  2. I think it's my first time posting in here..if not for a long time. First gig in about 10 years (stopped when my first kid came along and somehow didn't start again...) Studied jazz at Birmingham conservatoire about 20 years ago and a guitarist on my course plays professionally and now lives fairly near. Always say we should do something. He messaged me a week ago saying his regular bassist wasn't available and did I want to do a gig at a pub in Adderbury. 2 country/blues sets. Mix of original's and their own tunes. About 30 to learn in total. 3 core band members (2 guitar/vocal and drummer) play together but keys were from a jam Jimmy the guitarist plays at and well, I was the random. Setup. Fairly small but nice size side room. Banging pub with loads of spaces all filled with families, solo drinkers, younger ones (people saying they don't drink...) and older groups. Extra bonus was Chris from Fairport Convention was going to sit in...turned up and did every song for both sets. Goes without saying he is an absolutely outstanding musician with big ears and chops. Setup in minutes with those new iPad driven PA systems. No rehearsal or soundcheck just straight into it. I know they are players and heard their recordings but hearing ripping country blues licks from them both was a delight which makes you want to play even better. I remember laughing at one point at the licks being pulled out The new TRB6 from Bass Bros and Aguilar SL212 sounded so nice in the room. Maybe being right in the corner helped. Also had a couple of admirers in the audience as a friend at the back overheard them when they came in ogling it. Bringing a 6 string to this felt a bit like bringing the whole Japanese army to a gun fight, but its what I feel more comfortable on. Left the SL112 in the car as the ful stack would have been overkill. Many a compliment from Chris about the sound and feel, which made my day. He was like 10 inches in front of me and the cab. Audience liked it. The dogs liked it. Bar staff liked it. We liked it. Can't ask for more than that. Look forward to the next one in less than 10 years hopefully. A sample of their regular band to give you an idea of you're into that sort of thing:
  3. Will do, later when I can be arsed to take em... I'll post on here. What am I defending my choice of bass bridge?, it's only, a bloody bridge for god sake...
  4. Stingray Classic Bass in rare Lake Tahoe Blue which is very similar to Lake Placid Blue with birdseye maple fretboard and neck from 2011. The body is made of ash and it’s general condition is 9/10 for it’s age with a small mark on the front of the bass (see photos) and the usual swirls on the pickguard, weight is 4.6kg. Also comes with a standard Musicman hardcase. Price £1,850 including full insured shipping. Also happy for anyone to come around and play it in my studio in Coalisland. Sale available to people living in Northern Ireland and UK mainland only. I have also advertised the bass on Ebay and Reverb but at a higher price due to commisson if you prefer to purchase it that way.

  5. And let's not forget Fender's extraordinary achievement of having offered 7526 different versions of the exact same model each and every year for the Namm show since your 15 years of absence...
  6. Would be god to see a better photo 👍
  7. The grooves are there man, polished chrome on the saddle, look very close, it's a shite picture anyway. Trust me, they are there.
  8. Got a few of them, build quality is a bit naff compared to the Halon.
  9. I bought a set of TI Jazz Flats from David. They arrived promptly, very well packaged... and in excellent condition. Many thanks 😎👍
  10. A request from a Facebook Transcription Forum, the complete Charles Mingus bass performance on the track 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' from the 1959 Mingus album, 'Mingus Ah Um'. An absolute classic album chock full of magic. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/goodbye-pork-pie-hat-charles-mingus/
  11. No joke, the load out tends to take 30-mins longer when I use it as so many people come up and chat about it
  12. One thing I love about Ashdown is that despite being so busy, they've always got time to talk to you about gear, even if it's not related to an immediate sale. If only all brands were the same
  13. Had they done it more like the Mesa Venture - facade similarly on s slant but controls protected by overhang of case, rock solid handle, wheels - they might have got away with it Worth noting that the Venture weighed only slightly less than Luxembourg and had it's own gravitational field as the result, but was actually very easy to move around, even upstairs - defying it's Dalek-esque qualities - on the basis of those wheels and that handle 👍
  14. Looks like Ashdown have been rather busy, a lot of new ranges probably ready for NAMM, and hopefully we get to see them in Birminghams Guitar & Bass show.
  15. Yep, if the ad’s still here it’s still for sale (slightly surprisingly!)
  16. Andy bought a Bassrig 15 preamp pedal from me and all was tip top and hunky dory! Enjoy 🙂

  18. I suppose on the bright side - Bass playing is one of the few activities where you could have 50 year old equipment that is still perfectly fine (or even quite desirable) to use. For a lot of new Basses a new paint job is about the limit of innovation, and even that is a re-release a lot of the time.
  19. Just got an email re their new SBM range, lightweight powerful combos.
  20. Saw this on a sire page. They look nice.
  21. Would likely take an interesting swap for this. I was hoping to use the money towards a short scale ACG, but also in the market for a Jazz, preferably a Flea signature in pink if there's any going round. Send me a PM, always up for a chat!
  22. The usual suspects will all have a dog in the fight. Don't buy on recommendation. Go somewhere like Bass Direct and try some out. It's your decision which you prefer.
  23. I really like the sound of the new octave pedal. The octave up sounds much less quacky compared to the Ehx micro pog. I like how both can be mixed with sub low and dry. I just prefer the sound of the Aguilar. Grape phaser compared to mxr phase 90 sounds more silky smooth

  25. Good choice! 👍 love the inlay!
