  3. There are some very talented upright and fretless players out there, but few if any could bring the magic that he bought. I remember the first time I heard him play, with Martyn, it was a definitive moment at which something inside me changed forever. I didn't especially like the music to be honest, but was completely drawn in by the magical sound. It was hypnotic. RIP Danny, you will be remembered by many and missed by many, but what a life and what a contribution ❤️
  4. Does anybody know if the bolt-on Yamaha BBVI has the same pickups as the through neck BB1200? I'm really taken with the idea of a BB1200 but the weight of them (and the price now) makes it a no go for me unfortunately. I'm wondering if the cheaper and a bit lighter BBVI would be a good buy instead? Thoughts appreciated...
  5. I have an Epiphone Embassy which I really like the sound of..
  6. Yup, I’m in that camp too. I’ve been more than satisfied with all the lightweight amps & cabs I’ve had but whenever I’ve used a bit of old heavy gear there’s just been something “more” to the sound and the feel of the sound on stage. Especially if it’s a big stage.
  7. Worth looking at whether all the sockets are on the same ring and seeing if you can plug into one set of sockets; obviously being aware of the load placed on the socket.
  8. that is sad to hear, he was on so many great records including this own releases

  12. Hum is almost always caused by grounding/earthing issues with the wiring and there's seldom anything you can do about it.
  13. I still have a long term plan to spec an SB-1. I hope I'll still be able to when I'm in a position to do so.
  14. Gotta love a USA Sterling, a better all rounder than a stingray in my humble opinion.
  15. I now have said 12 string and this is now £400.
  16. I should add, I've a u bass on the way, hopefully arriving Monday, once it's in good nick, I'm happy to make arrangements with you, as long as your ok with that
  17. Undercoat on. Looks like an X-Box.
  18. Hey are they still available? Would you mind posting to Dublin?
  19. There's some big changes happening in the musical instrument manufacturing world right now as a result of all this tariff f**kery. You're going to be seeing a lot more US brands opening factories in other countries. Many US brands already have manufacturing in other places, but do all their distribution from the US, ie, the outsourced instruments are shipped to a US-based logistics hub for worldwide distribution) - that's going to be changing too. And yes, I have insider info on this.

  21. I fully agree. Doesn‘t help that there’s less contours and the edges are less radiused / more angular than on ABs. I‘d be pleasantly surprised if these were revealed to be hollow builds weighing in at 2.x kg - otherwise, I don’t really see a reason why these exist, except everyone and their mum urging Dingwall to come out with a headless.
  22. That would be a dream scenario, but I expect that in the current economic climate and, let us say, governmental unpredictability in the USA I doubt that EBMM would be likely make that kind of a committment. . The tragedy is that G&L have got terrific products, a great heritage and so much to offer to the marketplace. Once any company gets a reputation for sub-standard quality it's a long way back to regain their reputation. As you pointed out Russ, G&L used to be a byword for build quality and solid, reliable instruments.
  23. Even if it's easy to accidentally release them? I don't know whether it is or not, I'd like to find out. Not that I want one, I've found that I prefer parallel-fret basses.
