  1. Past hour
  2. Gotta love Bernie’s creations. Enjoy……..and welcome back to the Goodfellow club.
  3. ^ This ^ was definitely the right choice, great work! 😜
  4. 1. Turn the gain and volume up more 2. Turn the eq up more, it’s based on the Fender tone stack which functions like volume controls (especially the mid band) 3. Use the high gain switch position. Knob position means nothing, the gain structures (and gain stage architecture) are entirely different between the two amps.
  5. I know we've moved on from sliding pickups, but the discussion is now placement and I've had an idea. It's probably not a very good idea and I'm just thinking out loud really but bear with me, and maybe it doesn't belong in this thread but there we go and here we are. If the area between bridge and neck was filled with single coil jazz pickups, or similar slim pickups, and wired via a rotary switch then you'd have the largest range of tones. But, that's a lot of complicated wiring and the pull of the magnets would choke the strings, not to mention the shear weight of it all. Which made me think. If a pickup with no magnet doesn't produce a sound(?) then could a huge pickup the length of bridge to neck be constructed with multiple coils inside, each the width of all strings, permanently wired to an output (via tone if wanted) and a sliding magnet be used to 'activate' each coil in turn. There's various easy ways a lightweight sliding magnet mech could be produced, and there's no moving electrical contacts to sort out. I assume you'd get 'bleed' from the coils either side of the activated coil as it magnetises the string, but it could be interesting. Or am I an idiot? 😁
  6. The Glasshouse Gateshead last night, Roachford supporting Level 42. Roachford is a superb singer and keys player, with a bass, drummer and guitarist in his band, he gave a fantastic performance and really got the crowd going, we thought he was excellent 👍🏼 This was the 40th anniversary of the World Machine Album, which we saw when it was originally toured at Newcastle City Hall back in the 80's. I've seen Level 42 many times, and this incarnation of the band is IMO the best I've seen, with a trio of brass (tenor sax, trumpet and trombone) and the incredible drumming of Pete Ray Biggin they have reinvented themselves and give a polished and entertaining performance complete with brass section dancing, playing percussion and providing backing vocals. I spent as much time watching the amazing PRB on the kit as I did Mark King, who at 67 still does what he does really well. Previously known as The Sage, this is a fabulous venue for live music of many kinds, and the crowd last night had a fantastic night watching two accomplished bands.
  7. Mike bought a set of Dunlop Straploks from me and was a pleasure to deal with throughout. Easy and quick transaction and a great guy. Top Basschatter 👍

  9. Very handsome, great piece of wood.
  10. Yep, they're branded Neutrik, but I think that's just the plugs. They're made to order but I can't remember where I got this from, maybe someone else can advise. 🙂
  11. No problem, this has an active BTS circuit and the battery is mounted under the control plate. It has bass & treble cut and boost on the preamp.
  12. Active DI Boxes powered by phantom power are fine if it's for your own PA. For use with an unknown PA where phantom power may not be available or may only be activated in groups of channels where it may not be appropriate for some of the other equipment connected, it is safer to use a passive DI box. All the problems I have encountered with signals from DI'd equipment not reaching the mixing desk have been down to active DI boxes. Replacing them with one of the passive DI boxes that I always carry has sorted out the problem every time.

  14. Yes, I did a few times over the years. As I don't really use the placement from the bridge because of its inherent inaccuracy, I've always let it in inches and never mattered.
  15. Apparently there have been limited production runs of these in the past but this seems like a full roll out. Would like to see what these look like when played before judging as some shortie derivatives work better than others visually IMO. I had a Willcock Mullarkey which looked great whereas I thought a short scale Stingray looked a bit like a toy on me when I played it (TBF, the Dadbod fat stomach didn't help)
  16. Beautiful bass - if this was a five you'd have my money!
  17. Today
  18. The bass is now back for sale.
  19. Should add that one of these and direct into the PA works pretty well!
  20. So two pickups. one as close as possible to the neck and one a little further back. This is the pickguard now and what you are looking for For me, that's just a case of printing a new pickguard and possible lengthening the cables at the neck pickup (or something). Pretty simple to change, just moved the sketches for each pickup. The pickguard holes are automatically generated in the pickguard, so thats it. Took just under a min to change and using Apple-Z even less time to put back. Rob
  21. I’ve already done the return. Royal Mail collection tomorrow and request to replace with exact same item.
