  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks! That's a fair bit closer than Derbyshire!
  3. Why downgrade?
  4. Set of four Schaller nickel tuners, brilliantly lightly reliced by our own d_g. Look fantastic and work perfectly. 4 in line. £80 delivered to UK.
  5. Damn I really wish you were closer... I too had a Tech Soundsystems 4x12. A religious experience when cranked!
  6. For me, on my fretless Jazz basses, I use Rotosound Swing 66 Nickel rounds with the lightest gauge possible. They are the best sounding strings I have ever used on a fretless. On a P-Bass, then I use Labella Deep Talkin flats and again, the lightest gauge possible. I find flats give more of that mwah sound and more pronounced vibrato. The lighter the gauge as well, the more expressive and articulate I find the bass is.
  7. I think 200 fretted and 150 fretless were made. Could be wrong! Could foresight to remove the scratch plate early on as I've seen some that had the plate removed after a few years and you can clearly see the outline from sun bleaching. This looks very clean. 👍
  8. I like the idea of a swap shop. Can I swap my cheap Ibanez GIO ultra shortscale for for a 62 Jazz please?
  9. I'm aware of the great reputation of previous roadworn series' but I do have to wonder about the pricing strategy? Perhaps it is just my dated perception with regard to associating quality with country of manufacture, but for this price range you're easily within the territory of MIJ Fender/Fender-shaped-object, and getting pretty close to Maruszczyk or Sandberg. Resale value notwithstanding, personally I would rather spend my £1400 on a more 'premium' instrument but is this an apples to oranges comparison?
  10. Thank you for sharing this, I've never seen that before. Its interesting that John mentions that he suffered quite a lot with dead spots of fretless basses. This is something I've suffered with a lot as well, especially on Stingray's. I've actually found setting up fretless basses way more temperamental than a fretted bass.
  11. My duo do Gangsters by the Specials '79 I don't like Mondays '79 The one and only Chesney Hawkes '91 IIRC a little artistic licence lol
  12. AKA "The Raffle"
  13. It appears that they are circuits from a SoundCraft PA unit and a StudioSpares Fortissimo 10" unit. I didn't use them because it was the driver that was broken in my PA top, not the crossover as I thought. They came from @Mottlefeeder in 2022 - no doubt he will avoid me all bash in case I try to give them back to him 😉
  14. John Giblin is probably my favourite fretless bassist and a huge influence on my playing, closely followed by Pino. Pino I feel has possibly a slightly better fretless voice but John Giblin has more melody which to me is more interesting. I also got to play a few of John's basses including this lovely fretless P-Bass.
  15. I'd recommend @tommyjamesallen in Bath. Fantastic work and really good prices. As for Bassbags, tis a shame.
  16. Deposit Paid, off to Andersons today , Just in case they manage to get these amps in as listed on time. I have to mention, this is NOT normal for me . I seldom buy new ('cos I love old valve amps ), But the confidence inspired by "Agedhorse's " helpful and informative attitude, and the design remit , that so reflects my requirements, Simply too hard to resist ! I have every confidence it will sound Fabulous. PLUS What a Looker ! Classic !
  17. The crossover might be of interest as I need to do an autopsy on my dead Headrush FR-112 and see what I can replace or salvage. Perhaps I'll do an autopsy thread for it, an anti-build thread
  18. Someone please buy this bass. You’re getting a hell of a lot for not much money.
  19. Now that's a great idea for something new at the Bass Bash "Swap Shop Table".
  20. What I love about these Mk I versions is that, at the flick of the impedance switch, you get the full 500w into 8ohms. No need for an extension cab. Plus, they sound really good. Like....*really* good.
  21. Looks like the original version which sounds a fair bit nicer than the more recent Mk3/Mk4 models!
  22. It's a shame after I committed to a rehearsal & blew out a gig on that date & the rest of the band loved my playing (as did you) that you decided to go in a different direction. I note that you appear to have struggled with particualarly bass players since.
  23. I'd say that one is bookmatched... it's just the peculiarities of how the wood has taken stain/reflects the light. But I agree, if you can get a bookmatch on a Sire or even a sub-£200 Harley Benton, PRS should be able to manage it.
  24. Oh. This is tempting.
  25. I think the Osmo Polyx products are absolutely splendid - but I have limited experience with their gloss formulas. All of that range is super-easy to apply and, in that you can always sand it off and start again if it doesn't suit, then probably worth a try. My reservations are that it depends just how hard the gloss version finally sets at. It is a modified-wax based product but, if you saw some of my satin results and tapped the finish as hard as you like with your fingernails, you generally would never think that. And bear in mind it is sold primarily for the rigours of home and commercial parquet and wooden floors. But whether the gloss version 'drags' on the fingers I really don't know. But - a small tin is cheap as chips and one of the easiest finishes to apply. It needs just a clean lint-free cloth and rubber gloves (just to keep the stickiness off your hands - trying to wash a waterproof coating off your hands is always a challenge ) and is pretty much fumeless - probably worth a try. If you do, my recommendation would be a single wipe, leave it overnight, another one, etc, and then leave it at least 2 weeks to really fully harden.
