Or she's been telling it to someone else 😂😂😜 Dave -
I returned the Yamaha to Mike last week after using it for a couple of months - absolutely can't think him enough. I was pleased to upgrade the loom for him with a KigOn loom as a thank you - Mike, I hope you enjoy the VBT layout a bit more than the previous setup. Cheers!!!

That was down to the venue. Band name did appear every now and again and was showing before we started. I do like a screen backdrop. Dave

I’ve been on a search myself over the last year for a compact, sturdy stand for when I fly with my bass. The best I have found, that doesn’t wobble is the Hercules Travelite. It folds flat & I can fit it in the front pocket of my Gator Pro gig bag, I’ve used it at a couple of festivals & it impressed me that much that it now lives in the bottom of my Pelicase as a spare emergency stand on most of my regular gigs or if I’m travelling light.. It even supports Jazz bass bodies as there is enough back/body support, if you move the bass ‘off centre’? -

Not sure about the Jazzes but the Precision ones are very much like the Fender Custom Shop 62s, maybe the Jazzes follow suit? -

I only bought one thing this year (see above) and unwittingly assisted lee650 by doing so. (. 👍) Having bought exactly nothing in 15 years I feel pretty good about my mean abstinence rate when factored in over a lifetime. That one purchase was therefore a statistical blip and not significant in statistical terms. I therefore feel a prince Andrew style entitlement to reinstatement (despite the actual facts) - strange parallel there 🧐

You’re fitting in very well 👍

Hi, If you have a look at the thread I started a few weeks back there's some great suggestions. I've had quite a lot of stands and the best one was my Ultimate which was nicked from a gig. The floor ones I don't trust as I had a bouzouki fall off on stage. Like a bass it has a long neck. I find the Hercules too bulky as with all of those with a grabber neck. The Ultimate was the best compromise between safety and folding compact. This one: https://amzn.eu/d/buVLt2S It shows the stand folded up -

The process I use is 1) 320 wet and dry 2) 600 wet and dry 3) 1500 wet and dry 4) Mini dremel-style multitool (chinese made) fitted with polishing felt disc and some buffing compound. It gets the frets mirror shiny but not as sparklingly mirror shiny as the best I've seen but it's good enough for me. The masking takes as long to do as the rest of the work so I've started using those metal slot guards instead. So far so good.

Hiss is normal. The source of the hiss is probably your signal chain. But if by hiss you actually mean hum, then there's a broken earth connection somewhere and you'll need to go through a process of elimination to isolate where between your fingers and the speaker the problem is.

Just found it also. Failed miserably already...two basses, guitar pedals and some guitar rack gear.

I was born in Fareham and grew up in Warsash until my family left for NZ. I've gone back there a few times over the years and very little has changed apart from more houses and less fields. Oh yes we do, but there's a separate forum for that...welcome aboard!

Just found this thread. Bought 2 basses and a neck in 2025. Might have to try in 2026.
-
Scary router bit arrived (a 50mm bottom bearing flush cutter) and I managed to trim the excess material from the neck pocket without maiming myself or the bass. Obviously some finishing off/shaping to do, but that's it started anyway.

I'm looking at this thread and wondering if I did the right thing today. I picked up a Yamaha RBX 170 for free this morning, the fretboard and frets were all mucky (and the jack socket hanging off as well!) so I used a damp cloth and a plastic scraper on the board and it came up lovely. I found some Pink Stuff cleaning paste in the kitchen and an old sock to apply it with and went to town on the frets. After that I cleaned up both the frets and board with Dunlop no 65 polish n cleaner then Fast Fretted it...after that I put on my shades as the frets were blinding me 😎 Once I'd done a little set up with new strings she sounds sweet, this bass is so light and the neck feels beautiful to play, I can't believe my luck! My nipper is learning bass so I've donated it to him...but I shall be picking her up now and then. Thoroughly recommend the Pink Stuff paste though 👍🏻
