  3. I've owned three Tribute JB-2 basses and preferred any and all of them to the JB jazz bass model which came along later (and also owned, pictured with the sonic blue JB2) I've owned the blue, pink and sunburst finished models and my favourite was the sonic blue with carribean rosewood fretboard. Used that as my main bass for close on a year and gigged it with my band at the time. Great neck, no frills passive jazz in a non offset body with really good sounding pickups. The alnico pickups in these basses get a lot of love and rightly so. Really strong sounding and articulate. You can't go wrong with them. The pink one I got had some shielding issues and the fretwork wasn't as good as the other two but was fine after somentime was spent putting it right. I also had a USA JB2 which was a fantastic instrument in every respect.
  4. A fret rocker doesn't do the same job as a fret kisser. They look similar, however the fret kisser has a recessed diamond file in the centre of each edge.
  5. I think the only things I've bought this year have been a pair of 15" speakers for my old Sunn cab. They sound cool and shift some serious air, so I guess they're my winner.
  6. Usually four string sets are labelled I to IV in Roman numerals, with O for Orchestra or S for solo on the other side of the ball. But I've never had a low B or high C, those might be labelled differently.
  7. That’s great man, I really enjoyed hearing the new vibes 😊
  8. Worst was a brand new Gibson NR Thunderbird. Stunning to look at, and probably the best sounding 'bird I've ever played, but that neck shape... nope. Felt totally wrong. Back to the shop it went. Best is this, because it's absolutely amazing.
  9. Well, back to normal, except for this being a multi track track, and in stereo, which is something entirely new and different from the norm in the context of my contributions to this competition. Also thank you!
  10. Cheers! Yeah, if I were still gigging regularly, I'd be clinging on to this amp. But I'll be keeping my Little B*ast*rd 30 for recording - probably my joint favourite with the CTM-100! - so I can't really justify keeping both of them.
  11. I've been thinking about this example today - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/227002618439 I don't know much about Trace Elliot amps other than I have had a long-held ambition for a big Marshall cabinet in my practice space and this has morphed to a big TE cabinet in my practice space. i.e. I buy it, get some friends to help manoeuvre it into place then it stays there until we move house. My partner's a drummer and has recently got into electronic drum pads, so the plan would be to use it for that as well. It's not really in need of restoration - the fabric's a bit scuffed on the top, but otherwise it looks quite tidy.
  12. Perfect for the start of "Blockbuster"

  14. I know a couple of years ago when I was looking at acoustics in Glasgow, GuitarGuitar were just a little more engaging and able to chat about what I was looking for in a helpful way than the other shops with new guitars were, and I like that they have some used guitars too. I ended up with a used 2020 Gibson G45, not an option that was originally on my shortlist, but playing it in person next to to others I just liked it.
  15. I have an old, surplus-to-requirement, 15" McKenzie speaker. I'm guessing it's from the 1980's or early 1990's, and it's rated at 200w and of 8ohms impedance. The chassis is cast alloy. It will be posted in a proper speaker carton, but if you want to collect I'll knock off the price of the postage and include a cup of tea. £40 posted. Thanks, Jackroadkill
  16. Just bought a preamp from Ian. super easy to deal with, fantastic price, excellent packing and a very speedy dispatch/delivery. thanks so much Ian
  17. They sound like a bunch of arseholes and you are better off out of it !!, good luck with the new band John 😎
  18. So, @HeadlessBassist, what are your thoughts now?
  19. A lot gets said on TalkBS, folk wearing Crocs cause laces are too taxing yet convinced they can handle a tape 😁 Anyway. This my original NTB Grind out of the Inyen Vina factory in Vietnam. First model to have the scoop. Close up of 12th. As you can see it's technically 34" 10/16ths not the full fat 35". Has me wondering now if my US Cirrus is semi-skimmed too 😳
  20. "Ohhhhhhhhhh yes!"
  21. Decide which capacitor gives you the tone range you want and swap in a pot of the same value and the capacitor, which would be wired up the same way as a P.
  22. I managed to get some workshop time in today, and scrubbed the Tolex clean (well, cleaner, at any rate). Then I was able to connect the speakers, screw them in and replace the grille, which I'd cleaned with a carefully-applied pressure washer. I hooked it all up to two different amps and tried it out; oh my goodness it's loud! I also noticed that it made the differences between each amp very apparent, so I'm happy about that; it also gave a lot of definition in terms of the tone and volume controls on the (cheap plywood) bass. So far I'm very happy with it. Thanks once again to everyone who chipped in with advice etc; I'm looking forward to getting it into the practise room on Tuesday and giving it a workout. Cheers, JRK
  23. There is no such thing as short scale wiring, as a pickup is a pickup... By the way, did you remove the blue heat shrink tubing to discover that there are 4 wires (+ ground) and that the wiring diagram above shows you how to wire a push-pull to have the pickup in split (single coil) and series modes, which is roughly what you want? You could also have the push-pull wired for series/parallel modes, which is not complicated at all if you know what you're doing.
  24. The quality of these basses is incredible.
  25. This thing is taking up space and needs to go - PRICE DROP!
