Paddy777 started following Providence 🇯🇵 ‘Bass Boot Comp’ Compressor Pedal

Great little Japanese made compressor, lively & transparent with mix knob/function giving parallel compression - comes in original box, in great condition. Blurb, pics and Basstheworld demo vid below 👇 £70 posted (RM Tracked) Great value for a very well made and decent little comp - Providence are Japanese and make excellent pedals Trades?: Obviously 😁 Need a good low gain OD and/or fuzz (pref with blend knob) - Genzler 4OTF being my ideal one but try me, an envelope filter, anything preamp-y or mildly interesting - try me! Threshold and mix controls are included to take advantage of the bass's unique dynamics for aggressive sound creation. This bass compressor can add the dynamism of the original sound to a clear, bright, yet smoothly arranged compression sound. The mix control allows for precise and unique compression. ● Versatile Compression The Bass Boot Comp is a bass compressor that can add the vibrancy of the original sound to a clear, bright, yet smooth and well-defined compression sound. ● Versatile Compression Bass Boot Compressor is a clear, bright, yet smooth and well-controlled compression compressor that adds vibrancy to the original sound. ● Mix control to expand the range of expression The Mix control controls the ratio of the compression sound and the original sound output, allowing expression of delicate touch nuances with a core, or nuances of the original sound in a well-defined sound, which is difficult to achieve with a compressor alone. The "M" is the first of its kind in the world. Of course, it can also be used as a pure compressor by outputting only the compression sound. Adding the original sound to the compression sound gives a sense of openness, while adding the compression sound to the original sound gives a sense of stability in sound pressure. By approaching the sound from each direction, you can greatly expand the range of expression. ● Equipped with Threshold control You can control the reference value you want to adjust according to the output of the pickups and the intensity of your picking. Combined with attack and sustain, a wide range of expression is possible, from a thick, dense limiting sound to a speedy compression sound with an emphasis on attack. ● Visible gain reduction The gain reduction level is represented by an LED indicator and can be visually determined. The LED lights up brighter when it is strongly applied and dimmer when it is weakly applied. SPEC Controls: LEVEL, ATTACK, SUSTAIN, MIX, THRESHOLD Input/Output: 1/4" phone jack (INPUT, OUTPUT),DC9V input jack Power: 9V battery, or AC adapter/power Supply (sold separately) Power consumption: DC9V 25mA (with effects on) Dimensions: 115(D) X 73(W) X 50(H)mm Weight: 230g (body only)

Lovely basses. Did you clamp the neck for a day or two while the glue set?

Or…… …buy the one that looks best and learn to play it 👍

After having a brain-bleed stroke at the beginning of Feb, followed by 5 weeks in hospital and 7 weeks recuperating at home, I actually managed to get out and play half a gig last Sunday. I'd stepped back from my band ('Mustang Sally') simply cos I couldn't drive nor stand up for very long. They replaced me on bass for the time being by a guy with 5 years more experience than me (he's 80!) but as the gig was actually an outdoor mini-festival in West Bay Dorset where I live they invited me to play the 30 minute sax set with them that I used to do. I have to say it was very nice to get up on a stage and belt out One Step Beyond, Geno and some rock'n'roll without falling over, running out of breath or having another Julius (Seizure!) It was also interesting to compare the new guy's bass sound (vintage Vox Phantom long scale and TC Helicon gear) with my Mustang and AG700/Darkglass set up - his sound throughout was a band-leading Jean-Jacques Burnel Stranglers clang while mine is mostly much a more nuanced thump with the occasional clang where needed... Let's hope a few 100% gigs come along before Christmas!

A stunning performance from Dave Holland on his composition 'The Empty Chair (For Clare)', a dedication to his wife who had recently passed away. Some deep guitar work from Kevin Eubanks who is such an idiosyncratic player. The tune is from Holland's 2013 'Prism' album. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/the-empty-chair-for-clare-dave-holland/

After following this topic and other pa related threads i finally pulled the trigger on a used pair of rcf 710s.Sounded great in my garage studio tonight.First full gig for my duo this friday so we shall see how they compare to the srm 450s we used to use in a previous band .Going to run the double bass through a gk combo with a small amount through the pa.dont know if they will handle the suitcase bassdrum though

If you can play several DB's that would be ideal. Just because it is a "3/4 double bass" doesn't mean too much because the dimensions and shape vary a lot as well as the neck size and shape. I have owned three DB's and one is perfect for my body size and shape, another is OK and the third was not good at all for me. Just a suggestion, play as many as you can before you buy so you will know what feels best for you. Good luck.

Glad you're on the mend. Just take it easy with the ankle and no jogging or running up stairs for a few weeks. Dave

Thomastik flats (check reviews) https://www.thomann.co.uk/thomastik_jf344.htm but super long scale 36”) they fit my 34” jazz fine though E string does wind around post but no issue .. but I’m really a roundwound steels player & thought I’d try em as they are more metallic sounding than regular flats & have normal kinda tension .. less than an hours play & strung inline 4 (jazz bass) .. £30 posted

I want to make a 2-unit wooden sleeve rack
nekomatic replied to bass_dinger's topic in General Discussion
OK, if the units are both fairly light and you don’t plan to hump the assembly around to gigs and stuff then screws into a batten are probably fine. I’d still take your measurements off the actual setup though. - Today

I want to make a 2-unit wooden sleeve rack
Mottlefeeder replied to bass_dinger's topic in General Discussion
Something to be aware of is that the original rack specification was for 19" by 1.75" modules, but as a result of standardisation in Europe it is now a close metric equivalent. Although the new standard allows compatibility with older gear, building your sleeve around an unknown panel may mean that not all panels will fit. David -

The 5s are 17.5mm, whether it's a US or Tribute model. They're very similar - the Tributes have flatsawn maple necks compared to the quartersawn ones on the US models, they come in a much more limited range of finishes, and the body woods tend to be heavier, but, otherwise, they're practically identical. The pickups and electronics are the same. G&L Tributes are one of the best bargains out there, basically, and are criminally overlooked, considering their Leo Fender lineage.

That's what I've been reading. I also really like the feel of the sound against the body. I guess you don't get that on an eub! Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. I'm now refreshing every marketplace I can find constantly hoping for an affordable jewel to show up. 😁

I think you’re having what’s termed an ‘active retirement’ , Pete 😆

Renting vs buying first bass
The Guitar Weasel replied to Fishfacefour's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Thank you ... 🙂 Double basses are huge fun ... there are very few musical instruments that are as much of an experience for the senses as 'doghouse'. You have so much body contact with your bass that you 'feel' what you are playing in a way you simply don't with bass guitar. With a band - you can rest on your bass between numbers ... or give it a hug ... or if you are of my persuasion a twirl it at opportune moments - or play it at a jaunty 45 degree angle. For Pizz learning good right hand technique will help prevent pain (plucking things like your average Fender Jazz bass will cause blisters and very little usable volume for example). And if it's any more encouragement - my rehearsal and gig transport is an tiny and ancient Rover 25 - my bass travels happily in its soft case - upside down in the passenger seat with its seatbelt on - my amp rig in the boot - and space for one passenger (or one and a midget ☺️) in the back seat. -

Not yet Dave, I'm not out of the woods yet. However I'm hoping I " doge a bullet " this time. I was able to walk to my mail box this afternoon. And yes, I have to be careful. I can't be walking around absent minded and aimlessly, hoping a fan might want to talk to me. Lol Daryl
