Sky Arts ,Worlds greatest Basslines .28/11/25
Linus27 replied to martin8708's topic in General Discussion
Ive watched the first two episodes and I enjoyed the bits when they weren't focusing on Hooky and Melissa. Nothing against them but I found the small contributions from the other bass players more interesting, especially Mark King, Adam Clayton Daryl Jones. -

They're rubbish!! or maybe you just don't like them

This is a really good demonstration of exactly what rubbish is. One thing that, to one person, is no longer usable, or fit for purpose, so they are going to throw it away. The same thing, someone else would possibly be prepared to buy from them. The real question is; whether Jean-Luc has thrown it away, sold it, or put it in their spare parts box... I see this sometimes at the local council tip. Wonder why people are throwing things away that look perfectly useful. And I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for it, but you're not allowed to buy and sell things at the tip. Although I have seen people taking items off people as they're emptying their cars. So is it rubbish, or is it ready to be recycled? A lot of rubbish music seems to have been recycled by various people. -

Poll appears to have closed a day early. Shame, I was hoping for a late surge 😁 -

I had a Rumble 100 combo which I used in a modern jazz band, it was great for that. I actually sold it to the bass player who stepped in after I left the band. In October my blues band did a gig where two bands had to change over pronto at around 9pm, so we opted to share gear. I didn't know it would be a Rumble 100 combo in advance, and I was slightly concerned it wouldn't be loud enough, but it did the job with headroom to spare. Rob

Theres one of his for sale on Reverb atm which you might have seen? Looks a bit like one of those Greco GOB basses. You should have held on to that Explorer. I bet that was some machine.... https://reverb.com/uk/item/85795240-pete-back-bass-guitar-in-natural-finish-made-in-england?bk=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJqdGkiOiIxMDIzNTRiMS1hZjVkLTQ0NzItOGM1Yy1lZDc1OGFlZmUwY2EiLCJpYXQiOjE3NjQ0OTEwNzAsInVzZXJfaWQiOiIiLCJzZXNzaW9uX2lkIjoiZDNlNmRiYjItZmY1MS00YWYxLWEzMmMtYWI0N2Y0ZjU2MTNiIiwiY29va2llX2lkIjoiNzg4NzBjNzUtMzM4My00MTJkLTkxNDUtMTUxZWRmMWIyM2RkIiwicHJvZHVjdF9pZCI6Ijg1Nzk1MjQwIiwic291cmNlIjoiTk9ORSJ9.ZR9Zu1vZMXgkQj64ir4v2Afn0El_drxUwwbtJhQTZWs

Lovely that. Looks somewhat redolent of a fretless version of what the chap in ZZ Top used to play.

If your drummer has a genuinely professional attitude they will see their role as creating an enjoyable experience for the audience and adjust to the situation accordingly. The best drummers will do this. It's a hard night for the sound engineer and audience alike when musicians bring their stadium rock to the local pub.
