Is this difficult to play? Is it unnecessarily complicated?
itu replied to bass_dinger's topic in Theory and Technique
First impressions without trying to play it through. 1) What's the tempo? 2) Is there some pattern that repeats itself over the parts? I am not able to see anything like that, yet, but most likely I should play it through first. 3) Done by a machine (see the first notes in bar 15)? How does it sound straight from the computer? 4) What kind of band is playing? Is it even possible to go up high if there are keys close by? Soundwise it may be feasible to stay in the half and first position. 5) I think (this is my very biased opinion) that bass should be rhythmic instrument in modern music. Compared to say baroque music I believe melodic content was more important then than rhythmic if we look at older and today's music. Therefore many melodic jumps seen in the score might be possible to "reduce" to smaller intervals without "reducing" rhythmic content. Ghost notes should not be forgotten. Wishing to see comments from the pros here, like TKenrick, Bilbo, Tom Read, Chris Dev, et al. -

You were probably at Goldsmiths around the same time as my younger brother. My brother loved his time there with LC. A friend of my mine was also teaching Bass there at the time, John Deemer. -

This bassline was created by software, to go over the chords to "Oh little town of Bethlehem". The Musical Director selected "funky R&B" (or somesuch) as the option for the bass style. Is this difficult to play for a competent reader (which I am not)? Is it unnecessarily complicated? I am struggling with it, and will probably simplify it. Does anyone have any hints or tips, to help me to create a funky yet playable line.

I had a chat with the man today. I forgot to ask him about the decal but the bbot bridge reflects how it was originally. I had a quick noodle on it. It definitely wasn’t a lightweight but it felt incredibly resonant I have to say. -

Just thought I would add to the thread with this Ken Taylor 5 that I bought last year. I got it new from BAX for an absolute steal, prior to them going bump. It's not fashionably light (9.5lbs), but I'm not too bothered - (it's much lighter than my 6 & 7 strings!!) The main thing is it sounds absolutely immense, love the growl of the humbuckers, the EQ and blend can get a great variety of tones, and almost plays itself. Build quality is as good as anything else I've played.

None, but I avoid 2.4GHz like the plague for mission-critical applications. This would not interfere with anything, but the 2.4GHz carrier might. -

This controller is sold with slight cosmetic variation by many vendors, as well as being sold as an IEM by various companies, most notably Chauvet Obey 40. In fact, I have just downloaded the Chauvet Obey 40 Manual and used it to programme mine. . I bought mine for about £20 S/H.

The Micromix 1 USB is a two channel mixer running from a 5 volt supply. Both channels have gain, volume, treble, bass and pan, but one has variable input gain, and the other has switched gain, and a HiZ function for instruments. It can be powered from a phone charger for stand alone use, or powered from a USB socket on a computer, where it can also be used as a recording interface. If you are interested in IEM's, this unit can mix your bass on one channel with an Aux-out feed from your mixer into the second channel. If you want to try an ambience mic to pick up stage sound, the package includes a basic but serviceable Maplin / Tandy electret microphone. If you want to set up a youngster with a basic recording system, I will also include an instrument lead. Price includes postage within UK mainland. David
