  2. As long as the crowd are dancing/cheering/singing along/not killing each other does it matter ?
  3. Think of the amount of punters that have gone home totally unimpressed 😂
  4. Finally got to my bass tonight to have a crack at this. I can see how someone might assume it's an A, but G# is clearly right and sounds better to me. The verse is in a major key, and the turnaround bits use a minor third, but you can play a minor third over certain major chords, and vice versa. Otis Redding version is essentially the same.
  5. I've always played the intro along with the guitarist (multiple bands), same notes going up as going down.

  7. A really pointless one but I have 2 settings I like on the Deco. I’m not a huge fan of the saturation, it’s nice but everything on my board is Saturation so it’s just redundant but the modulation is a really nice subtle doubler that gives a nice space to things, or this really musical pitchy warble. Anyway, I tried to recreate it in something cheaper. I’m very concerned that I’ll be able to recreate my whole board in a pedal I bought for £65 😅
  8. Yes, they are made of unicorn intestines, hand wound by Bavarian nuns, high in the alps. I think they were originally aimed at pro level classical soloists playing basses that cost £50k+ . A louder and more projecting sound than eudoxas. Not sure about pro double bass players these days, but cellists seem to have given up on them and switched to steel and tungsten ( Larsen and thomastik) which are cheaper, stay in tune and last forever... and sound very good. Even pirastro recommend using Eva Ps for the A and E rather than olives across the board.
  9. If the turning the volume knob makes a difference (albeit temporarily) then some contact cleaner in that potentiometer would be my first port of call.
  10. I won't be gigging for a while. Turns out I broke my ankle. I'm scheduled for surgery Friday morning. Not fun. Daryl
  11. I remember when A-Ha broke through with the re-release of "Take On Me". Something about the quality of the song writing combined with Morten Harket's singing just elevated them above their peers, and what an iconic video. That vocal climax in "Take On Me", starting with "I'll be gone..." still raises the hairs on the back of my neck.
  12. 😂😂😂. Personally I dislike playing through a pa only as I want the sound of my bass to be near me and come from close to where the bass is. When PA is a must I still use my little pjb combo and di out of that. Realist pickup, rarely have feedback issues....then again pub &club not stadium volumes.
  13. It’s great to see the love for these basses throughout this thread. I was in the music shop today, in a glum mood, pouring rain outside, and spotted an 80s Encore P Bass on the wall - Pearl with White pickups. It was the cheapest bass in the shop, and I had only heard that these guitars were firewood. I really liked the vibe of it though so got them to take it down. Well, I was playing for the rest of the afternoon! Absolutely loved it. This one had great action, a nice feeling neck. Hard to really name the tones, as I was plugged into a Blackstar bass combo, which I absolutely despise, but the bass was a joy to play. It even slapped brilliantly for a P-Bass, and there was no way I was not gonna take it home. Now and then you play a guitar which you just know is for you, and this was one of those. I have a Vintera Precision which I like well enough, but I just know Im gonna be picking this bass up all the time at home. It remains to be seen if it can do a gig, as Ive generally found that once a cheap bass is plugged into a cranked up amp, the weaknesses really show up. I don’t care about that though, cos I love it, and I never part with guitars I love - only the ones I bought cos others said they were great or the specs said they were great. A guitar you cant stop picking up IS great imo!
  14. I love that 800rb. Daryl

  17. Assuming Sod All = F-ck All There are two solutions, when sod-all = 0 or sod-all = 4 assuming the above. We would need to define f-ck all more accurately here in terms of sod-all to get the right answer. Rob

  20. And so… I tried a different Allen key and it worked will all grub screws on all saddles. That’s good, but it’s also pretty bad 😅 The “tolerance” of the provided key and that of the screws is probably a recipe for shearing those screws on a brand new bass.
  21. Comparison of various Octavers An early Cog T-16 Sonicake Octaver MXR Bass Octaver Deluxe Pearl OC07 Zoom MS60b Bass Octaver Zoom MS60b+ Analog Bass Octaver My thoughts. For those that don’t know the Pearl OC07 is the original Jojo Mayer Nerve octaver. It sounds identical (as these old pedals can) to a Boss OC2. The Sonicake Octaver is an OC2 clone. When I compared it to an OC2 I couldn’t hear the difference and once again here, not trying to destroy the resale of my pedals I can’t hear it either. The Cog is quite unique sounding compared to everything else and has to be felt to be believed. The MXR is the most versatile but the so are both of the Zooms. It has some noise when idling but doesn’t appear to come across in the videos (at least until I add layers and layers of gain) Once you put these in a synth chain most of the differences disappear. I’ll be keeping the Sonicake (because they are so cheap they aren’t worth selling), probably the MXR as I find it the most musical and varied and then both Zooms because the MS60b isn’t worth very much and the MS60b+ is really really impressive. If I was playing a lot of synth focused music, I’d keep the Cog and have it next to a Sonicake or MXR Vintage Bass Octaver and then the MXR BOD if I was doing any blended with clean stuff. Anyway, enjoy
