  2. Thanks, that's much appreciated! Regarding price, would you say they're good value for what you're getting? Or can you get something similar from another brand for much less? The one I've seen is over £1000 2nd hand, and that's really pushing the limits of my budget 😅.
  3. PM’d.
  4. I'm only on Facebook so I can promote whatever band I am currently in. While I don't think I'd quit if I wasn't using it to promote my music I'd probably only look at it once a week tops and my page would simply be whatever my friends had tagged me in.
  5. Yes it is.
  6. Now £350.00. This amazing emulation of the acoustic control corporation 360 preamplifier with variamp and built in fuzz is up for grabs. Hand made by the renowned JC Maillet and commissioned and imported by myself at great cost. I have used the 360+ for studio recordings, gigs, rehearsals and at home, it has never dissapointed. The preamp sounds fantastic and the fuzz section is the best I have used. I have owned this pedal for a good few years from new, as can be seen it's in pristine condition. Specially sourced UK power supply also included. Will happily run from other sources with the right leads (I used it with a trex chameleon). Fully detailed printed instruction manual also included. Only available as I have more preamplifiers than I can use. Try out/collection always welcome, or UK insured postage for £15.00

  7. I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out John. I've played with a couple of 8" tops with a decent sized sub when we did a spot at an open mic in Wokingham. I think the tops were a couple of Alto's. In a typical sized English pub they were appropriately loud, vocals were well handled and everythind sounded as it should. The house band sounded fantastic and this was with live drums, albeit a modest sized kit. I see no reason why this sort of set up shouldn't match one of the modern 'stick' systems which often have a 12" or even 2x8" dedicated sub. The 8" tops will be more directional but that could mean that the sound is thrown further, so which works best would depend upon the venue. You aren't too far from me so it would be good to come out and see how you get on.
  8. I have several times and almost bought one several times, but never actually did as wrong price / wrong time. I found them good to play and sound good, but only in shops etc, never in a gig
  9. I know it’s not the real deal. But, I wanted to give the Rush tribute ‘Moving Pictures’ a shoutout. Saw them in Birmingham last night with my old man and they were fantastic. Incredibly tight and very convincing. Granted, I’ve not seen the real thing live. But, my Dad has seen them a handful of times and was equally impressed! I’m sure many have seen them before but I was well impressed!
  10. I just bought a superb leather Maruszczyk gigbag from Brian. Couldn’t have been a smoother purchase with Brian’s great packing ,rapid dispatch ( delivery included for a relatively cheap item ) and clear friendly messaging. Thanks again Brian ! Quent 🤓
  11. I absolutely love this bass!!!!
  12. The Hulla band played last night at a hoedown in the village hall where we rehearse, to raise funds to repair and maintain the building. Country and Western isn't my thing so I wasn't enthused by the setlist, and much of it was new to the band so the run up to the gig was a trail of rearranged songs, last minute set list changes and, frustratingly, a key change with 24hrs to go that meant I had to relearn a tricky bassline using open strings instead of the all fretted version. I always struggle with including open strings in a riff for some reason. All in all a good night. Well attended (we sold just under 90 tickets which meant the hall was comfortably full) the bar was popular and the bangers, mash 'n' beans went down very well indeed. From a bass perspective, most of the songs were quite simple but I have developed a liking for Johnny Cash as a result of learning three of his tunes. We tried to include as many line dancing type songs as we'd heard that a large contingent of the audience had been practicing their line dancing for the night. Sure enough, there were about 20 regular dancers for anything vaguely line danceable. Our backdrop was a series of old black and white cowboy movies on a projection screen and there were the inevitable cowboy hats. I used my Squier PJ into a Laney Digbeth preamp on the valve setting, with a touch of drive to add warmth. That went straight into the desk and I monitored using a Behringer P16 and wireless system with earpieces. I've changed the gain structure on the IEM system I use and it has resulted in a much clearer sound in my ears at a much lower level. For a couple of songs I played up the neck using the edge of the neck where it joins the body as a thumb rest. It gave me a nice thick tone for 'These Boots'. Highlight of the night for me was 'Rhinestone Cowboy', which I'd made the effort to learn the full bass part for and it gave me a new respect for the musicians playing on those kinds of songs. Footwear was a pair of ordinary black boots, cowboy boots not being available. Hat was by Amazon. Checked shirt courtesy of a local BHF charity shop.
  13. I bought this in 1993 and gigged and recorded with it, but I've hardly played this bass in years so I'm putting it up for sale. This is, as far as I know, original. Someone said that it would have come from the factory with a black scratchplate but if you look at pictures of Kim Deal playing her identical bass you'll see that has a clear one too - I think it was the solid red painted ones that had the black pickguard but hey. It's well-worn. Plenty of dinks, bucklerash on the back but it all works really well and it sounds and plays amazing - last time it went to Bass Gallery for a setup and they said everything was good. Frets are in good nick. The volume pot has a slight crackle but it's sat in the case for months so a bit of use would sort that out I recon. Weight is just over 4kg according to my kitchen scales. Ideally you could come around to me in London SE14 to try it before buying. The price DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CASE as it's the only hard case I have but I'll chuck it in for an extra £75. I recently bought a new bass and have the big cardboard box so I can package it up very securely for posting but you'd have to arrange the courier and take the risk. I am not desperate to sell this, it's just that I have stopped playing 4-strings and have not played the 'Ray in ages so it's taking space and could be used by someone else. I asked the team at Bass Direct about selling it for me and they said they'd put it up at £1500 so I think £1350 is fair for a private sale. I'm not really interested in trades as I don't really want anything else but try me. I'm a weak man, but I have very little space for storage so big amps/cabs are not possible and I play 5-strings. Any questions just ask. IMG_4579.MOV IMG_4576.MOV

  14. Hey guys, has anyone ever tried one the NS Dimensions 5 fan fret basses? I've been eyeing up one and just curious to hear others thoughts on them.
  15. In terms of sound? It's a little difficult to be objective. I have too much respect for Rob and the Status team to be drawn into direct comparisons, they have made some fantastic necks. So maybe a batch 1 customer can make a comment after they have installed their neck. What I can say though is our neck construction is inspired by more heavily by Steinberger. We like the solid full sound of Steinberger necks, the even string response and snappy attack which isn't too aggressive. However the end result can also depend very much on the body wood. So if you wanted to aim for a timbre with more mids, go for a softer wood like light weight mahogany or sapele, alder or basswood. Lightweight swamp ash might be growly as well but it also brings snappy highs. Also set your action as low as possible to reduce string tension.

  17. I would work out where the cuts are likely to be. Then, before cutting, I would smear the area with some superglue, let it dry and then cut. Perhaps even add a small piece of tape over the area too.
  18. Thanks... To be fair I did cut them really carefully & crimped the ends to prevent the windings from unravelling. Also with stringing through body would have taken some excess length of the long scale strings.
  19. Ha ha, fair enough, I did it once and it unraveled within seconds, but that’s life I guess. Beautiful trio there 👍
  20. Not wanting to contradict any advice stating it's a bad idea, but I did it. Had a set of cut down 34" Labella tape wounds on one of my Squier Vista Musicmasters (pink) with no issues.
  21. Argh. I also have to drop out 😭 Hope everyone has a great day, apologies to those wanting to see the Super Twin 😢
