Our annual festival (now moved on to a bigger town; it outgrew us...) had, for over ten years, one full-time salaried Director, three or four full-time 'trainees' on minimum or gov. grant salaries, a volunteer full-time committee of a couple of dozen, and, for the main event in the summer, about three hundred volunteers for setting up, running, then packing down, the long week-end. Multiple stages, many 'off' activities, street artists and 'open' stages. All the artists, security staff, sound techs and hire companies that required payment were paid; those that performed for free were treated the same as the headliners. There was never any question of 'some folk are paid, why not everyone..?', and the event paid for itself (modestly...) just about every year. Having served many years on the committee, I, and hundreds like me, have splendid memories from those days, working alongside a great team, creating a wonderful and varied event for the benefit of all. Were some of the 'ambulants' serving food commercial..? Yes. Did we pay to have generators on site..? Yes. Was it a 'pro' team that erected the main stages..? Yes. Was that an issue..? No. It was a rich mix of benevolent colleagues and paid artists, professionals and street vendors in which everyone gained. Happy daze.

It's not always clear what causes tinnitus, but it's often linked to: * some form of hearing loss * Ménière's disease * conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders or multiple sclerosis * anxiety or depression * taking certain medicines – tinnitus can be a side effect of some chemotherapy medicines, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aspirin Yup, got al that but sadly/luckily none of that applies to me. Unless I'm anxious about my tinnitus, of course.

Interesting that you should bring this up as my reverb pedals are back on my pedal board now. I'm still using delay but not as much, only when it's short so tempo is less of an issue. The HoF is back on the board, I found a nice tone print with a bit chorus that adds just a bit thickening without being noticeable. Lots of reverb for the fretless tho!

I use different basses for different bands. Some bands require a particular look or core tone, so therefore requiring a variety of basses. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!
-
Yes. It could be linked to quite a few other conditions, and there are therapies that are proven to manage it. The NHS pages on it list a few. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tinnitus/

For sale/trade/swap A super clean example of these high end German made cabs, aside from a few light scuffs on the corner protectors. Neo loaded lightweight cab rated 800watts and it's the 4 ohm version with horn attenuation dial. Currently a pretty hefty price at Thomann so I think this represents real value. I took this as a trade myself but I prefer my tecamp cabs after trying several various cabs in recent months. Happy to post if necessary, I have lots of packaging. This would be up to the buyer with regards to the carrier and level of insurance. Trade/swap wise and amp (head) or bass of similar value could be of interest. Cheers Craig.

You don’t need to really - or at least it would be a lot of work for little real gain given that to manage output you can balance the G/D and A/E poles with PUP height, and in doing so some of the tone imbalance would at the same time be resolved (and of course by swapping PUP arrangement you’d probably introduce different tone issues) 👍

It’s yours so do whatever you like it’s already been refinished once so the “authenticity” is anyway reduced if it were me, I’d buy a cheap look-a-like of rutger’s jazz in case of theft

I thought about doing that too, Si. You can have that effect on people. 💋

Not a true analog split but I use this in a couple of bands. Only works on Behringer or Midas kit with the Ultranet system though. I have it set so that each output is a copy of the corresponding channel input immediately after the gain control - which you need to remember not to mess with, but thankfully the sound tech can’t either! It’s in the bottom rack space here, connected to to my XR18 via a single ethernet cable: And here’s a handy video from Scott Uhl, who I’ve found to be a great resource on all things wireless:

Now, I totally get that. The hardest part for a band is to find the right members, I think. If they join you and don't go prepared to rehearsals, then they are not a good fit, that's all. I endured a few bands when starting out, trying to make every situation work. Eventually I realised that learning when to quit a band was a very useful and powerful tool. I think it extends to choosing your bandmates: if somebody is unreliable, I will not have them around, full stop, and replace them with somebody else who is reliable. If I didn't, I'd probably be typing lots of posts in the Daily Annoyances thread 😄

I kind of see both sides of the pay for free argument. It’s worth noting though that Glastonbury keeps going due to the vast array of volunteers, from security, medical, cleaning, maintenance etc. Artists always used to get free entry and camping and a 40 minute set seem like far less hassle than cleaning up afterwards or herding in a couple of hundred thousand revellers.

I don't fully get the question. They're adults: they manage themselves. They know what the expectations are, how often we're aiming to play, how much time they are likely to need and what sort of availability, etc etc. If that works for them, then they make it work. Motivation? They have to like playing with the band, that's all it takes really. There's one guy in particular playing with us, trumpet, who makes a lot more money with other gigs than with us, but still plays most of our gigs. He just likes to do it, so he makes it happen. If somebody is a problem with their level of commitment or creating scheduling issues, then THEY are not motivated enough for that particular band. It's not down to me to change their mind.
-
I'd keep the finish as is and get a white scratch plate. That would look sweet! 😍

This is a Squier Classic Vibe P bass neck. Someone has added a Fender logo. Tuners are Gotoh GB2. They are quite stiff and have a high ratio (1:26), which means it takes longer to string up but once done they are accurate and hold the tuning well. One ear is slightly bent. The skunk stripe is very slightly not flush on one side for the first couple of frets. I estimate about the thickness of a piece of paper, so 0.05-0.10mm. Nut width: 41mm Heel width: 64mm Heel height: 26mm £110 posted within UK.
