Groovy ! How easy is it to change the strings ?

Clarification: I was playing the DB while standing on the sidewalk, hard to get a good sound playing the sidewalk and the concrete is hard on the fingers.🤣

Chromatic Fantasy - Bach/Jaco Here’s my attempt at the monster tune Chromatic Fantasy by Bach but we all know it from Jaco ✌️ I first heard jaco’s version 10 years ago and believed I never could play something like that, but when I learnt the first two bars I was like “it bleeds! It can be slain” 😂 fast forward 20 hours and here we are.

Thanks @HeadlessBassist😸 I saw the lobster review ( very positive ), and a few you tube clips . Plus a review from a uk bass magazine . All reviews are positive from what I’ve seen . I have ( and have had) headless basses . The Washburn status is a powerful beast . The jack Daniels bass feels like a hohner which I used to have , and the custom fretless I purchased from my bass is similar to a kubicki/ bootlegger bass. I couldn’t get on with the feel of the full bodied Steinberger xm2 I had , but the sound was awesome ! That’s now gone . Regarding sound , not sure what I want . This is because I just use a bass I decide to pick-up , and plug into mixer to record rubbish on SoundCloud . Sometimes with effects , sometimes just straight bass . Regarding which bootlegger model ..it’d be the long scale one . The idea I have is to ( maybe) get a comfy 5 string to finish off my collection. I prefer headless , due to space and less faffing around ..

After a fight with both my ageing laptop and a cranky Soundcloud, I've finally managed to upload this month's effort. The Sage. Who is he? Where did he come from? What does he want? What does he know? Why has he started breakdancing in the old part of town? Has he got the moves? Can he still do them? Will we have to call an ambulance for the mysterious old coot? There's a tiny bit of guitar and a drum sample (or two) from Looperman but Ableton is this month's hero with all the other gubbins on the track being pieced together with it.

At an open mic a month or so ago, one of the bands played Heroes by David Bowie. The bassist proceeded to play mostly an overly busy version of something I've since seen people all over youtube claiming to be the bass part (I'm sure it really isn't), but even that wasn't enough for him so he interspersed it wherever he could with slap breaks and double tapping. It was horrendous. He was a lovely chap though.

Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young

I have been looking at their Chibson SJ200 copies for around the £250 mark . I struggle with dreadnought size guitars and the narrower waist of the SJ200 may make it easier to manage . Far easier to buy a copy ( then sell on ) than dropping £4000 on the real thing .

Man. Where do I start? I wasn’t always the biggest fan of Ozzy or sabbath. My gateway to metal ran through Guns n roses, Bon Jovi - hard rock acts. From there I fell into Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. I was aware of Sabbath and Ozzy of course but I wasn’t a particularly huge fan. I respected them for what they created, but there were louder, faster, darker acts out there by the time I was discovering metal in the early 90’s. However the shadow of Sabbath and Ozzy loomed over everything. Pantera did sabbath covers. Anyone who was anyone in metal attributed their passion to the Birmingham quartet and their lunatic frontman. Still not a ‘fan’, they were impossible to avoid, from compilation CD’s, to articles in Metal Hammer. You learned by Ozmosis (sorry!). War Pigs, paranoid, the Wizard. Crazy Train, Mr Crowley. All became ingrained in my psyche, and I still wasn’t a fan. I told people ‘oh yeah they’re vital, but I don’t really like them that much’ i got older, I got wiser. I paid more attention. Iommi, Butler and Ward were the engine of sabbath, they made it work. But Ozzy was the paint job that screamed ‘look at me!’. He was the heart and soul of Sabbath. They were a good band without him - Dio’s sabbath were incredible, except they weren’t Sabbath. Ozzy made them iconic. He made them ‘them’. i realised that I’d been lying for years. Telling people I wasn’t a fan. Telling people I respected their influence, but never loved their music. I realised too late that I was always a fan. Probably since I first heard them on one of those compilation CD’s. Since Tuesday night all I’ve done is blast Sabbath and Ozzy. We’re gonna put paranoid in our set next week and close the show with it. Our little tribute to the Prince of darkness. I hope he’s looking down right now, shaking his head and wondering what all the fuss is about. Probably shouting for ‘SHARRROOON’ to explain why gen-x is being so quiet right now.

There have been a few different versions of Ampeg's active midrange EQ in different models over the years. They all use a multi-tapped inductor in a similar way, but they've used several different valves to do it.

Hehe, many received opinions there 🤔 The Cort Artisan Space 5 is a lovely bass. I've had one and now have the four string version. Highly recommended for the money. The Ibanez models are a lot more spenny and never sound as good to my ears. Which Bootlegger are you looking at? The nice looking 'Absinthe' or the oddly shaped 'Ace' which looks like a spade (or some other digging implement) to my eyes. Have you heard these basses being played/know what the neck profiles are like? I must admit, I've never heard of the company before. Just had a listen to the Low End Lobster review and that neck pickup looks to be too close to the end of the neck - you're going to get a Gibson-esque tone (if that's what you want )

…anyone tried one ?? I’m considering getting a 5 string headless . If I was a gigging bassist I’d go for something like a status , or something in a higher price bracket . But, I’m not . I considered a Steinberger spirit , but the reviews are mixed . Thought about Ibanez , but not too blown away tbh. Considered a cort artisan space 5 , and the necks on them and Ibanez seem to be more or less the same ..Made In Indonesia. A trend imho . I contacted Chuck Wilson , the main man of Bootlegger guitars . Nice chap, who responded swiftly to my email.The colour I wanted ( wine red ) is on back order ,but will be 25% more . Regarding price to purchase one including shipping works out around £865 approx . That is without customs costs etc Chuck did say that people from the uk purchased without incurring customs charges, but obviously it isn’t guaranteed I’ll escape customs charges . Normally a 4 stringer when I’m bothered these days . I was wondering maybe if I’m better off just getting my Warwick set up as B-E-A-D instead 🤔 some say G strings are mainly for strippers anyway . ..

I do have a full tube amplifier. It sits at the bottom od the stairs to my basement 'studio.' The amp id an Ampsg B15NF from the sixties. Playing through it is a delight. No matter the mood I'm in plugging into this amplifier brings a smile to my face and a rise in my mood! I love that thing.. When it first arrived I had a JBL 2225 doing nothing so I installed it in the combo. It sounded great BUT there was 'something' missing. After a time I reinstalled the original driver with its square magnet and the 'something' was back. The JBL went back into it's box and back into storage.
