My last two proper bands were JoinMyBand, another one due to people who knew me for the first band, and a band I have just joined looked me up on bandmix (but I can't reply on that so I did a search for them and saw them advertising on my local facebook music scene group)

I've recently got into a new band. Had a couple of false starts getting to this band. It's all been a mix of word of mouth, social media and sites like JoinMyBand. Use them all. They all have mixed results. The only route that has never been successful for me have been jam and open mic nights.

I'm 56, I don't own a CD player. I do buy T-shirts if they look good and I can wear it in the high street or pub without looking odd, stand out or edgy. There might be mileage in producing CD like cardboard inserts with a personal userID and link to a download area containing special editions and bonus tracks not available on Spotify. People can then visit the area, sign in with their userID. Then either add that to their Spotify app as a download or burn to a CD. However, the point of having free sharable music, is that your audience grows exponentially through word of mouth and then people come to your gigs, buy t-shirts and tickets. Important now that hardly anyone listens to the Charts...

I personally love it! I've got 7 drive/fuzz pedals to list for sale now 😂 I never quite clicked with my various attempts on Helix Stomp, but loads of folk manage to put in the necessary time / have the expertise to get it sounding really good for them. Sounds like you're in that camp? If so, probably makes sense to stick with the devil you know!

The future of amps & cabs - stage props only?
Chienmortbb replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
Horses for courses, over the past three years I have seen in excess of 200 gigs in clubs and pubs and perhaps 2 in theatres. Yes, both theatre gigs were silent stage and only one club gig (Abba Tribute, where one of the members covered half the cost). The sound of one of the theatres gigs was excellent (story of Guitar Heroes), the other was so much boom and mud where we were seated that it was rubbish (Jane Macdonald, I know, but her indoors likes her, and she does suffer my choices all year). The poor gig had a rookie mistake by the sound tech in that he had the subs at either side of the wide stage. Power alley central! -
I don't have a contact number, but I can confirm the email address that was used by the organisers when they contacted me regarding the refund: [email protected]

How far have you travelled to pick up a Bass?
LewisK1975 replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I do love a road trip to pick up / trade gear. Furthest I've done is about 220 mile each-way trip, which was Bridgend, South Wales to Doncaster to pick up my 78 Precision which I still have. -

Many moons ago, I was doing some ad hoc recording with a bloke in a local studio and he had two OLP Stingrays, albeit in different finishes (natural and cream) - both were maple neck/board. Have to say, they were great players. I'm pretty certain (given Josi's ethic), the Warman MM pickup is probably more than capable. This is a freaking steal at £220.00!

Compact 9V and 12V power supply recommendation please
Chienmortbb replied to Clarky's topic in Effects
If you convert 9 to 12v, you reduce the available current pro rata. So you would need over 650mA from the 9V supply. -
albatross - corrosion of conformity

Yeah indeed - All of the Yamaha Attitude Basses I've had, whilst passive are so much louder than other passive Basses. Generally down to more windings / higher DC resistance like BB said.

Small update to the board, I've been tasked with triggering samples in-between songs, so I've put our Jamman on the board. It's a bit of a beast in both size and weight (1kg!). But, despite the claim on the back of the thing that it needs 1300mA it seems to be fine with 500mA! That means I can use the last output on my power supply and not have to work out other arrangements. 🥳 It's a bit of a pain to get to though. Toppers have been added to help me identify play and stop as I got a little confused under stage lights and the white text disappeared. Really, I'd like a Boss RC-5, switch the samples via midi from my GX-100 and just use the foot switch as an on/off pedal. Alas, funds do not allow!
