  1. Past hour
  2. TLDR - Mr. Hornby-Skewes has passed away and the estate is now closing the company which is in good financial health. I mean, fair enough. Will be a shame to have one less choice, and they were well supported by smaller independent guitar shops. The domination of Squier/Fender shall continue evermore.
  3. I doubt Cort put a passive tone circuit on those.
  4. This is certainly an unusual-looking instrument: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116684725531 I wonder if the lack of frets near the top was simply because it's too hard to reach that part of the neck. The same chap has a Roland Cube of the sort jazz guitarists like, but this one is filthy: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116691148146
  5. Here's some videos I think I'm there or there abouts
  6. And now a press release via here: https://guitar.com/news/gear-news/john-hornby-skewes-jhs-shutting-down/
  7. Disturbingly, we seem to be nearing a consensus.
  8. Excellent choice. I had one of those and loved it, it will serve you well.
  9. Hmmm...not the first time I've looked at this...even though I am without a Spector I really can't justify another bass. GLWTS
  10. I've seen an unofficial notice / rumour that JHS (Dist. for Vintage, Encore et. al) are close to shutting their doors. I hope that this is not the case, as their products are useful conduits for entry-level (+) musicians.
  11. I don’t think they are flying off the shelf for some reason but if they at least sound as good as a PF500/PF800 etc without the shutdown issues then they will be great amps Since Yamaha purchased them I don’t see a lot of groundbreaking designs and the Venture cabs are so over priced
  12. I love having the full ashtray setup on my P bass for the look but I don't like not being able to play right over the pickup. So to keep the retro aesthetic I've gone for creme pickup covers... What do you think?
  13. It's actually got one 😁 it used to be higher. I will edit this into the description, good point.
  14. I have one of these pedals built by @BabyBlueSound and it's absolutely brilliant. Biggest bargain on Basschat .
  15. First: Plywood Hohner Arbour P-alike, which sounded.... reasonable. Go to - Black Player P "My" bass - the black P.
  16. That's a common misconception, Mike. It was David Paton, formerly of Pilot and Alan Parsons Project ect. who played bass on Nikita. Apparently he go to the studio early one day, was just playing his Stingray along to the backing track to test out a new piece of equipment, Elton heard it and loved it and the rest is history.
  17. Good heavens!
  18. In passive mode, you may find that the treble control works as a treble cut, just like a passive bass. It's not a certainty though.
  19. Nano board, main bass and micro board. This is my 2025 core setup for live, recording and tone exploration. Also sharing some of the tracks I’ve recorded: Cheers, Chad
  20. Or 'good at metal'.
  21. It's just arrived... Of all the places something like this could have come from, it came from Cash Converters. Yup. Good old Cash Converters. I took a huge punt on it when I noticed Alice Cooper's autograph. Certainly wasn't anywhere near convinced it was legitimate when I bought it. But... having spent most of last night trying to find any information, I managed to find the 4 photos of Alice, Steven, Francis, Rick and Ian. All holding this guitar, and all with signature markings on the guitar they are holding that match exactly the position of the signatures on this one I now have in hand. I reached out to Warwick Stone (anyone that watches Pawn Stars would know him as the British chap that values all of their Rock memorabilia). He responsed by email yesterday evening after having seen the guitar and the photos I posted here and confirmed it was legitimate. I've also reached out directly to Ian Hunter and Jeff Wayne (as I found their email addresses) as well as Gibson's current CEO, Cesar. Hopefully one of those will respond and be able to give me some more clues as to some of the other signatures! A hell of a find...
  22. Breaking up is hard to do - Neil Sedaka
  23. Just a thought, should we not have a category for ‘Heft’?
  24. Another Maruszczyk owner here whose cheesy truss rod snapped. Best description I read was "That looks like soviet era technology" 🙂 I too had the neck repaired and carbon rods put in, by the amazing @Manton Customs - mine's an elwood 5 and Robin even managed to match the aged binding around the board. They're lovely basses, once the truss rod issue is sorted, I love mine 🙂 GLWTS!
  25. Looks good for me as well
