Thanks for the great deal and great service, Mark :)
Personally I haven't noticed any hiss with my cabs at lower volumes, it's asif it isn't even on. I've cranked it to almost full just for a couple of notes to test the sound/hum and still nothing. Maybe I'm lucky?
Separate cab and amp OR combo?
I'm no techie type and this is just an educated guess but could the fact that the combos have the amp positioned down the back of the combo mean that the working gubbins (see not a techie :) ) of the amp are 'fairly' close to the driver magnet which being Neo magnets has a stronger magnetic field than traditional magnets, leading to increased hiss... the cabs/amps wouldn't have this issue as they are no where near as close!

Just punting it out there as a suggestion.
Good theory!

I did read in the little manual that came with the cab that the tecamp neo speakers have really good shielding on them, stopping the field...maybe I have read it completely wrong!

Maybe the problem is just the smaller combos (eg 1x12, 1x10).

Edit...just realised another 2x10 is doing the same.

Hmmm!
tbh your ears should be hurting way before it starts making strange noises... which is prior to something going terminally wrong! :)

If you're not sure I'll take it off your hands and you'll even make a profit.
Ah good!

Thing is Im really impressed by this cab and I realise why their prices are normally quite high. BUT, as of today me and the lady have had an awesome offer on a really upmarket flat in London, so it might be a case of having to sell it on or trade down for smaller stuff in the very near future. I think If I gig it though, I won't be able to part with it! Its so well built and so bloomin light! I also have a lot of gas for the Shuttle 9.0 and I can't have both really....Id have to wait now this flat has come up.

Hmmm!
That either blows a hole in that theory or you have cleaner electricity. :)
The 2x10 and 2x12 combos use a Class D amplifier rather than the Class AB one in the 1x10 and 1x12... so that could make a difference too. However, you'd then expect the Puma 350 head to be similarly affected, which it doesn't appear to be. I just tested it, and the hiss is also on the DI out and is especially pronounced when using the Post EQ setting. If anyone wants I can stick a mic in front of it and get a wee recording of what I mean...

As I said the separate heads (Puma 350) may well not be affected at all as they would be standing flat atop a cab (some distance from the drivers) and would also have a large metal base plate shielding them. I'd be interested to know if the amp built into the combo is a fully sealed, self contained unit or if the drivers have some kind of isolation chamber screened from the amp... who's gonna open theirs up?

Of course this is all just different opinions about what constitutes a 'noisy' amp/combo. We may all have very different tolerances to extraneous noise and to be sure my Tecamp Black Cat, was absolutely noise free. :)

IME hiss is something inherent to how an amp is built, so is unlikely to be affected by outside influences. Obviously the relative loudness of the cab in the hissy region will affect how much you hear the hiss, but the hiss going into the cab is usually a constant (though hissy stages beforehand, such a cheap onboard preamps, will further contribute).
Having been a long long time user of Tech SS/Tecamp products.... I can honestly say that their cabinets are pretty decent but their electronics are a bit hit and miss....... to say the least
I think thats true of the earlier amps up to what ended as Tech Soundsystems, but the Puma line is a completely different amp to what came before and have heard nothing negative about them so far.
I still want a Puma 1000. Anyone selling ?

I was referring to amp heads and the known reliability issues of the earlier models.
The jury is still out on whats causing this.

Interestingly almost every amp I've played through in my garage has had an intermittent hiss now and again. Something to do with an appliance automatically going on and off in the house, maybe washing machine/central heating, I don't know. Never quite looked into it.
Its there for a minute the goes away, then returns for a minute.
Never been there on a gig.
Jeez That Bad Bull is cheap really weird the minimum loads though- 8 ohm minimum .
Fine if you have a pair of 8 ohm cabs but useless if you are a one cab 4 ohm person. The bridged mode is pretty useless as I can't think of too many 16 ohm cabs kicking about.

Question regarding fan Puma 212 combo .. fan kicks in initially on power up but then turns off (maybe just system check), did a gig last night (without PA) in a small venue but on 'hollow' stage .. felt ground shaking a bit & thought it a bit boomy but that's probably to be expected.

Thought it had enough power though by itself .. turned everything to 12o'clock for the next band coz they were more 'acoustic' (not really but definately a bit quieter than us). Their bass player used my rig & guitar so I got a good listen & it sounded fine out front.

Amp must have been on 2 hours & when I went to turn off I was pleasantly surprised to find it 'cool' .. not warm & certainly not hot .. guess the fan works fine !

Have you guys had the same experience with the fan etc ?

cheers

Si

ps. easy lift upstairs to van ..
