Well it’s much easier in an originals band on a shared backline gig Dave, we turn up with our guitars and whatever bit of kit is our part of the shared backline, from there good to go. I do remember the days of setting up PAs, lights, removing furniture from stage areas, sound checking in a busy pub/bar. Great days but too much for me over last few years.

You should try to find a way to play the 3 of them, at the same place would be a great plus, but I think this will be very hard... Online videos offer a good way to have a rough idea, but the best is to try them on your own. If you take a Mac with you each time you rehearse and gig, there's a fourth option: A Studiologic SL 73 Mk2 or a Numa X Piano 73 (quite redundant as you'll have everything almost twice, see below) coupled to Pianoteq 9 (choose the version for your needs) and Organteq 9 if you need pipe organ sounds (sadly not yet available for iPad), all that will be under your £2k limit, even with the full bundle, excellently sounding and way more versatile. SICbass started following Gotoh bridge adjustment

Hi All, I am trying to set up the intonation on my SGC Nanyo SB502 and I am a little uncertain about which screws do what. Am I right in thinking that screws A are some sort of locking screws? Screws B, just normal string-height adjustment, and screws C (see second pic) are to adjust string length? Cheers, Paul

I have an irrational desire for a Markbass amp. I've got a Fender Bassman, Ash down ABM 600 rig and two separate multi effects pedals with good quality amp Sims. Yet when I hear someone playing through a Markbass rig there's a quality to the sound I am struggling to replicate: the punch. Is this baked in to Markbass amps? Or, is this something I can recreate with EQ and compression or something else? Unfortunately my multis (Headrush MX5 and Boss ME-90B) do not have a Markbass SIM. If I bought a third amp, would I even use it? I've gone in-ears now and my amps are becoming less and less used for gigs.

These two owe me peanuts. This is off a '70s Aria Primary Bass; it was truly knackered when I got it, so there's been a load of tinkering. I put a knock-off Jazz neck on it earlier this year as it was cheaper than a refret. It's gnarly. Bolted this one together this summer. Cheap MIM Jazz body, Precision neck from the same seller as above. Filled the bridge pickup rout, installed a reverse P pickup. Owes me about £200.00. Also gnarly. I have a brace of very expensive basses, but I adore these.

HeadlessBassist started following 90s Yamaha RBX Series

Very reasonably priced and might just need a setup. Where are you buying it from? The RBX series is very similar in price and quality to the Ibanez SR300. Great starter basses.

Does anyone have recent experience with these basses? Are they gig ready? Cheers.

My Yamaha CK-61 sold last night so I now have £ burning a hole in my pocket! ....well, not much as a Kawai ES-60 is on the way from Thomann, I think it'll do well for home use (which includes taking abuse from young kids so I didn't want anything I'd be too precious about). It leaves me the start of a stage piano fund, I've had some offers for my Akai Key 37 so that'll increase the fund once it sells. So now I'm seriously hyped about what stage piano to get! It'll need to be 73... and even that is pushing it as I need to take it to weekly rehearsals and fortnightly gigs along with all my Bass gear (there's a bit of swopping around of band members duties depending on songs) in a small car (VW Polo, which often also has a guitarist and all their stuff) and stage space us usually tight. Depending on how much I can convince myself is worth spending, the main contenders are now: £2k: Nord Electro 73 semi weighted would be the Nord for me due to size, toughness, sounds, drawbars, price (vs the Stage), resale value (£2k is stretching the budget, but the resale after 10 years is decent so I'm counting it almost like a car PCP plan!). The v7 seems overdue so I'd wait for that though - either to get new or for the older second-hand versions to get cheaper. £1.5k: Viscount Legend One 73 is a decent size and weight, sounds good, good keybed (a knowledgeable online reviewer guesses it has Fatar TP-8), Organ drawbars (and lots of them!). All reviews seem to rate it highly - some a bit less so for the non-organ sounds but what I've heard all sound good to me. Perhaps it's just smoke and mirrors to make a modern thing look vintage and give the impression of being something that'll still be good 30 years from now, but it has worked at giving me that impression - keep it simple and nail the hardware for live use and the 'bread and butter' Piano/EP/Organ sounds and it'll stand the test of time for that particular use. Main negatives are it's a bit niche and new so unlikely to be many second hand for a while and no shops to test it, not proven to last for years like the Nords, and resale value might not be great. I think I'm pretty much sold on this though, something about it has really grabbed me just a shame that testing it out isn't an option - but I guess return policies are good nowadays. £850. Numa X 73, good keybed for the price, good interface, the sounds haven't blown me away (just from online reviews) the main thing that puts me off are the Organ sounds don't seem great and lack of drawbars. I kind of think this will feel 'okay - it'll do' but will feel a compromise and won't be something I'm really pleased to keep for many years, it probably isn't much of an upgrade to the Yamaha CK-61 I've just sold other than the extra octave and better keybed. I've tried the Roland and Yamaha options in their showrooms and none in my price range really did it for me. The Yamaha YC 73 has slightly narrower octave width which I thought was noticeable on the CK I owned and not ideal, the sounds didn't wow me. The Roland VR-730 didn't feel a bit improvement over the CK-61, and the V Stage 76 is out of my price range, and both seemed massive - almost deliberately made to take up as much space as possible!

@velvetkevorkian it’s a rapid slide down a tone or semitone and back up to the original note done twice in quick succession.

i like standard d ...it just means you have lower open strings ...you can still play in standard tuning easily enough ..throw a capo on the second fret if you like ...instant shortscale.

The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm

I just don't have time to set up the bass amp at gigs. I have to sort out everything from helping drummer unload and get started on his kit to sorting out the PA speakers and most of the cabling for mains sockets, PA and lights. After i've done all that i try and get time to tune the bass and make sure the amp is all ok. At that point everyone else is set up and they just want to sound check and i've had a few words on occasion that i also need time to set up my own gear but i have to remind them all every now and again. Historically guitar and bass didn't go thru the PA so it had to be a decent sound. These days most of our gigs we use a PA Hire and i thought that would give me more time but i'm finding that i'm now stage arranger sorting out where PA companies kit goes on stage. Anyways i do enjoy it all but it means i struggle to get time for my own gear so my amp is left exact same settings every gig except for the master volume. I do tweak it if i decide to use a different bass. I just wouldn't get time to try out a provided backline to my satisfaction. However as time goes on i can see me falling into same thoughts as you guys. 🤩 Dave
