  2. An ambient mic would certainly work and be cheaper but you'd probably have to compromise with how the drums sounded in the monitors. Given my experiences i'd rather have single mic drums than some of the IEM feeds I've experienced. The EAD10 is two ambient mics and the kick drum via a trigger and all the eq etc is sorted for you. Even at an ordinary gig it will probably give you as good as/better than you''d get with a 3 mic set up done in a rush. Talking to drummers they are marmite, some won't touch them and some swear by them.

  6. Gluing cut-up bits of an old trouser belt on to a standard sized gig bag that allows it to be used for a short scale bass and hence stored in the car boot, out of sight.
  7. This has been an accusation made about Glastonbury since it stopped being a free festival. I think each generation has an expectation about what type of festival Glastonbury is/should be based upon their personal experience of enjoying the festival during a particular era.
  8. So our gig yesterday was er challenging. Firstly our singer arrived at the gig with a sore throat which got progressively worse over the two sets. Then, just one song from the end of the first set, the PA tripped. Looks like one of our extension reels took exception to the rather warm and humid conditions and tripped its thermal protection, even though the reel itself was stone cold and the cable was fully uncoiled (a lesson learned from the past). Then, during soundcheck all our in-ears were working fine, but as soon as we fired up in earnest, mine started suffering massive dropouts. So I quickly had our roadie/helper/harmonica player reel out another XLR to move my transmitter to my side of the ‘stage’ at which point I had perfect signal, but the singer/guitarist then suffered drop outs (we’re both using X-Vives and we’ve never had this before). So I finished the first set old school, no plugs or IEM’s and I had forgotten just how loud this is, and how difficult it is to pick your bass out in the mix when you are a) stood virtually on top of you cab, and b) right next to the drums. Second set I went wired with my Behringer P2M and no further problems. Oh and did I mention it was hotter than hell in the venue, a smallish pub with a great reputation for live music and fine ales.

  11. Superb jazz inspired bass with a modern take, nut width feels closer to a Precision but neck not as thick. Fitted with my preferred 35-95 Rotos with a low action, no unwanted fret buzz it really plays and sounds great. I have two and have decided to let one go. Its obviously been played over its 24 years so has some tarnishing, dings and scratches none of which affect functionality, really sad to see it go but letting stuff go to get a mortgage deposit going.   13. In my head I'm wondering about some form of ambient mic near the kit @Phil Starr What are we losing by going the XR18 @JPJ as opposed to X32?

I've had these a while, using them in various amps with valve preamp stages, but my move away from such amps means they are now surplus: Mullard ECC83 - code B6B3 means made in Blackburn, third week of February in either 1956, 1966 or 1976 = £50 Mullard ECC83 - (code backward3)91 means made in Chelmsford for Mullard by Marconi, but not sure how to date the rest = £50 Mullard ECC81 - no code that I can see = £25 Caveat Emptor: I have tested them in my Demeter amp and they are all working fine at time of writing, but as always with old valves be aware they can fail at any time. Please do bear that in mind before you buy.

  15. As they have round cores I would say there's a bit mellower than the D'Ads. Watch this video, from 1:56 to 2:42 and then again from 6:49 to 7:35, which might help.

  17. If you are going with the MS8000 then you could save on the X32 rack and go with an X-Air XR18 which is currently retailing for an unbelievable £359
  18. What I did watch I thought was very lack lustre and poor ( perhaps an age thing ) but with one or two exceptions I felt Glastonbury had sold its soul slightly
  19. I saw a singer once stop the band and announce that they were going to stop for a minute as someone had something very important to say, and pointed the mic at the offending person. 😄
  20. Probably a good provision if you are doing enough of this type of event to justify the expense. I've had several episodes of the monitors being perfect at sound check only to be given someone elses feed during the gig, there's only so much 'can I have a bit more of this and a bit less of that' you can do, especially when you know at least one other band member is wondering why my bass and vocals are dominating their mix. It's reall tough to concentrate and play well when your mix has failed. Probably worse for the poor sod who gets my vocals I'm surprised nobody yet has offered the chance to mix your own monitors via a phone app at the smaller multi band events. IEM's are no longer really cutting edge technology and the apps can usually be locked so you don't have access to FOH. I've mixed these events myself in the past and with 10 min changeovers it can be hell to get everything done and not every band is co-operative or even knows what it is doing. Passing on the extra job of setting up monitors sounds great to me. I could always just feed them FOH if they eff up. On the subject of drums how about the Yamaha EAD10 here It's a load of expense but I've seen drummers use it to mic up their kits and It works OK compared to many people's version of mic'ing a kit.
  21. As I understand it, the 'head' is the main theme of a piece of music, which you are likely to return to during the piece. The chart is simply the piece of paper that you have on a music stand in front of you (or these days, a file on an iPad). For example, in Jaco's 'Portrait of Tracy', you get the all harmonics intro, then you play the head (the main melodic bit that you remember about the tune) before a B section and then back to the head for the outro. I'm sure that Rob can correct me if I haven't got that quite right.

  23. Friend of mine had to stop playing due to arthritis, he changed his diet, lost a lot of weight and his arthritis eased right off, he's back playing again, I don't know the full ins and outs but it might be worth investigating? ...also, this is a stunning instrument!
  24. Dep bass player needed for a function gig in Bedford on 30th August 2025. Indie / pop / rock set, bvs not required, usual function times (1800 arrival 0000 finish). Band use iems but will provide belt pack so you just need the iems themselves. Amp with DI or modelling fx unit both fine. £280 fee. Message me for details and ill put you in touch with the band. They're a great bunch of guys with no egos and it's always a fun hang. Drummer is great so easy for a bass player.
  25. There's a relationship between cabinet size and sensitivity: all things being equal, a larger cab will be more sensitive than a smaller one. In my experience, the Goodwood is louder than the BF One10, but because it uses neodymium drivers, weighs about the same. I have a smaller cab in the works that is currently undergoing field testing. That could be a contender for your project, @funkle, and I could include you as one of the field testers if you like.
