No personal experience with this one, sorry, but it does come highly regarded especially with the latest firmware upgrade. Modal have had their share of quirkiness and bugs, but I get the feeling this one is among their best in those respects. Are you only looking at wavetable synths, or is this more a matter of price point and similar? From the corporate mumbo jumbo, I can't make out whether it lets you make your own waveforms. If it doesn't, it's just a "synth with wavetables" as a competitor honestly called its machine. To me personally, it'd be on my shortlist even if it appears to be just a "synth with wavetables", as it sounds luvverly and highly usable. Do make sure you can get the latest firmware though; Modal have a long history of financial problems, and I'd not trust the website to be there "forever".

And is the better for those differences IMO. Far less strident and the lack of frets adds a nice lazy quality.

It only works when the people who run two bands can pull the others in when required and those other people are doing nothing else. As a person who prefers to have one band and nothing else, I have always found that if someone is in two bands, their availability is compromised and so is their attention span and ability to absorb and devote time to learning new material. It very rarely works and there is always going to be conflicts over which band gets first dibs on dates. It's just a nightmare. The people who elect to be in two bands (but don't run diaries) always think they can make it work. They of course, are not the ones tearing their hair out over broken gig schedules and aren't the ones going back to venues saying 'oh I'm sorry, x is suddenly not available'.

Sounds good and curious what the bass is ? Dave

I did wonder if there weren't local names for playing styles. I really enjoyed the nostalgia of watching Rhiannon playing something I attempted so long ago.

Ta,I'll go back to the original video taker and ask if they can do that.

That took a turn I wasn’t expecting. Hope @The Guitar Weasel comes back. I’m sure no offence was meant. jonny

Bet you're glad to be bacck at it and that is one nice rig you have there. What's the bass ? Dave

didn't know you were tackling guitar charts too Rob. Not that i play guitar but it impresses me even more how you can do all this work and i know you generally make light of it but if it was that easy why are we not all doing it, including me ? Dave

Another one from the "Beyond the Missouri Sky" album. Double bass solo included. Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny - The Moon Song

Yep def one of my bass heroes along with Neil Murray, Jack Bruce and of course Jeff Berlin. Also loved his tone on A Live Record. Dave

NBD - I've only gone & done it again! Spector Fretless
Marc S replied to Marc S's topic in Bass Guitars
Hi. It has been at the luthiers for a while - having the fingerboard levelled, and the edges "rolled" It's set up better now, and playing even nicer. I have missed it while it was there. So it hasn't had much play for a while - until now. Definitely not selling this bass, as I like having a fretless to noodle on. I'll be taking it to band practice (the band I got it for) shortly. Might even gig it in a few weeks. If you see one of these, and you've got a hankering for some fretless... these are nice basses. I really like the flexibility of tone, with the added piezo in the bridge - and I'm not usually keen on active basses. Cheers 😀 -
Depends what platform you are on. If it was recorded with an iOs thing, such as an iPhone, you can just rotate it with the rotate tool in photos. I assume if you are using another platform, similar tools are available. But you probably need to trim the 'pre-rotate' part of the video anyway!

ok, puzzlingly I did a trial with the WS90 and a cable through to a spark 40 with everything turned up and an overdrive on, and I couldn't tell the difference between the wireless and cable. So I thought maybe it was the WS90 Rx connected to the back of the Mod Dwarf, so i tried that, and again, no actual noise until I play with my 'whole lot of love full distortion' patch, and no difference between the cable and the wireless, so I think I must be looking in the wrong place. Which is a concern, I can't think of any more places!

Raising cash so up for sale is IMHO one of the finest tracking octavers available for bass. It has two distinct octave voices a Growl which replicates the toothy synth tone of an OC2 and a Girth which is smooth and deep like an EBS octabass/octamizer. You can get subtle variations from mixing the two. It also has a switchable mid boost/cut on the clean tone which can be adjusted internally, very handy. Usual small MXR enclosure with fantastic build quality. Its in great condition and a beautiful deep blue sparkle. No box, but will be well packed. (Note- the A sticker will be removed and cleaned, ive a two channel setup and kept mixing them up 🤣) £85 posted to UK only

I have a Status copy with a bolt-on carbon neck made by him. I modified the bass with Noll electronics. It would be nice to see all creations he has done over the years.

I sort of thought the opposite to that, in that as I became more in the market for spending a bit more money on instruments, I lost interest in going to PMT in recent years when the instruments in stock were reduced to nothing but cheaper end Fender/Squier, Sterling Subs, lower end Ibanez and Cort related stuff. If you're in that mid to higher market, it's preferable to have the opportunity to go into a physical shop and spend time trying things out to find that mythical one that feels just right before laying down well over a grand (or more), but PMT took the option of selling only the cheap mass produced identikit far eastern stuff that you can easily buy literally everywhere else online, giving them no USP. I'm sure they used to have interesting higher end stuff. When I properly got back into playing and thought I should buy myself a new bass for the first time in 30 years, I went to PMT Cardiff in early 2019, tried a few basses and spent £600 on a nice enough Ibanez. I remember the guy next to me at the till was buying a £2K EBMM Stingray. I also remember admiring all the USA made Les Pauls and PRS hanging on the wall. All that higher end stuff completely went out the window in recent years (or they never ever had it in the Cardiff branch at least, nor the couple of times I visited the Bristol and Portsmouth shops), leaving them competing with the likes of Amazon in terms of what was actually available to buy in store, and you can obviously never outcompete Amazon in shifting huge volumes of cheap mass produced gear, you shouldn't even try. edit: tl;dr - If they hadn't decided to purge their in-store stock of anything vaguely interesting or higher spec in a race to the bottom which they could never win, they might still be in business.

So I used my Sennheiser 100’s again last night with a Behringer P2M as it was a sit down gig. It was probably the heat/sweat but I was struggling with the fit of one earpiece. I’m using the largest tip I’ve got, but I think I need a larger tip for my left ear. Sound / mix wise, the gig had an in-house PA and engineer, and a quick turnaround between bands so I went with bass at unity, everything else at -6db and I had a great sound.
