Nice to hear Foulds is still going. It's been 10 years plus since I was last in Derby. Is sound control/rattle n drum still going?

I’ve got one next week.....brushed up on the setlist and made cheat sheets just in case. Nerves kick in a bit, but I’m mostly looking forward to playing.

To have a precise reading, yes, otherwise, it will show it's maximum reading voltage, which is 10.23 Volts. "The highest voltage the Batt-O-Meter can test is 10.23 volts. If you have a device/ instrument that runs on two 9 volt batteries, the Batt-O-Meter will display the highest voltage it can recognize (10.23 volts), although the voltage may be higher."

It's different isn't it. I'd never seen a Honeyburst Jazz before, so commissioned it from Northwest Guitars a few months ago. They've still a few in stock if you're after one yourself :-)

SICbass started following Pedalboard accomodating a Palmer PWT 05 MK2?
-
Hi All, can anyone recommend a pedalboard that would accomodate this Palmer power supply under it? I want to keep the board as small as possible, so really don't want to give up "real esate" to the power supply. Intending to put together my first pedalboard (after roughly 40 years of playing) I bought the Palmer after a colleague recommended it. The unit is great, but relatively "thick" (45mm) so it won't fit under a significant number of boards. The spec for boards that I read, is often not specific about what clearance there is under the board, or if they are, only at the highest point. Given that the space under a board is often wedge-shaped, it remains a bit unclear. Thanks for any recommendations.

HeadlessBassist started following How do you use an active preamp?

I run both passive and active basses, and I have to say, even after thirty-five years of playing active basses, setting up passive basses has taught me how to eq my sound into an amplifier a lot more. So that's where I start - I set 'my' sound on the amplifier, then adjust the gain between passive and active instruments. On an active bass like my Elite Jazz, I'll only add a smidge of boost above centre on the treble and bass on the preamp, leaving the mids centered. You really only need to play with preamp mids if the mids are missing from your sound. If you've ever played on a Sire bass, the sound is almost too 'scooped', so the cure is to boost the mids just a touch and do the opposite with the mids frequency. Very small adjustments can make a significant difference to your sound. Remember, adding mids can make it easier for you to hear yourself, but the more mids you add, the harsher it sounds to the audience. And as Jolltax mentioned, it's all academic anyway, because once you've added two singers, two acoustic guitars, a digital piano, an electric guitar and drums, your sound is buried anyway, so it really doesn't matter! Also, ask even the most experienced pro performer in your band/show about your sound who's not a bass player and you'll always get the answer, "it sounds like a bass."

What a desperately sad story.

The Batt o meter only reads 9 volt batteries in your bass. If you have 18 volt series batteries you have to take them out the bass to test them.

I love my active basses with all the whiz-bang controls but every time I travel/ move with my bass(es) and set up somewhere new it sounds nothing like it did at home. I then spend ages fiddling with all the buttons and switches and getting annoyed with myself because I can't make it sound right. Halfway through the session everyone else in the band turns up the volume and are playing so loud that I can't hear myself playing anyway so my 'tone' obsession is a bit irrelevant

Hi losting, I think this is sound advice from @ian61and @bass_dinger. Personally I would try and get a grip of the basics before trying to play with others, and a teacher does help. In your situation I would buy a modestly priced decent quality second hand bass, there are many on FB / ebay and start playing along with your favourite tracks at home. I spent my first year watching and playing along with videos on YT, I didn't even buy an amp! The best thing I did is find a good teacher online, you progress so much faster. The electronics side of it is interesting, some good advice on here about self builds, speaker cabs Have fun J

Hi Steve, welcome I'm originally from Cornwall (Mylor Bridge), like many of school friends I left to find a job, haven't made it back yet but it will always be home! I bought one those HB basses in lockdown, mine was a 5 string stingray - the same black colour with black headstock, they look really bad-ass! It was amazing for the price. J

I have the older model and never experienced any issues. Just shooting from the hip here, but have you tried any different headphones? I’m just wondering if Nu-x is using more power driving the headphones; maybe an impedance issue? I’ve no idea what I’m talking about so please ignore me if I’m completely off target. 😉

Hello everyone, Having recently upgraded both my touring and backup boards with Cioks power supplies, this is now surplus to requirements. It has recently been serviced and re-capped, and everything works well. It comes with a useful amount of standard 2.1mm pedal leads in both short & long lengths, including the Voodoo Labs 18V adaptor lead, and a pair of mounting brackets. Also included, but not photographed, is a brand-new Thomann UK kettle/IEC lead. Everything is in used, but good overall condition, and ready to go to work! EDIT: Now looking for just £90 for the lot, which includes mainland UK postage. No offers or trades please. Please message me if interested, and thanks for looking! Etienne

Saddened to hear this. He was a great player and a nice man, I saw him a play a few times and bumped into him occasionally..mostly at the Premises in Hackney. A great loss to the bass community. RIP Dill

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
chris667 replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Lovely open mic last night. Two new musicians, both under 20 who had never played at an open mic before! I am always surprised to see what music they like to play. The young woman played a Cranberries song and some Dylan and the man played some Oasis and Squeeze. I think the woman in particular was great, she had really good presence. They were both great really. -
I don't use mine too often, can't remember the last time I charged it but even sitting dormant for a month or two it still has charge and no low battery warning. Sounds like the battery isn't actually being turned off, or just a naff battery in your one. Under warranty?

Tbf, if you live local, even if it went up to £2.00, you'd get some spare parts and a heat source which will be good come winter with current energy prices!
