  2. One place where G&L have found a bit of a niche is amongst cash-strapped Tool fans. Out of the box, they probably have the closest thing to a Wal sound of any production bass. Obviously the electronics are very different, but they have a very similar character in the high mids. So a lot of Tool fans have been gravitating towards them as it gets them "close enough" to the Chancellor Wal tone.
  3. Have there been any sightings of these new amps in the wild yet? Asking for a friend.... Rob
  4. In the 1920s Ford introduced streamlined production lines which meant that employees only had to work 5 days a week. This left them with free time at the weekends to play bass guitar or run around sports fields, etc. Currently most of us could work from home on a 3 day week and still be just as productive, but inertia is preventing that. A few companies will lead the way once the old guard have lost control and retired. In the 1980s we had computers that meant all those ladies in typing pools getting RSI could go and do more interesting and productive work. I think AI is just another tool that we will be able to use in the same way to make things easier. People will move even less and get fatter. The people with skills to operate the AI tools and repair the machines will earn more money.
  5. The port size was increased from 4" to 5" some time ago, while the lower crossover point is a recent development, made possible by the adoption of a more powerful compression driver. These are small, incremental improvements, which the average user is unlikely to notice. The sound of the cabs hasn't changed and the larger port will only make itself felt at extreme volumes. The changes from Silverstone to Silverstone II were enough to warrant renaming the cab. That's not the case with the Monza - or the Monaco for that matter, which has also benefited from incremental improvements over time.
  6. Externalisation. The company board of directors thinks of the shareholders first and foremost, and the costs of the board's choices, as much as possible, are to be taken by society. They call this "sound thinking". In this, they trust the workers of other companies - companies that are less good at externalisation as they are themselves - will earn enough to buy these good and services. The larger the company, the worse of an externalisation machine it is. IMHO it's lame thinking, incongruous as you say, but that's the world of the myopic bean counting investors and decision makers.
  7. Hi UK postage possible ?

  9. The link doesn't work, @Phil Starr. I have some, limited experience of painting plastics, as I paint the ports on LFSys cabs. You can't apply normal paint directly; you need to use a special plastic primer. Fortunately, these are available for not much money at most DIY stores. A thin coating is fine. Once you've applied the (spray) primer, you can paint with whatever you like. An acrylic like Tuffcab is a good choice, as it dries quickly and doesn't give off nasty fumes. I've not tried them myself, but there are a number of products available to fill chips and dents in ABS - the kind of thing the autobody guys use to fix bumpers.
  10. Let Me Out - The Knack
  11. Well after posting about changing my pa set up, here is where I`m at. I own a set of Yam DBR 12`s which I think we have used twice. I recently bought a set of DBR 10`s and a s/hand EV ELX 200 12" sub. I have only used this set up in the flat at low volume but on Saturday we are playing in MacSorley`s in Glasgow centre a pub well know for bands so I will see what happens. The DBR has a 100 HZ and a 120 HZ setting on the back, what would be the best setting? The good thing about the sub is it has an app to adjust, saves me bending down too far!
  12. This is an incredible phaser and there is probably a very, very small number in the UK and likely Europe!
  13. Absolutely. I allowed myself to become a bit blasé with this one. It’s repaired now but the guilt is real👍
  14. Beautiful 👍
  15. Thanks Tom. 👍 I can’t fault it - TBH, it’s more than I need as we always DI. Hence, I’ll got for a little combo as a backup. This needs to be cranked up and used! 😀
  16. The tones from those pickups sound great, it looks fantastic, no doubt plays great but the smaller banjo frets and cost aren't for me. I am surprised their import basses are now 2k+. I realise manufacturing location doesn't mean much now, heck look at Apple and how insanely high quality their products are, but....it's a lot for a modern take on a PJ from China.
  17. The way I see the difference between P and Jazz is that I always think that a P bass sound blooms. it's like a lazy sound, not punchy and fast transients, the sound slowly forms. A Jazz on the other hand is more punchy and faster attack. YMMV but that's how I see both basses. I don't see one as being better than another, in fact one of the best bass sounds I've ever heard is this one at 1:51: I've been reading this thread on and off since it started and two videos always came to mind when thinking about the difference between P and Jazz and that is Rush playing Roll the Bones Live: Precision: Jazz: The Jazz to me clearly sounds the most suited to the song. It's not that the Precision is bad, it just doesn't work for me here just like I don't think a Jazz would have worked on Dragon Attack above

  19. The Czech-Ease is a full sounding bass with an abbreviated body that makes it more portable than its full-bodied cousins without losing the true sound and feel of a double bass. The instrument is one of choice of Dave Holland, Esmeralda Spalding and Chris Wood.. These basses are now discontinued, but this particular bass is in perfect condition with no marks or scratches. It has only had one owner and limited home studio use, and has not been used for gigs. It comes fitted with a Gage Realist pickup and adjustable bridge. It also comes with a well-padded gig bag.

  20. Let it go - Idina Menzel
  21. Originally bought when I switched in-ears, the bass player in me made me buy 2 - you know, just in case one went faulty 🙄 Either that or it's OCD 🤔 I pretty much take two of everything to gigs. These are two channel headphone amplifiers so you can either take a stereo feed from the desk and have your own level control for each channel or do what I did and take a signal directly from the end of my pedal board into 1 channel and the second from the desk. That way I could mix all of the ban minus me in one channel and then bring my bass in using the other. Overkill but I liked it. Anyway, the first one was on my pedal board and at some point I took the sticker from the Radial Tonebone that I had and put in on top. It also has velcro on the bottom so is ready to mount on your pedalboard. The second one is as new and still sealed. Collection welcome or postage will be £5 for each one.
  22. Depends on the crack on the top I guess. The pressure of a bridge could see the whole thing implode which would be a shame.
  23. Mesa Diesel cab in great condition for its age. 400w 8 ohm. I bought this last year from @Chimike on this forum so from a reputed and respected basschatter. I’ve not used it anger, just low volume at home. I do have another one as well if someone is looking for a pair. Traynor amp not included, although it is for sale.
  24. I’m having a big clear out of basses, strings and pedals. Pretty much anything that I am no longer going to be using so that I can reduce my collection to just 1 main bass, a back up and the pedals that I need. I have always loved single coil P basses but I am never going to have the opportunity to play this live so I may as well let it go to a good home. Used for 1 gig in 2023, it's pretty much in mint condition, right down to the fact that the plastic is still on the scratchplate. It also comes fitted with a set of Ernie Ball 2810 flats that I had already bought for a 5 string. Collection preferred but I am happy for you to arrange a courier as I have plenty of packaging materials to ensure that this is well packed.

  25. Would consider trades for a medium or short scale something, or a EUB. What do you have?
  26. End of half-term bump!
  27. There quite different cabs The Monza is fairly “flat” as in uncoloured whereas the BF two 10 is more old school vibe and sounds great when pushed in a “Rock” environment. I used to use a U700 with 2 BF two 10 and the was loud a hell. I think you might need to go one way or the other cab wise.. Or swap them both for a Super Twin
