  1. Past hour
  2. Kiwi, sorry to bug you when there's so much to be done. Can I please ask why these ones have wooden boards and not the peek of the other necks? Would it be best to have a central discussion thread for all of these questions, and then keep the separate threads just for ordering? I wonder if you've already answered the above somewhere where I can't see it and I'm sure none of us want to waste your time answering.
  3. Good luck Andy and well done. When the faff outweighs the fun it's no longer worth your time. Enjoy your new venture. It's actually gift to find yourself in a position where you can play whatever you want whenever you want, plus you don't really need much gear to enjoy simply playing music. Lose the baggage 👍 (Regarding singing - I hear you! I have a plan to get a couple of singing lessons with a good teacher to at least find where my voice sits and how to engage it correctly. How to warm up etc.. It's never too late, keep on growing).
  4. That would be potentially very interesting. Pickups are one of those areas that are going to be an awful lot more complex than at first sight... "yeah well it's just a magnet with some wire innit?", I doubt that somehow Would it be worth re-approaching these chaps much closer to the time?
  5. I hadn't spotted that Andy, right at the very bottom of the page! I know I'll have to try one of these out as soon as I can. Rob
  6. Just testing a nice little update today…
  7. brave decision …. Just counting down to the sellers remorse thread …. 🙂
  8. My Markbass combo has top mounted controls, but I don't find it bothersome - mostly because it's stacked on top of a New York 121, so the controls are elevated to easily used territory - high enough so I don't have to bend down but not so high that I can't see the controls. But my rig is sitting flat on the deck, so I'm clearly from an irrelevant, bygone era
  9. Sorry to hear you're out of love with the band, Andy. I guess I'm in a lucky position where I get to work with lots of people, but I can't afford to play for nothing with people I don't want to be with. I feel for you and hope you'll find some great, like minded folks to make some great music with soon.
  10. Hi Peter, sorry for the late response, @Lozz196 sorted me out with one!
  11. Why do amp manufacturers still put the controls on the top of combos? It's not the 50 and 60s any more. No-one (not even tribute bands of artists from that era) puts their amps on the floor and then stands behind them. The position of the controls should reflect how the amps are used in the real world today (on stands and normally angled upwards) and not reflect some bygone era that is now irrelevant.
  12. Where? Love these!
  13. It’ll be brilliant fun. There are lots of great books on jazz improvisation. I’d also recommend ready a music theory book or two if you have access to one to brush up on some of the fundamentals. I’ll see if I have a spare one somewhere.
  14. The one in The Gallery is a nice thing. I tried it the other day. Thin neck, nice tone, looks the part. My reservation is that I think it might be a bit pricey for what it is. But I guess the gallery has overheads that we don't. Your shortscale will undoubtedly be nicer to play, and what with these both being quite 'thumpy' semi acoustic basses, I doubt the scale length will make any real diff to the tone. GLWTS!
  15. Today
  16. everything has a price it will sell at, value might be a chunk less than you think it is… If you asked nice Andy might let you upgrade and swap it for a couple of well looked after Solokings ?
  17. For sale in very good used condition my 1000watt neo 4x8 cab. It's weighs in at around 22kg single hand lift and carry (if not too far)! Super punchy cab and seems to naturally sit in the mix easier than many cabs I've used. The only flaw is the speakon input isn't working but both jack sockets are. Its 8 ohm so can be coupled with a 15 for a lovely full range sound. I have used it with my ashdown 2x10 combo which made a great rig. Hartke amp is for size ref only although is for sale separately (deal to be done)?? Postage is possible if sorted by the buyer. Robust packaging assured. Cheers

  18. @BassAdder60 - that's a shame. I thought they looked decent - especially the Lionheart head. My Digbeth is a solid thing. Though the external transformer for the Ironheart Foundry doesn't seem like a great idea. Those flimsy cables are always the first to break. I don't remember ever having a broken kettle lead!
  19. This happened to a mate of mine with his white, 80s Les Paul deluxe. He was doing Björn Again in front of 10,000 people. Raised his arms and the crowd went “YAAAAAAAY!” guitar falls to the floor and they all go “OOOOOHHHHH!” - a real Wayne’s World moment.
  20. I am proud of this one. The complete Anthony Jackson performance on the tune '11:49 p.m.' from the 2012 Hiromi Trio Project album, 'Move'. One to read before you try to play! it has a long section in 5:8 that is not something you see very often, certain not for prolonged sections of improvisation, so it will test you, especially as the note groupings AJ uses are not consistent. There is also a unison section (also in 5:8) that will break a few bones! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/11-49-p-m-hiromi-uehara-trio-project/
  21. Hi Pete unfortunately no! The shape was easy enough to do on my spindle sander but anything more complex I would struggle! I recommend earlpilanz on eBay for custom work, he's the best
  22. Thanks, I've just signed up! I'm a bit nervous about this - it's way outside my comfort zone but I'm determined to get my head around the more theoretical side of music and hopefully it'll take my reading skills to the next level.
  23. Maybe, Maybe - a-ha
