  2. Gigged this yesterday and another bass player came up afterwards, took it off the stand and examined it! Perhaps I should post all the specs, but I think you all know what a Flea Jazz is. Someone enquired about the neck. I bought from Bass Direct as I had heard some necks were warped, but clearly didn’t have to send it back. I will, though, photograph the flaming, which is exceptional - the neck is not reliced like the body.
  3. Ha! I have Lozz's Keeley compressor, which I bought from him 4 years ago. It's brilliant. Always on.
  4. Lovely bass, right up my street in terms of spec. I find ramps ruin the look of a finely crafted bass such as this - any chance of a photo without the ramp? (I'm not a buyer - I have too many basses, but purely for my viewing pleasure I'd like to see it without the ramp!)
  5. Ooo I love that! Well done sir! 👏 @fretmeister
  6. Bass looks great, by the way! Had my eye on these.
  7. Fair play Lozz 😀 Joking aside, it's really easy to set up a compressor incorrectly or so over the top that it destroys your dynamics, and I think it's because people don't understand what to do with them. And I don't mean that in a condescending or patronising way, but it takes a time and experience to get the best from them. With pedal compressors, my assumption people switch them on expecting an immediate and obvious change as you get with most stomp boxes and when that doesn't happen they either dial in up so it's clearly audible - by which point you've usually strangled the life out of your sound - or end up dismissing them as not doing anything. But when done right, it polishes up the bass and makes it slot into the mix more consistently. And it is more of a feel thing than a tonal one. For example, I was gigging last night and getting a bit carried away as usual and there's a few tracks we do that have large dynamic shifts and sometimes we exaggerate those from whisper quiet to full tilt. With the right settings, the lighter passages are uncompressed but as you dig in you can feel the compression pushing back and controlling the signal. There's still volume and dynamic shifts but they're controlled, I can dig in really hard and get an aggressive energy and while the volume increases it does so in a way that doesn't blow people's heads off. I mentioned my humble Boss LMB-3 earlier and this is what it excels at, once you're pushing against the threshold the pedal really adds something that I've not been able get any other compressor to replicate (a couple have come close, the most notable being the Basswitch dual band) the way it controls the signal and punches back at you, the bass still has the energy as you dig in but feels somehow bigger and more alive without too much of a volume increase. That's not to say compression is for everyone, there's lots of people who don't use them and that's fine too.
  8. Those were the days; with exchange rates being favourable so many bargains were had (and foolishly parted with).
  9. I am not tiny! I am still in. Truss rod adjusted last month - seems the saddles are at the lowest they'll go. Still plays well.
  10. House of 1000 Corpses — Rob Zombie
  11. Of course it is. "And a very profitable Thanksgiving to one and all" said Tiny Tim
  12. £85 Posted Awesome preamp which I’ve really enjoyed using, but nostalgia is leading me to restoring my bass back to its roots. Photos to follow, and comes with box. Unable to post between 3rd-7th December. Cheers

  14. I like both the green and the black version, IMO both colours work well, though shame really there isn't more colour choice. We all like to be a little more individual don't we?
  15. Down Among The Dead Men - Flash and The Pan
  16. The Coffin Ships - Primordial
  17. This isn't for me. I'm still attending my GAS therapy sessions. My Counsellor reports I'm a hopeless case !😂😂
  18. I found the Ampeg Optocomp very good as a pick player but less so fingerstyle. The pedal added a bit of depth when using a pick I’ve noticed that true with some compressors on amps such as the Orange LBT also optical
  19. Just got back in from depping on a gig as part of a big fundraising evening for a cancer charity in Leicester’s Winstanley House. Lovely venue, huge room. Pretty late gig, starting at 10pm, but people were still up for a dance and it was pretty lively. Got completely lost in the dark trying to get out (I’ve only lived in Leicester for 20 years….) and was gonna find a McDonald’s on way home but it was super late and I couldn’t be bothered. Gear was my old vintage P bass with its new Labella DTB flats, thru the usual Markbass traveller rig and pedal board. Footwear was by Clarks. Black jeans by M&S.
  20. I put my dislike of compression solely down to me being too rubbish to know how to use it properly.
  21. Yep, at many gigs I did where the promoters hired in gear often it was Ashdown, which was the reason I started using it as the sound was good, but there is also the thought that hire companies will want reliable gear on their books, which was another factor for me.
  22. Cort Elrick NSJ5 great basses that tend to get overlooked for some reason.
  23. Just got in from my last Spacewasters gig as a full band member (I will be depping for them next year for one gig). Was at The Milton Arms, Southsea, Portsmouth, supporting The Witchdoktors (great band btw). The Witchdoktors provided the backline which was very decent of them, we only had to provide cymbal stands, so made for an easy gig, our drummer drove so all good there. We played well and went down well, though it wasn’t as large an audience as when we’d previously played there, even on pay day, maybe people holding onto cash for Xmas. I played my JMJ Mustang through an Orange Crush (I think) combo, which sounded very nice. Footwear was DM Chelsea/Dealer boots. And now back indoors, well I hurt all over, really reinforcing that my leaving is the right decision, a real shame but I’ve had 4 great years with the band, am so glad I joined them for those years.
  24. I've grabbed the free Waves offer:- https://www.waves.com/plugins/magma-stressbox but I ahven't had the activation email yet. I grabbed Waves IDX last year for free, that is a pretty stunning plug-in, it's up there with Korneff's El Juan, another plugin I managed to snag free and use on pretty much everything. Hmm, I think I got Clarity VX free too... I use Clarity or Izotope's RX Essentials on all of my videos for super clean lav recording.
  25. I actually clean forgot i grabbed it! I haven't even ran the plugin yet lol!
