  2. There's a link with why Witon's on the Joni tracks isn't there (other than shear class)...wasn't Max Bennett one of her affairs?
  3. Great set up. Ran exactly the same rig for a few years pre covid. GLWTS

  5. I have tried them all. Best solution, in my view, and it's not close, is the JamOrigin MIDI Guitar / MIDI Bass Solution WITH a hexaphonic pick up (it works well without, too, but if you are doing chordal work the hexaphonic makes an enormous difference). If you want something to be used without a laptop, a GK-3B + GR-20 will do. All that said, I do not think it is entirely true to say that pitch to midi is a complete non-starter. But you do have to play differently – for example, if you are playing a bass synth line with a fast attack sound, then you'd be advised to play that one (or even two, if possible) octaves up. it's a world of trade offs. It can work, but you need to be aware that it is a different animal. Here is an example from a few months ago, with the much worse MIDI Guitar 2.
  6. I would say contrary to above that if you want something to put into a daw, there is no harm playing it on the bass and then doing the pitch to note conversion afterwards, because latency then doesn't matter, and you can manually tidy it up afterwards as there are no real time constraints. There is no harm using midi bass live if the latency isn't an issue ie, you are not playing fast lines or you can preplay which is fairly easy, or you are using slow synth sounds such as pads for sweeping notes. For any kind of fast stuff, it doesn't really make any sense as it is far easier to use a keyboard.
  7. Franz Ferdinand do what I suspect is put fabric covers over road cases. Sorry that they don't work for you, but please don't try and tell those of us who are doing it that it can't be done. It's possible to create excellent stage sound using a variety of approaches. Those 'farty' frfr cabs are the same ones that do mains pa duties on thousands of stages across the world.
  8. Bought a lovely vintage modified P from him. Effortless transaction, deal with confidence.
  9. Final sale of my five stringers. Super bass, comfy to play and looks a stunner. 35" scale approx 4kilos 17.5mm spacing at bridge Fitted with straplocks Comes with Modulus case as shown Fingerboard fairly flat. Built in 1995 Notes:- Retro fitted with Bartolini passive soap bar pickup by Guitar Mania of Poole. The original EMG pickup and complete pre amp and wiring loom are also supplied to return the bass to factory specs. There is a 1mm deep chip in the outer neck finishing layer (which I didn't notice until after two years of ownership). See photos, it's at the first fret and is not felt whilst playing. I've had this bass for twelve years and the neck is as stable as you would expect it to be. Collection from Bournemouth or meet up within reasonable distance is preferable. No sound clips, sorry. Let me know if you need any further info. Cheers, Graham
  10. What @pineweasel said.
  11. Thanks Chiliwaller, yes I've just found out that a couple of the knurled bolts don't fit. They go in about a third of the way and then get stuck, so anyway, it looks very original with the mutes and the red/brown washers and the Alun key bolts anyway. All good info
  12. I willl also say that I have now noticed that in 8 years of gigging I have had 3 sets of comments about my basses 1) Does your bass have 5 strings? How does that work then - had that twice 2) Is that a bongo bass (it was the wrongo, ironically not mentioned since i had a real bongo) - once 3) Oh thats a fancy bass - it was my checkerboard fireman bass - once 4) Oh your playing a rickenbacker, they sound so good - now at 7 times, including 2 at the day gig. I have had the rick since december. In fact, there have now been only 4 or 5 gigs with the ric when noone commented about it
  13. I really like the powder/baby blue that the Sire MMalike basses come in. Purple would also look great.
  14. That’s normal for the older Fender shaped T models. The redesign moved the battery box to behind the lower horn. That happened in 2015, I think. Here’s an example of the old model: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/sandberg-california-jm4-green-metallic-2009-pre-owned/
  15. Yes, Monza plus Bugera and at times the Sansamp patch on my Zoom B6.
  16. My first gig with the Fortunate Sons and with a neat twist of fate at my 'home venue' of Penarth Ex's. It was also bass player Andy's first gig on keyboards... he did brilliantly and being a bassist he kept out of my octaves Long story short, we had a very good attendance, I made a few flubs - came in late for one song, first bar in wrong key for another and huge random bang in My Sharona... but no-one seemed to notice, so and and audience very happy. No photos yet. Fender Precision & Jazz, quecha approach shoes, GRBASS cab and orange terror.
  17. This is an amazing bass and is in stunning condition for a 1983 made instrument. I have recently aquired it but have decided to sell now as I bought as an investment but I will gig the hell out of her and wreck any chance of long term profit. The bass plays beautifully and sounds amazing and would be my number one but tbh, I've not got a good track record of keeping basses in such pristine condition. My other two basses are both road worn at best!! All original apart from the replacement pickguard but the original is incuded in the sale. Comes with a foam hard case but will need collecting from South Wales. If she doesn't sell at this price I'm going to keep her and gig her as my main bass and the fact that she will be far from showrrom condition in 5 years will be ok!! Any tryouts aremost welcome. This is the best Precision I've played and this isn't a sales pitch. I'll give it a week and if not sold, she's out on the road!! Many thanks, Dave.

  18. Actually - just remembered, for anyone interested their new site is easier for orders - https://pickguardheaven.com
  19. Pitch to MIDI for the bass is a complete non-starter. The very best systems combined with the cleanest playing technique require a MINIMUM one and a half cycles to detect the pitch of the note played. That means that any note lower than E on the 9th fret of the G string on a bass will take at least 10ms to detect, 10ms being generally the point at which most musicians start to find latency intrusive and off-putting. And this is under perfect conditions using the best pitch detection systems and an exceptionally clean playing technique. Most older and budget systems (like the G2M) are much worse for latency. On top of that you can add another couple of milliseconds for that pitch to be processed and turned into MIDI information. Even with a piccolo set of strings it rules out anything below the 7th fret of the A string. You either need an instrument that uses fret sensing to detect the pitch or something like the Roland V-bass system to uses modelling to modify the waveforms produced by the strings if you want to use synth sounds from a stringed instrument in a live situation. If you want something for programming your DAW you are better off using a keyboard. If you want to retain the feel you get from playing the part on a bass or guitar, program the line into your DAW and then record the audio from your bass and use a beat slicing tool to make a groove template for the quantisation.
  20. Yeah , too much hassle for what it’s worth . I’ll leave it 😼👍 Thanks for confirming . It can get very expensive , and tbh my time would be spent better trying to learn the stuff I already have etc
  21. Not wrong. Feel the love people!
  22. Just in case you didn’t know, the hex parts are likely original to the bass - in ‘95 most Rays were shipped without the mute kit, this may be because the ‘Flea bridge’ introduce in around ‘94 changed the string placement, and they no longer sat in the middle of the mute on all strings. BTW - if you want to get an original style matt pickguard, Planet Pickguard in the States made the originals and still make them to order - about £55 landed I think.
  23. That's my afternoon sorted! Thank you. I do love Badfinger but I have to be in the right frame of mind, it's all just so heartbreaking.
  24. Welcome to BC; if I have one piece of advice it's this: stay away from the sales section for the sake of your wallet.
  25. Actually probably one of the reasons I wasn't so keen on the outdoor gig is that I didn't have IEMs, it wasn't as much fun
  26. Ok, I'll bring a Decision P4 and a Mercalli 5
