10C? That's a barmy sunny day in North Yorkshire. It's currently hovering between 0C and 5C during the day. Little chance of getting to 10C outside for a few weeks I know you lot down in Somerset have a Caribbean climate all year round, but we don't. The reason we put ferrets down our trousers is to keep warm I'll put the holes and t-nuts in, glue the front and rear panels in, round the edges and wait for it to warm up before applying the Armacab. I suppose it'll give me time to get the other speaker cab done. Thanks Rob

Thanks for that ! 🙂 I did have a 5 string many moons ago , and hardly used it in rehearsals or a band situation. Of course I as told by all and sundry “ you don’t need a 5 string “😮💨 In one of the bands I was in , the 2 guitarists were putting hair bands on my bass for 2 or 3 songs ,giving a capo effect . I assume that if I had a 5 string or was confident enough to go BEAD everything would have been more immediate. On one occasion it was funny when one of the guitarists in one of the other bands heard me playing an open B on my 5 string “ what note is that ?” 😆 All this was in rock cover bands. The good thing I guess by lounging around at home , is that it’s either BEAD or EADG basses whatever mood I’m in 🙂

Can you post an example? Trilling to me would be repeatedly hammering on and pulling off (or on a bowed or wind instrument switching between two notes in the same stroke/blow), but that's different from vibrato?

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
BassAgent replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I have to correct myself. I just received new Hipshot lollipops for my old De Gier bass and two of them are broken. The slot for the allen key doesn't...fit? No allen key fits on 2 out of 5 tuners. The rest is fine. But two of them are not. -

Has anyone in UK bought a bass from Fender 'Mod Shop'?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Twigman's topic in Bass Guitars
I like the idea of the mod shop, but the options for hardware etc were far too restrictive for me. I found that (re)building my bitzer precision around a fender replacement neck allowed me to put together an instrument that has my favourite components. -

Headless/ fretless bass for less than £1k
Hellzero replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Bass Guitars
If you don't mind (that much) paying import taxes, there are quite often some second hand headless fretless basses on zikinf.com or bassic.de or mercatinomusicale.com ... -

Can only echo what FourOnTheFloor said above, these are absolutely banging pieces of kit. In addition to the points made above, the 4-band EQ is superb and allows you control over the mid range frequencies, same as you get in much pricier preamps, the combination of FET & "tube" works really well and the tilt control is incredibly useful for adjusting to the dynamics of a room. Great price as well.

I’m not sure about Armacab but the Tuffcab paint I’ve used needs a temperature greater than around 10 degrees in order to cure in a reasonable time. I have worked in the winter in my unheated open workshop but used a fan heater to help cure the paint. I’d agree use sacrificial bolts. Wait for the paint to go nearly but not completely dry before removing

Yes, with a side of it depends - if you can transpose as required, and don't rely on being able to hit open strings it works just fine. I played a 5 string in standard BEADG tuning in a band with guitars tuned to D standard for years.

No the Supro Chorus has no transformer. It does have a super analog warm type chorus sound complete with pure analog hiss. To be honest the hiss is not noticeable while playing but it ain't silent. Because it has two bucket brigade chips it produces a warm swirling sound if the dimension knob is used. Very 1980s.

I thought my GAS had gone with my EBMM Sterling 4HH but I am being tempted by Fender.... I was having a look at the Fender Custom Shop but I find it frustrating that there's no transparency on pricing and there doesn't seem to be any listed dealers in UK who would take my custom order. Then I discovered the Mod Shop. https://uk.fender.com/pages/fender-mod-shop Here you can configure an instrument from a priced menu and place the order online. Fender then build the bass you spec in Corona and ship it to you - it seems to be less than half the price of the custom shop albeit with fewer options. According to uk.Fender.com the prices posted on the website include UK VAT at 20% so there's no risk there. Has anyone here specced a MOD SHOP Fender? How was the experience?

JapanAxe started following Dingwall D-Roc Standard 4-string Gloss Metalflake Aquamarine

I bought this bass on here a couple of years ago - NBD thread is here and my initial comments still hold true. I have ended up playing it less than I thought because (1) 3 months later I bought an NG2, and (2) I have ended up on lead guitar in my glam rock project! For anyone unaware, the D-Roc is Dingwall's take on the Gibson Thunderbird bass, but with more flexible pickup options and no neck dive. The scale length ranges from 34in (G) to 37in (E). If you haven't tried a fan-fret before, be prepared to spend at least 15 seconds getting used to it! The electronics are passive and comprise of volume, pickup selector, and tone. This bass has a huge tonal range from the FD3-N Neodymium-magnet pickups but I feel like I want something a bit more conventional-looking for my non-Precision moments. This a bass that wants to be hit by stage lighting! Modifications The 'scratch plate' sticker has been removed. I have changed the tone cap from 47nF to 100nF for more range on the tone pot. I had a chicken-head knob on the pickup selector switch as it is easier to see/feel where it is (see last photo). I have returned it to stock but I am including the other knob - it is an easy swap, just pull it off (oh please!), no tools required. The bass comes with the originall Dingwall gig bag as pictured, and the Dunlop strap lock attachments to go on your strap - they plug into 2 metal sockets, one by the neck heel, the other in the middle of the back (hence it balances perfectly on a strap). It is currently strung with Elixir Nano Web Nickel Plated 045-105 Extra Long (set E14087) and there is a worn set of black Paysons in the gig bag for emergencies. Condition is as per the photos. There is a small unfilled hole on the back of the headstock where a D-tuner has been fitted by a previous owner. Weight 3.8kg (8lb 6oz). Neck width 43mm at the nut, 56mm at the 12th fret (both measured straight across the neck from the treble side). I'm looking for £1,150 on collection or meet-up. I can travel a reasonable distance from Swindon if it helps, just PM me to discuss. If you prefer to buy new, go to Bass Direct and hand over another £600 in their sale... Trades Fender (or possibly Squier) Jazz. I do have very specific requirements and unreasonable dislikes, but by all means hit me up!

How’s that super sound. Is it transformer based like some of their drive units?
