a headstock under nitro clear coat. If it’s poly, it’s much more of a nightmare as poly does not melt into the previous coats and whatever you do you are likely to get witness marks where the old and new coats overlap. I had similar where I slipped installing a tuner and scratched a headstock, it was impossible to get it to blend. I had spent ages spraying and sanding back over my logo so couldn’t face stripping and starting again so I sold the bass with money off. I vowed never to use poly instead of nitro again. If you do go blending poly route, it’s a similar process to the nitro. The area appears too large to use CA glue to fill. If Poly, I would be inclined to consider a neck plate to cover most of the obvious part of the repair. You could consider a full strip and refinish if it is a precious bass but it would need to be repainted and then clear coated due to the impossibility of stripping the poly without damaging the paint layer.
  17. Nice looking one. That's my home.

  19. Turn up late to rehearsal, lock the door and burn the place down? Well, it worked for the Saxons anyway.
  20. The airflow itself is very noisy.
  21. Did they not have a RH tuner when they made this? Looks like a lovely Jazz but the placement of the G tuner is very odd!
  22. And then you'll call me saying "I've bought another fearless one, do you want it, it's definitely not for me?"
  23. @Chienmortbb @Pow_22 Thanks for the information. With all the talk of valve tone and the thump of class A/B power amps and the heft - there, I said it 😱 - that you get from old school amp designs like this, coupled with what I think is pretty much a give away price, I'm surprised this is still hanging around. Someone somewhere mentioned that this series of amps wasn't particularly desirable but given that they doesn't suffer from the wooly sound some folks complain of with Ashdown amps I think they're an underrated gem. But as I gig almost exclusively on IEMs these days and have a light weight amp and cab for the occasional dep gig with backline, this is sadly in the way and needs to go to a new loving home.
  24. If each time you look at it you think why am I keeping a bass I won't play anymore, just sell it or trade it for that fiver Stingray, at least you'll stay in the same territory sound wise.
  25. Jim bought my MXR compressor, all done and dusted within a few hours of first contact, couldn't ask for more really! Great bloke to deal with.
