Pubs and venues to be protected from noise complaints
chris_b replied to Cliff Edge's topic in General Discussion
My bands are getting louder. I can tell, the dB number on my ACS plug filters is creeping up. A friend lived in a village near Newbury. In the 70's they had an influx of people from London. Straight away the incomers started complaining that there was no street lighting and the pavements were inadequate!! The locals hated them even more after that. The Bull's Head at Barns, a music venue since the early 60's, had the Met Police garage next door. When that was sold to a developer, the pub had several meetings where they informed the developer and counsel that they were a music venue and there was noise, and the builder should take that into account when they designed the flats. Everyone, including the builder, agreed that that would be done. Basically the developer agreed not to put a window in the wall over looking the pub. Guess what? That's exactly what the builder did. As soon as the flats were sold the owners started complaining about the noise! Under current rules the pub had no comeback, and had to spend thousands on noise insulation. -
Thanks. It’s a roasted maple neck and fingerboard.

How about contacting @KiOgon? (I do feel your pain. Last time I ordered components, opamps were of wrong footprint.)

Girls On Film - Duran Duran

Up The Junction - Squeeze

The TC Electronic BG series of combos are everywhere for super cheap. Any one would suit you and the tone print means you get to try out effects for free.

What level do you set you backing vocals compared to the lead vocals? I have seen -6dB me mentioned but I trust the collected wisdom on here more.

Likewise. Phrasing the thread like that pretty much guarantees I won't click on it. -

Having been in this position and chosen an amp, I'm glad I did. It really elevated my experience and I hope it does for you too. A little Fender Rumble, Ampeg Rocket or the new Laney Digbeth Foundry would be a big step up for not all of your budget. An 8" speaker might be ok, but a 10" one generally sounds better to my ears. Always keep a lookout for used deals too. Here, Gumtree or Facebook marketplace are worth a nose. A little MarkBass or Gallien Krueger might pop up in your price range, or any of the others I've already mentioned could be a second hand bargain.

I’m bothered by the animus in the title. It’s like (there I go now) a command or it might be a plea. There’s no emoticon to lead me in either direction if you’d phrased it as “what do you think of… “ or “constructive criticism please..” I think you would have got a more positive response -

What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.

Silky999 started following A little refinish project…

This was a little new black left handed short scale £85 Harley Benton which is going to be my 6yr old nephew’s birthday present. The only problem is his mum wants it in green and you cannot get a left handed short scale in green for less than £500 new and none second hand. Good old uncle Silky is in the process of a nitro refinish in Emerald Green. I have also levelled the frets, rolled the fretboard edges, dressed and polished (it is an £85 bass after all so what can you expect from new). It is turning out rather well!. Handy hint for a cheap painting jig……I have used an old disco lighting T bar stand with wood batten bolted to it to screw the body onto. It’s fully height adjustable and you can spin the body on its long axis by loosening the Allen bolts on the bracket. Puts the body at just the right height however tall you are.

Yeah, I feel like the Bristol one has really gone downhill. The rooms all used to have decent enough gear. A rootmaster head and a 210/410 cab, a 412 and head plus a 212 combo for the guitarists. Now you're lucky to get a 100w Orange combo and one Boss Katana combo. But wait, "we have two guitarists" I hear you say? Tough sh!t. I really don't quite understand how everything gets so broken unless people are intentionally breaking it. Like, a 412? Are people intentionally trashing that? Or was the quality insufficient for the amount of use it gets and the budget not allocated for good replacements? Or perhaps they can just get away with cheap gear so they do. We use the live room of a studio most of the time and it's so much better. No noise from other bands because there aren't any within in the building. I get an 810, both guitarists have 412s and the drum kit is decent.

To be honest, I didn’t look at the first one. If you need to come online for validation of your artistic endeavours you need to reflect on yourself. I tried to put it in the nicest way I could. -
Odd. I've always had friendly, helpful service there. Mark drove me to the station on one occasion with my purchase (which wasn't large) when I didn't take the car.
