I've just had a read of that discussion and it looks like a reasonably common problem. These power supplies are usually pretty reliable so this is looking like a lack of quality control. They are the same sort of supply we rely on for running laptops and pretty much anything nowadays and the 5.5/2.1 mm plugs are pretty much standard too, though I'd expect better on an £800 mixer. The standard price for these seems to be around £12-13 and it looks like people who have the same problems as you are just buying them with a backup. Looking at them they are all very similar whatever the branding with a suspiciously similar sized case. Sadly it looks like Allen and Heath have cut corners with the power supply and haven't done the quality control, they've just bought them in. In your circumstances I'd just order one up from Farnell or even Amazon and try it. If it works then get a spare just in case.

I tried the D800+ with a Barefaced 410. It wasn't really my cuppa tea. So i sold both. And kept my Mesa 215 cab and Genz-Benz heads.

Id love to try one of these, none in stock anywhere for the foreseeable though

Very interesting. I've had the D800+ and as good as it is, we never really gelled, so I sold it. I've only heard great things about the 800D but I'm still holding off because the WD-800 and TT-800 are still on my G.A.S. list. I currently favour the Genz-Benz ShuttleMax 9.2 and like the 2 channels. So the TT has always caught my attention. It's good to hear your A/B comparison and it makes me G.A.S. a little more for the TT-800. 👍🏽

I've had 2 necks from ebay and one from ali express. I have used both ebay necks and they are working well I fret levelled one, it wouldn't go dead straight but my course teacher, Dom (Crimson guitar fret levelling course) did say some necks are like that, get it as straight as you can, then level crown and polish turned out nice (lovely flamed maple too) the other neck didn't need levelling The Ali-express neck hasn't been used.............yet

I had a Walkabout head for a bit but couldn't get what I wanted from it. I was using a Barefaced 212 + horn ( Big Twin? Super Baby? ) and they didn't seem to get along. Beautiful thing, though, well put together and faultless even after 10-15 years.

Me, @rumblefish and another BC'er did an a/b comparison with a TT-800 the other evening. Both superb amps and they weren't radically different in sound. The majority decision was in favour of the TT but that's not any sleight on the 800D. The TT just had some indefinable 'more' to it. Either way, incredible amps with that Mesa dna running through them.

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...
tauzero replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
Non-standard by whose standards? The primitives of the USA? As this is an entirely rational prejudice I suppose it shouldn't be in here, but metric is a far superior measuring system to imperial (and which imperial are you using as the standard?), and the UK has been metric for 60 years, so why the f*ck do people still want o use imperial? I will make certain exemptions - tyres, loudspeakers, and televisions have become standardised as measured in inches. Nothing else should be. I'm just off to play my 865mm scale bass. -
Stranglers keyboard on the Repair Shop tonight

As you say, there's no locating hole - I assume that they butt up against a stop to locate them, can't remember if the screw itself held the reed in place or if there was a metal clamping piece. In fact, looking back (at around 5:30 onwards) it seems they go into a narrow slot and are held by one screw per reed, but I did wonder if there's a pair of overall clamping screws which clamp up that narrow slot so the actual sounding part is the part that emerges from the clamping piece. Aha! just gone back again - at 5:17 and 5:26 you can see that a bit further back from the row of screws that hold the reeds, there's a couple of countersunk holes which are rather beefier than the reed-holding screws - I think those would be the ones to clamp the top and bottom of the reed holding strips together. -
Show us your rig of choice for the weekend ** Basschat edition**
DGBass replied to bassace97's topic in Amps and Cabs
Rig of choice for last nights regular Friday/Saturday studio session. It's something budget friendly I put together recently, and so far it's been working really well when I don't need a bigger amp and my Silverstone II. The amp is an Ashdown little giant 350 from 2008. It's very quiet for studio work and the DI is clean and records really well. The cab is a Hartke 210 TP sealed box affair with those aluminium cone drivers. It's super compact and weighs in at 15kg, mainly because the speakers have enormous ceramic magnets and make up two thirds of the cab weight. They sound quite good, and seem to have a sort of naturally bright scooped tone that works well with an active bass. Should be able to do pub gigs with the rig. We shall see. -

Davy started following TC BG250 112 Combo Replacement Speaker?
-
Hi everyone. The speaker cone sounds like it has spilt on my TC BG250 112 combo. I'm getting a rasping sound on various EQ settings at low and high volumes. Does this sound like I need a new speaker? Can this be done by a novice DIYer and if so, can anybody recommend a suitable replacement that will fit the existing cab? Cheers.
