I think one reason that could be because he gives really low prices for part exchange and buying in, I’ve known him for a long time and I know money has to be made but I haven’t been able to do any deals because of what he offers, quite disappointing sometimes

2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*
Wolverinebass replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Events
That's going to suck for me getting the train, however, hopefully the rail replacement bus won't be awful. -
To be fair, I think Andy Baxter has a more realistic experience of the market than some other dealers and knows what something is really worth. He tends to get in the extremely rare/valuable stuff perhaps more than others do, and it is often very expensive. However, refinished/stripped/altered basses are often considerably cheaper at his place than other dealers - just recently I've seen refinished mid '60s Fender basses go for around 4K, and early '70s ones for around 2-2.5K. Compare that with the likes of the Gallery and Vintage Bass Room for their '60s/70s refins and he seems much better value.

Westone "The Rail" Bass - DOA - Now a minimal bass
rwillett replied to rwillett's topic in Bass Guitars
I now have five days to complete the bass, I've had to go to London twice in the last seven days so progress was limited. Today's activity is to file the aluminium backbone and floor to fit. I've cut it approximately down to around 2-3mm too big and now ill use the finger grinder and a file to make it better. The red parts below are all sacrificial and to make sure it all fits. All the drilling (bar four countersunk holes for the neck bolts on the bottom) and tapping is done. The top aluminium still has it's protective cover on. Once shaped, I'll polish it to an inch (or 25.4mm) of its life. Body sides are more or less done but need some filling, sanding and then priming, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, more painting, yet more painting and then quick drying lacquer. That might be tight Rob -
I’ve never been an expert by any means - every time I think the prices may have hit a ceiling, they continue to climb and climb….
-
It seems pop music has becomes more something people consume, as opposed to something they aspire to create themselves. I suppose that's inevitable, given the corporate takeover of much pop music.

Great sounding small footprint multi fx pedal. Too much fx to list but if you start at everything you'll not be far away! A big upgrade from the original ms60b the sounds are much more faithful. Lots of routing options too if you want to send separate links to pa, foh or your own amp. It been used sparingly so in great condition. £75 pick up Leyland Lancashire or can post for £7.

Wouldn't surprise me. The prices steadily rising is a signal these things are rising and investable commodities and that the demand is healthy. I question both assertions. But I’m old and cynical

Hi Dave, just lately I’ve been using my GB spitfire 5 or a fairly recently acquired Yamaha trb5 mk1 . I’m very lucky to have such a choice I guess. All the best mate x

Separating subs at outdoor gigs is far more important than at most indoor gigs. Yes in an ideal world you'll separate at both but in reality, unless your indoor gig is in a really well acoustically treated space, there will be so much reflected sound that you won't really find many noticeable dead spots caused by phase cancellation.

When I was working in the vintage guitar trade I was told in 2008 by a solid UK source that there is a group of vintage dealers in the States that get together each year prior to a trade show and certain vintage prices are set from there, and like you say, the rest follow and other vintage gear rises accordingly.

One gets the feeling that popular music doesn’t mean as much these days as it once did, when we were younger. It’s more of a background thing that accompanies something else you’re doing. However, that’s viewing it from a musician’s point of view and, perhaps, it was ever thus and we’re not seeing it from the right perspective. Lady Ez, for instance, likes music certainly, but can rarely, if ever, recall the lyrics to a song or hum the tune. She is not a muso and is probably subjected to more music than she would if I didn’t play or was an enthusiast.
