  2. Well, I don't know the Hartwood. I do know the Harley Benton and that is absolutely excellent. Even the pickups are fine. It's not available in black ATM but if the colour isn't a huge issue, you can go for a seafoam green or daphne blue one. I'd definitely go for the HB.
  3. Hey there, thanks for asking. I'm going to be honest and say that the solid resin core necks don't offer any weight saving vs wood. I can make them lighter but then they become more resonant which means they might not sound as good...or they will need more R&D to offer lightweight and stay sounding fat. Fingerboards typically affect the metallic sounds in string attack, like fret noise, say 1.2Khz and above depending on other materials. If your standard for timbre is a maple neck then you could try a maple fingerboard on our necks and make sure the body has a significant proportion of maple (ideally softer maple) in it. Then you might still preserve some of those compressed qualities but with the advantages of graphite. EDIT: The best sounding bass I own is all maple - the Spector NS5CR. It's warm but not woofy, it's bright but not brittle and there is a little compression to the highs. So I totally get where you're coming from.

  6. I did do a board of Boss compact pedals, it was quite addictive tryting to get the colourful collection. The Boss compact hardware is really good and I found there are certain pedals that Boss do really well: Tuner, compressor, limiter, chorus, flanger, octaver, space echo, and the BB1-X. .....but then I wasn't such a fan of things like the AW-3, SY-1, GEB-7, ODB-3, there are better (often cheaper) alternatives . So once I started using some other pedals (e.g. MXR envelope filter instead of the AW-3, Sine FX parametric EQ instead of the GEB-7 ) the whole idea sort of went out of the window.

For my band and previous band where we were a trio of musicians playing rock I made sure my bass sound was Full and loud so when guitarist soloed it sounded full as a band I play with a pick on a PBass and don’t need fx etc and learn to palm mute for quieter parts and let rip for loud parts. A good amp and decent cabs are all you need in my opinion and play like a bass / rhythm guitarist !
  9. Just a post in praise of the TI JR. Obv, not to your taste, and that is cool. But if anyone out there likes a nice, compliant string that is a bit (tiny bit) rubbery/bendy, then this is the set you are seeking.

  17. Really intriguing project you've got here. Echoing the question on weight of the jazz necks (and how much an ebony/rosewood board would impact that). Also interested in how you perceive the timbre comparing different fretboard materials. I like the way all-maple necks can appear to sound/feel a little compressed.

  21. Up for sale is my 45 year old 1980 Fender Precision Elite in excellent condition with the exception of one lacquer ding on the bottom edge. Set up beautifully it weighs in at a meaty 4.3kgs, has a wider profile 44mm neck but somehow plays brilliantly Features are single split coil pickup, active boost electronics, schaller fine tune bridge, and gold hardware which is in remarkably good nick for a 45 year old. Comes in an equally vintage and robust hard case. I'll be sad to see it go but our impending house move forces a bit of a clear out. Can meet up within an hour of The Wirral or deliver anywhere (surely no courier could penetrate this case and even if they did, the bass would fight back.....)

  23. I couldn’t find one on Amazon for a decent price. All the normal priced ones said i was outside of the delivery zone (central london). I’m not sure why they are on Amazon UK if that’s the case.

  25. I replaced two BF One10s with a single LFSys Monza, for similar reasons. It's been a while since the change and I'm still absolutely delighted every time I plug in, regardless of what volume I'm at! The build quality on the LFSys cabs is far superior in my opinion too, so you'll be getting something built to last. If you regularly go LOUD with your Two10, I would look at the Monaco, as the 12" speaker will give you more, but for me, so far, the 1x10 Monza is way louder than what I was getting with my two One10s. As noted above, you're not comparing apples with apples if you're considering a Super Compact vs an LFSys cab. The crossover and additional mid/high driver of the LFSys, will really bring out more of the nuances from fretless playing. As far as the difference between the LFSys and a BF BigBaby, more like apples and apples, the BigBaby seems to be truly FRFR, and the LFSys is too, yet somehow, it's subtly more suited to bass guitar, it's still a bass cab, not a PA speaker. So in summary, I'd go for an LFSys cab Cheers, Ewan
