“Rush” UK Tour March 2027
Bassassin replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
If you're a fan of long-standing you'll know the first album is considered by many fans to not be 'proper' Rush - and not just because it's little more than slavish Led Zep fan service. In the same sense the Lee/Lifeson/Milles/whoever the keyboard guy is lineup's also not 'proper' Rush. I probably said this in the last thread but I'd have a lot more respect for them if they'd gone out as 'Geddy, Alex & Friends Perform The Music Of Rush'. This just feels horribly cynical - they spent their whole career against the grain, refusing to compromise or take the easy path, always making the music that they wanted to make, whether or not it alienated fans, freaked out the record label suits or felt like a weird, naive mistake in retrospect. They always seemed resolutely Not For Sale. I'm now wondering how much of that artistic bloodymindedness was down to Peart? -

I'm asking this not to be a smart arse but wouldn't another Stingray from the same era suffice? It's a real long shot but with today's social media presence you never know ☺️

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09L7F73YC Just check the right version for the earpieces you have (SF1 for the KZ earpieces). I went for large figuring I wanted the foam to be a tight fit in my ears. They feel a little bit like dough but are fine once they are in, and critically stay in.

Got to say, if you post on a forum asking for opinions you’ll get them, and in this case I think it’s totally fair.

Thanks to you too for your out of context comment, but indeed it's a wonderful comment, thanks again. So keep doing the ostrich and never give a true answer to anyone, lying is so convenient. He could have asked for advice first, but no, he did the opposite, so he must be prepared for the plain truth. Sorry for you, but I never lie, it's a waste of time and energy.

WOW! I've just listened to Ian Martin Allison's of the pedal and I didn't realise he had a hand in the presets including coming up with a very good 'Sledgehammer' preset, but the other stuff in there is incredible. Well, I need to try one although I'm not sure I can justify £289 on one sound. That said, Charlie Chandler's are selling a Boss OC-2 OctaveR for £249 and Broughctave are close to that sum used, if you can find one. However, @Sibob makes a good point about the chips and country of manufacture. If it sounds right, meets your needs and feels good under fingers, then that's the one for you. Thanks everyone

Storing a neck that is not attached to the bass
Andyjr1515 replied to Jeffskowski's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yup - if it was fitted then I would agree. But I think at the beginning @Jeffskowski is talking about storing the unfitted neck? -
Part of me wants to go but, ticket price aside, I have to get there (Glasgow), it will entail an overnight stay, etc - in short, very expensive. Ged’s voice probably won’t be great (despite recent coaching) and, not detracting from Annika’s massive talent, Neil won’t be there. I’m massively torn.

I crossed out the word "only". "Only 15" suggests that handling teen offspring is a walk in the park. Heeheehee. My best wishes to you in particular then.

Have you had a look through the Tutors available section? it might be worth posting a request there, I see a couple of North-west based listings, definitely worth going past the first couple of pages as well. https://www.basschat.co.uk/forum/26-tutors-available/ Matt -

Hi all, I finally took the plunge and bought the Colour box v2 (got the 10-year anniversary one with the Neve style colour scheme). I use a Stomp for my tone shaping & effects, but wanted a DI box that added some subtle warmth/fatness. After looking for ages I pulled the trigger on the Colour box and am thoroughly enjoying it. The EQ is very musical, even with extreme cuts/boosts. It's quite nice having easy to use controls to tweak on the fly. The 2 transformers combine to give a subtle but pleasing 'warmth' to the sound. It also sounds slightly compressed - but maybe this is just the EQ colouration. The high pass might be useful in some cases, but doesn't go low enough for bass guitar unless you add some boost at the same frequency. I'm guessing this is more useful for other instruments. The console style distortion is best avoided in my opinion - I'm staying in the clean but warm lane It's quite a large pedal - just squeezes onto my new small board - but it looks the business, particularly in the Neve-inspired livery. The white LED is eye-searingly bright. I am experimenting with tape/cupboard bumpers/stickers to save my poor eyes. I thought that I would share this in case anyone was also in the hunt for something to put at the end of the chain as an alternative offering. I know there are some really nice valve DIs / pres (Sushibox Finally , Noble, new Khan mini, Jad Freer Luce etc), but I've always enjoyed the sound of a direct bass straight into a nice vintage console. (I'm also a pessimist - I know pre-amp valves last a long time, but transformers last even longer!) As always, your mileage may vary. This is just an opinion. I haven't even used it in anger yet - just at home, so I guess this is even less useful than normal! Bad photo attached as I know it's bad form to post without pics. (The mini-tuner is because our church meets in a lively acoustic, with band setup in front of the speakers meaning that I can't always hear my bass clearly over the subwoofer mush, and so knowing if the fretless is in tune is rather useful.) Let the flaming commence...! Phil

If you were starting today, what’s the best way to learn?
Dad3353 replied to Useless Eustace's topic in General Discussion
Firstly, no, we're not saying 'Teacher only', simply that it's by far the best method for each individual, especially when starting out from scratch. Once some of the basics are in place, there are many on-line courses, or excellent method books, in all sorts of styles for all sorts of players (from beginner to virtuose, and everywhere in between...). There are, however, those very important steps that have so many pitfalls, whereby one takes on, unwittingly, bad habits, which can be long, difficult, and sometimes impossible to rectify. Getting off to a Good Start is more important, I'd suggest, than anything else, and need not take long, nor be costly. One thing a face-to-face lesson can do, that no book nor screen can do, is correct issues immediately, before they become Issues. Stupidly simple stuff, such as Posture, height of strap, choice of fingering and position, breathing, keeping in time, with a regular tempo, at the right speed (neither too slow nor too fast...) and much, much more. Once these fundamentals are acquired, there is a whole lifetime of honing one's skills, choosing songs to play, learning to play with others, recording, at home or 'out', enjoying a new style etc... I'm not saying that either of the courses mentioned are not worth their cost (there are many others, too...); just that none can see what you're doing (right or wrong...) from the very first moment. As early as possible, find a Bass tutor and take at least an introductory lesson, explaining what it is you wish to achieve with your bass journey, and take from there. He/she will also have tuition material for practicing, and will be able to advise on other courses, too. That's my opinion; others may offer different advice. Edit : Just to say that Google search algorithms are not constructed to produce the best 'quality' at the top of their results, but the most commercially interesting for themselves. To be kept in mind at each Search, I suggest. - Today

Anyone know what brand the Bass is plus the guitars if known A friend genuinely asked me if I knew and I don't have clue, so anyone shed any light on it .? All I know is the photo was taken between 1965 a 1968 in Eastwood Notts so I'm lead to believe although the year is not 100%.
