Yup, I’m in that camp too. I’ve been more than satisfied with all the lightweight amps & cabs I’ve had but whenever I’ve used a bit of old heavy gear there’s just been something “more” to the sound and the feel of the sound on stage. Especially if it’s a big stage.

Worth looking at whether all the sockets are on the same ring and seeing if you can plug into one set of sockets; obviously being aware of the load placed on the socket.

that is sad to hear, he was on so many great records including this own releases

Hum is almost always caused by grounding/earthing issues with the wiring and there's seldom anything you can do about it.

I still have a long term plan to spec an SB-1. I hope I'll still be able to when I'm in a position to do so.

There's some big changes happening in the musical instrument manufacturing world right now as a result of all this tariff f**kery. You're going to be seeing a lot more US brands opening factories in other countries. Many US brands already have manufacturing in other places, but do all their distribution from the US, ie, the outsourced instruments are shipped to a US-based logistics hub for worldwide distribution) - that's going to be changing too. And yes, I have insider info on this.

I fully agree. Doesn‘t help that there’s less contours and the edges are less radiused / more angular than on ABs. I‘d be pleasantly surprised if these were revealed to be hollow builds weighing in at 2.x kg - otherwise, I don’t really see a reason why these exist, except everyone and their mum urging Dingwall to come out with a headless.

That would be a dream scenario, but I expect that in the current economic climate and, let us say, governmental unpredictability in the USA I doubt that EBMM would be likely make that kind of a committment. . The tragedy is that G&L have got terrific products, a great heritage and so much to offer to the marketplace. Once any company gets a reputation for sub-standard quality it's a long way back to regain their reputation. As you pointed out Russ, G&L used to be a byword for build quality and solid, reliable instruments.

Even if it's easy to accidentally release them? I don't know whether it is or not, I'd like to find out. Not that I want one, I've found that I prefer parallel-fret basses.

Ibanez LACS. Anyone got any hands on experience with one?
binky_bass replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
The LACS I ended up with has a mere 11mm (ish) spacing. For babies maybe?? 🤔 Horror I know! This is Sam Totman's (from Dragonforce) LACS Iceman... Well, it's mine now. 👍 -
Been getting hum through the PA speakers (RCF 932 and previously 912s) at certain venues. Assuming it's down to the electrical interference from the wiring. Is there anything that can be done to minimise?

Kev started following Sterling Bongo...worth the wait?
-
Apparently these started shipping last week. Only one review so far though... Uninspiring sound, not Bongo or really Music Man. Looks fantastic though, and £899 at GuitarGuitar.

My mate has 4 of these to put around the band, he's using an cheap keyboard case to transport all 4, but agrees it's not particularly protective. I would have thought a pole bag with as many slots as you need could work and not break the bank?

It's been a minute, sorry. I dug up a transcription I did years ago of John Patitucci demonstrating walking bass on Stella by Starlight and synced it with the clip. Some very useful vocabulary in there that can be stolen for your own purposes: You can download the transcription PDF here: John Patitucci - Stella by Starlight
