  2. Looks like a lovely shop, a nicely away from the nightmare of the town centre! It's not too far from me, I'll pop along at some point.
  3. I’ve had more playing time yesterday and today (after getting some actual sleep) and am really enjoying it.
  4. Such great basses, and my gigging basses of choice for some years was two of these, the band still talk about them today. Mine were not heavy, and were very versatile. Underrated basses these, and worth the asking price all day long.
  5. Selling a classic 1991 Warwick Streamer Stage II. Bought this about six months ago from the original owner. It’s in fantastic condition. Looks as good a new really. Some light tarnishing to the gold hardware but that’s about it. It had been sat in storage for quite some time before I bought it so it needed a bit of attention. I had the battery connector replaced and it’s had a full setup and light fretstone since I got hold of it and it’s feeling lovely to play. It’s a lovely instrument and I’ve really enjoyed playing it over the last few months but it doesn’t really fit in with the kind of work I do so it’s not going to get played enough to justify keeping it. Plus I’ve just bought another bass and frankly I need to replenish the gear funds! The bass doesn’t have a case unfortunately so it’s collection only from Peckham SE15. You’re welcome to come and try it out and have a cup of tea, no pressure! My feedback thread on here:
  6. Congratulations! Curious about your thoughts on it after the arrival and initial play. I was looking at the 5 string version of it, I think I have posted pics in the other thread but the additional cost of importing put me off in the end. In general I really like these new special editions, great to see the brand bringing out such gems
  7. The inputs on the front of the 214 are a combination 1/4"/XLR socket. Just use a bog standard XLR-XLR cable (male plug at the interface end). The interface can recognise what plug has been connected.
  8. I was tempted to go to the London show next Thursday but I think I need a night in!
  9. Tom McGuire and the Brass holes at Rescue Rooms in Nottingham this Saturday. Looks like it'll be a hoot https://www.tomandthebrassholes.com/about-us
  10. More than a few DIY experimenters have turned that hobby into a lucrative profession. Included in that list: James Lansing, Paul Klipsch, Edgar Villchur, Henry Kloss, Conrad Sundholm, Thomas Danley and Alex Claber, and if I may, myself. All of got into speaker design because they were dissatisfied with what was available commercially and thought they could come up with something better. Audio design in general, and speaker design in particular, has always been advanced by the work of amateurs, unimpeded by corporate politics. Villchur's example is perhaps the best. He had a Masters degree in Art History. He got into audio as a radio repairman while in the Army in WWII. That piqued his interest in audio, which he followed up on after the war. When he came up with the idea for the acoustic suspension speaker he shopped it to all the major players. They all said the same thing, that if his idea had any merit that their own engineers would have already done it. That was circa 1950. Undaunted, Villchur built a prototype of his new speaker out of a plywood box. The dimensions of the face of the box were taken from a picture frame that he had hanging in his house. His wife, Rosemary sewed the pattern for the flexible surround out of mattress ticking. After proving his concept to himself, if not others, he and his student, Henry Kloss, proceeded to create their own company, Acoustic Research, in 1954. In 1966 AR’s loudspeaker sales represented almost one-third of the entire market. Not bad for a couple of tinkerers.
  11. Recognized as one of the notable, if somewhat underrated, voices from the early Motown era. Caroline Crawford - It Rains Because | Ted Waterhouse
  12. Today
  13. Funny you should say that, I’ve just played 2 different musicals on this, and a whole variety of different pub/function/wedding gigs - it’s a bass that fits in perfectly anywhere tbf. The weak point was the electronics - or more specifically the preamp, pickups were fine but single coils don’t work for me - once that’s addressed it’s a monster bass and I don’t think you’ll find a better jazz bass under a grand anywhere
  14. Hi....as it says....looking for info on this unit....which unfortunately has the label ripped off! 16. and ignored by eBay who state that AI and other automated mechanisms have determined the ad is OK :(
  17. Super easy BC deal, cheers Jim.
  18. I know more people who fix double basses afer I've damaged them than I do those who can sell high-end instruments such as this. Not much help, I know, but I'd sooner admit my ignorance than fire up the old bullshit generator ...
  19. I sometimes respond with "I don't know, so I'll just sod off then!".
  20. Hi, it’s around 9lbs, only have bathroom scales, kind regards, Steve
