My last service included a send off for a pilgrim travelling to Rome, and the hymns were: Oh-Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus All for Jesus Brother, sister let me serve you Blessed now , O God the journey Brother, Sister stook in my head as an ear-worm for days afterwards! But that may be the last time I'll be playing bass in church as I've begun the process to convert to Catholicism. But I also play keys and I have an interest in early music, so I'm sure I'll still be involved in church music, just differently!

The second gig of the weekend yesterday for Top Deck. At the Great Northern pub, Langley Mill in Derbyshire. A nice old pub overlooking what was an important meeting place of three canals back in the day. The so-called Great Northern Basin. We played outside on a raised wooden stage area. Thankfully with some shade. A jolly Bank Holiday crowd, that included several children. So, we avoided using some of our jokes.

Another reunion with our original drummer from our first band. Street parties always fill me with terror but this one was quite good last time, so I hope the Wicker Man reference doesn't upset anyone.

Adjust your intonation using your normal fingering at the octave, using a tuner to compare the harmonic with the fretted note. Get it right for your normal finger placement and this will help across the neck. As you get your ear in, you will start to rely on the lines less... but with the long neck on an electric bass it's much harder to hit the right spot when jumping to a note without some yardstick to guide you). It can help to aim slightly flat, as it's easier and sounds better to roll your fingertip up to the correct pitch than to drop down. EDIT: Whoops sorry if that's egg-sucking stuff, I thought this was another thread...

I get what you mean about the first part, but then at the same time if AI were to be influenced by minimal sources it opens it up more to plagiarism. AI and the construct of genre is interesting because I think AI really needs those sort of boundaries and organisation. Yet as we know the influences used in songs make the lines between genres incredibly blurred to the point where it’s almost meaningless!

I just got a Ali Express rechargeable clip on fan, to blow air up the back of my shirt. £7. I wish I'd had it earlier in the summer!

Yes, there is a Manson on eBay at the moment that hasn’t shifted for ages. Not a particularly interesting example imo mind - otherwise I’d be thinking of adding it as a sister to my fretless! I have 4 string Legacy (early ‘87 flame maple from when they were still in Buffalo) that’s just under a bed at the moment so I might be persuaded to part with that if you were interested!

Arrived an hour ago, so just four days from order to delivery. It's a bit short on power to do Wembley stadium, but should add a bit of je ne sais quoi to the average pub gig. Definitely worth a tenner.

So finally the best amp Ive ever used. It’s an absolute monster. Loads of drive and inherent tone baked in. It sounds absolutely stunning when it’s cranked. I’ve paired it with my Barefaced Cabs (also for sale) with a couple of pedals but it’s best left as clean as possible to bring through the ABM tone. it’s immaculate and has always been housed in the SKB case which is also included in the sale. Based South Birmingham near M42

Pickup mods to a bitsa Jaguar. Advice please.

I like EMG stuff, I don't have any direct experience with that set. Reading the blurb it says If you want a wider range of tones that might limit you as I don't think the pickup tone would be wildy different on it's own. I'd be wondering about something with mid range boost? The pluses are that the EMG should be hum free, better the dynamic range (I think they sound better with more voltage: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/197519674095) and you probably could fit at home, even with no experience as their system is solder free. Minuses are that it will be pretty similar to your current range of sounds. -

She should have listened to the stage hands. They usually mark a designated area for each band to put their gear. -

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad it sounds OK. Better to be consistently wrong than all over the place - as you say, perhaps it's partly the bridge intonation. The strings are really light gauge so I can't quite get enough relief on the neck with them as things are - once I have the new bridge installed I'll do a proper setup with my usual strings. Currently with the truss rod slackened off, there's a verrrry slight back bow giving some rattle around the first few frets. The parts are all arriving over the next few days - the bridge and decal are here, the pickup surround and loom are in the post - so we're nearly there.
