  1. Past hour
  2. The Ampeg Micro VR looks cool but apparently the fan is really noisy so it's not well suited to playing at home quietly.
  3. Nothing. If you turn both volumes up the tones will do the same thing. However, on the LP, the way you would use it is by switching between the front and back and at that point the position of the tone control would matter on that pickup. Not only that, on an LP the volumes also can kill each other - turn the volume of one pickup to zero, and then put the switch to both pickups, you won't get any sound. But the easy way to show, if you have an LP, try it. Turn one tone full down and one up, switch betwen them, you will see one is muffled, one isn't, switch to both and it will be muffled.
  4. . Full disclosure: Slap bass played well doesn't offend me at all, and I wish I could play it better...
  5. Has that one been discontinued? I can't find it anywhere.
  6. Also can’t help but notice the very appropriate registration plate on your car. Well done all round, sir!
  7. Zilla will do a 1x12 that you can match to whatever head you want: https://www.zillacabs.com/zilla-cab-customizer Sky is the limit. White with gold corners and VOX grill cloth? You got it!
  8. Nicely done @Rich, must admit I hadn't considered slap as a get out of jail free strategy
  9. Still working the neck into shape, it's getting there. I wired a single pickup straight to the jack last night, so it made an electrical sound for the first time in many years! But what will delight some readers is that the extended stay outside has broken the Neutrik locking jack in the best way possible - it doesn't lock any more. Button still depresses and returns, but the jack is not held in place.
  10. In response to several PMs, this is sale only, no trades. Sorry
  11. Wow, Ash, that’s a lovely neck. I had a Daphne Blue one of these when they first came out, and it was a great player - I only got rid when I returned to long-scales - but the maple neck sure as hell wasn’t roasted like yours. GLWTS.
  12. Hi. I bought this in 2021 for a project that never even got as far as fitting into a body so it's just sat in a box. Time to get shot so someone can use it. I have always fancied having a p-bass but I only ever play 5 strings now blah blah who cares. Anyway. This is just taking up space so it's yours for £25 posted. It's on a silly price because I just want shot of it so not really open to offers/trades.
  13. Without wanting to derail anything, OldGit's Shuker 5-string P was utterly gorgeous. I played a whole gig with it once and the thing was just alive in my hands. When he had it built, there was no such thing as an off-the-peg 5-string P.
  14. Back in the 90s I auditioned for a band in Swindon... it quickly became apparent that their original material was utterly dire, so I slapped my way through one of the songs in an attempt to deliberately fail the audition it seemed to work
  15. Colour me interested. I always wanted a graphic neck for my various Stingrays, but then I found one with the most amazing neck ever and sort of got over it. I'd either try and get this one recreated for the Ray or I'd buy a standard sized one and build a bitsa around it. Good work though!
  16. Bass amps and "sexy" do not inhabit the same universe...
  17. Why isn't there a "None" option in the questions?
  18. Thanks for the replies. I had considered orange but thought it would be too…. Orange. That purple one is definitely sexy though. I love Aguilar’s gear but it is overkill for my apartment. The Laney is a nice looker. My first bass amp when I was a teen was a Laney and it was weak as hell so I’ve always been a bit of a snob towards the brand but should see if I can try one of those. An original Ampeg B15 would be the dream! I’ve been looking at the micro ampeg VR stack as I think they’re pretty and power doesn’t really matter for at home. Ashdown, similar to the above have a nice looking micro stack. Tone is probably a bit warm for my tastes though. I used to have an ABM combo and traded it for Hartke gear that eventually got traded for Mark bass. Not heard of Hevos and can’t find anything online after a quick search? PJB is definitely a contender. Did not know Barefaced did requests. There’s a green colour in their ad on their website that would be perfect with a silver cloth grill. Will be seriously looking at their 110 or 210. Not heard of GR Bass, but they look really nice! Will be checking those out more for sure.
  19. Is the truss rod 2-way, and what kind of a adjustment does it have? Wheel/nut?
  20. I’m in and my deposit is paid. We’ll sort out the details as the project moves forward, I reason.
  21. Appreciated. At least I can have a look and maybe I can do it..
  22. Drunk Again - Reel Big Fish
  23. had a rehearsal with the Church Band last night (we're not really a church band, it's just that the vicar lets us rehearse in our local church - who knows why as none of us are at all religious!)... Drums sound great in there though, wot with it being large and Norman! Annoyingly, singer couldn't make it as she currently has no car and being rural, public transport is non-existent (we'd go and pick her up, except she's 1/2 and hour away!). It's slightly alarming as I may have got us a charity gig (our first gig!)organised by a local Actual Rock Star next month and she's only done two rehearsals with us. However, we seem to have got over guitar-man's inability to be funky and his constant pentatonic noodling - now there's far more rhythm and solos actual stand out. I've also settled on a slightly overdriven envelope follower sound on the Helix which makes things even funkier. Not only that, but we've done a blues GoGo song in the style of Trouble Funk, and a Sly Stone style blues.
  24. That's quite a story, and a great song. U2 seem to get a lot of stick these days, but in the 80s they were really revered by young people, at least in my experience.
