  2. I don't get the urge to make amps look pristine but make guitars look relic'd. I love the look of a relic"d amp. Amps have a far harder life than guitars on the road. This one looks superb. I'd leave as is. GLWTS
  3. All our venues are cash only. If they aren’t cash then they aren’t one of our venues. Fortunately we don’t do it for a living and can be choosy.
  4. For Sale is my mid-80's Yamaha BB1100s. This is the active/passive switchable version with 3-band eq (in active mode). Everything works, but it has the usual minor dings of a 30+ year old instrument. I have tried to capture them as best as I can in the pics. Made in Taiwan. Weighs 3.5kg and comes with new Rotosound RS66 fitted. Had a new switchcraft jack socket not long ago as the original one had got a bit intermittent. Everything else is original. Comes with a lightweight hard case and I have a shipping box so can courier for £25-ish (£15-ish more if full insurance is required). Or can meet up in or around Norwich. (No trades/swaps thanks - I need the bass count to go down!)

  5. Possibly my fav envelope filter of all time. Certainly top three. Also, the combo of Boss OC2 - ZVEX Mastotron - Subdecay Prometheus is hands down the best synth bass tone from a trio of pedals!
  6. Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed reading the whole thread, and that bass is a beauty! I think it's a more modern one than mine because the headstock looks similar to a Vintage Reissued Precision I had a while back. It's great to hear you've still got the bass. It seems that most people who come by these basses have a love affair with them 🙂
  7. Years before I got into playing bass, I do remember one of my friends at Uni owning a cream coloured Encore P bass. I think I only had it in my hands once, unplugged so couldn't really tell you very much about it. I do remember thinking it was a nice looking bass though.
  8. Sad news, like others have said, Take On Me was a breath of fresh air completed by an incredible video, great singer. My eldest lad has a mate whose Dad has been trialling a new treatment up here in the NE with amazing results, he even made local news a while back. He's back on his bike and living a very improved life so far 👍🏼
  9. Only way to find out is by playing with him not like that
  10. If anybody is interested in a white one of these with a maple neck then I'd be interested in this bass here. A 3-way swap/sale if that works for anyone ?
  11. This is such a beautiful bass. I am so sorry I am left handed! GLWTS

    This bass tone!

I don't know about the bass tone on this track but I really like the tune. Listening to other stuff Sven has done, I can tell he's a big fan of the sound tracks from the old Dirty Harry films. Maybe a bit of Bullit in there too.
  13. I've been talking to a guy about joining his "collective". Here's what he said in his first message to me. Seems a bit of an odd suggestion that "finding a soul/funk/groove influenced bassist has been like searching for the Holy Grail". "Hi there, Firstly it’s great to know that there is a Soul, Funk & Groove style bassist in the area, Most are Rock or blues influenced. I, and many of my musician friends have been looking to get a really good funky soul Band together for a while, without much success as decent bass players are very rare, And finding a soul/funk/groove influenced bassist has been like searching for the holy Grail." He'll be the band leader, lead singer and keys player. He's 63. I went to his house for a chat and he told me all about his extensive history of playing drums and singing going back as far as his teens. I asked if he has any video links he could send me. He said; " I don’t think I have anything from the digital era! I have a video, but haven’t transferred it to any other format. I can ask my daughter whether she knows of any phone footage of our performances, I have cd’s and tapes of demos and things like that, it’s not really something I’m into! Listening to myself or watching myself is not my idea of fun, I’m very critical, that’s the problem." Too many red flags?
  14. Will let this go for £800 for the next couple of days, as i have something incoming. If not sold by then I'll keep it.
  15. Played at the Cart & Horses in the East End on Friday night with the Zep tribute. If you didn't know, this is the venue where Iron Maiden cut their teeth, which of course you would never guess from the complete lack of memorabilia around the place, Maiden themed beers and wine at the bar and everything in the familiar IM font...! 😉 A bit of an odd gig, as we had a dep drummer for the night, which as you might imagine is a tough gig for a drummer to dep. The guy we got in had been struggling at a couple of rehearsals we managed to get in, but he did fine. Not perfect, but not a disaster by any means! Great audience and Didge even managed to work the Eastenders theme into his keys solo! NB. the picture is of the soundcheck, not the keys solo in the gig itself...!
  16. Yep i'm a big fan of Guy Pratt ever since seeing Delicate Sound of Thunder original video tape which for me had a better mix than the re-release they did. His bass solo was outstanding in that vid. Dave

  20. I bought an Encore Precision a couple of years ago in a charity shop and it is genuinely one of my favourite basses, among some much, much more expensive ones. It has some amazing grain on the body which is solid wood, the neck also has some nice grain and quilting, and a lovely piece of rosewood for the fretboard. A bit of love and a Tonerider pickup and it sounds and play fantastic. Link to the NBD thread below if interested.
  21. Ooohh that's nice. That would look great in my Glam band. Dave
  22. Gorgeous bass tone on this new Sven Wunder disc from around 35s. There must be more going on here than just plectrum & flats?
  23. A bit late, but I thought this might be useful if anyone else is in a similar position - the Dunlop ECB004 worked a treat. Noiseless.
  24. It depends what you are doing and what your band is about. Are you playing covers of tracks where the performance is more important than the song? If I'm playing something like Hot For Teacher, I want the guitarist for nail EVH's guitar part note for note. Same thing for a Rush tribute, the performance is key, so play it exactly like the record or don't bother. It's a bit different covering many other types of bands, where the bass player(s) might have developed / changed the parts over the years, or never played the same thing twice. Then you have to get the feel and spirit of the original, rather than just play the part as the record. Of course, it also depends whether you are playing the song, or covering the a particular version of the song. Remember that often keeping it simple is the best option and not settling for less at all. The thing is that you should be playing a simple part by choice, not because you can't play anything different!
  25. Thanks Mark, certainly is a whole lot of amp for the money. Flexible eq and enough power for most of the gigs anyone's likely to play.
  26. Having a bit of a streamline of my pedalboard and looking to let these beauties find a new home. Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver DI You know the deal, industry standard preamp/DI functionality - this one has 3 switchable channels allowing you to vary your tone/drive as required. A great pedal that's been a key part of my board but no longer required due to my GK 700RB amp. Excellent condition comes with the box. Looking for £160 posted MXR M85 Bass Distortion A flexible bass distortion based on the famous RAT circuit this one has both the original RAT and Turbo RAT circuits switchable via a push button. Sounds great and in excellent condition apart from a few small chips in the paint. Looking for £90 posted Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor Really versatile workhorse compressor that gets great reviews on sites like Ovnilabs - https://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/vicegrip.shtml. A few battle scars to the paintwork but apart from that it's in great nick. Looking for £110 posted EHX Bass Clone Chorus Bought this last year looking for a Peter Hook kind of sound as it's a modern version of the original EHX Clone Theory. Hardly ever used, comes with the box. SOLD Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver DI Cheap clone of the famous Sansamp Bass Driver DI, does a fantastic job considering the price differences. Looking for £15 posted
