  1. Past hour
  2. It's now totally official! 😥
  3. Those stairs are a killer but it is an amazing venue. The owner is also a really good guy. Dave
  4. I'm just about ready to buy a nice Spector 5 string and was reminded that previously with 5 strings, I've had a nightmare trying to sell them when ready for a change. Are 5 string basses typically difficult to sell or have I just had the wrong ones? Previous 5's include Ibanez SRMS805 Ibanez SR505 and Sterling Ray35 (very nice budget stingray)
  5. With twin truss rods, the process is to act on the treble one first, after freeing the bass one, until the neck is as straight as you want on that side and then slightly tighten the bass side until there's a very tiny slight resistance. That way the relief will be perfect. All my Leduc sixers, but one, have twin truss rods, furthermore I owned several Alembics and, I must confess, some Rickenbackers and Rickenfakers too.
  6. No always. One of the 5 I own is exceedingly battered and at least one of the catches has failed meaning that it's only really suitable for holding an instrument in storage now. It arrived in that condition when I bought the bass that came with it, so I have no idea what the previous owner did to it. Unsurprisingly the bass inside was in a similar poor condition and ended up going back to the maker for an extensive refurb and refinish.
  7. We’re there Sunday week.
  8. If my sound is dull or flat the first thing I do is make sure my tweeter is switched on.
  9. Bought Eddie's Barefaced 212 cab. Such a nice guy, very helpful, even offered to bring the cab over to one of the rehearsal studios we use to try it at louder volumes. Arranged to hear the cab at his house and he set it up with his TC Staccato head. The big surprise was he brought out his Jack Bruce signature Thumb bass and being a huge JB fan with my own Thumb NT 1989 was overwhelmed. It was gorgeous. Cab was in perfect condition, very well kept. Eddie got in touch with Barefaced to confirm the impedance which was 4 ohm and what i wanted. He told me last night that Barefaced have asked me to drop them a message to let them know what i think of the cab. As soon as i heard it i was sold. It was a glorious sounding cab. This is exactly how all deals should be. Friendly, helpful and just a simple transaction. Many many thanks Eddie. Dave
  10. These are awesome cabs, I’ve got a couple of the 8ohm versions, been using them for a good 5 years and they’ve never let me down. GLWTS

  19. Welcome Guillaume. You started earlier than I did, I was 55 when I first picked up a bass and as a complete non musician. I've played hundreds of gigs since then and at 73 I'm still gigging regularly and putting together new bands. It's been a hobby which has paid for itself but most of all a joy. There's nothing better than a room full of people having fun dancing and singing to the music you make. You have plenty of time
  20. And the missing piece of information from this reanimated zombie thread... Ibanez Precision?😂
  21. Su Casa es mi Casa - Infectious Grooves
  22. Glad you like it, I had one too, but strangely, out of all the barefaced cabs i owned (5) it was the one i couldn’t get on with.I suppose it did make me realise that i preferred cabs with tweeters
  23. It really is enormously versatile, like a more refined/polished version of my old G&L L2000. if finances allowed it would be a keeper, but my days of keeping a 'stable' are long gone (alongside the days of having disposable income 😁).
  24. I once did the equivalent of that in reverse. Played a good sized venue on a tour and put my amp on standby after the soundcheck. Played the first couple of numbers and could hear the bass from foh but nothing onstage. Wondered what was wrong until I saw my amp was still on standby!
  25. Many thanks! It's good to know that the current speaker isn't a total mismatch. I haven't had it long enough to use with the band yet, but I'll take it along to the next rehearsal and have a listen out for any distortion. There's definitely no wadding inside and I'm pretty sure no bracing either (I'll check again).
  26. For sale F bass BN4 of 2022. Perfect condition it comes out of the luthier for complete adjustment, new strings. Supplied with its F cover.

  27. I've just found this thread. I have, and won't sell, EA iAmp800, VL210 I've had and regret selling VL110, and a VL208 I've had and don't miss 2 x Wizzy 12" M line. They were good but not in the same ball park as the VL range. On Instagram, 10 weeks ago, there were a pair of VL208s for sale in the States.
