bigmuff69 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago So I’m interested in buying this fender jazz,it’s a 2000 standard USA,but the seller claims that it came from the factory with block inlays,I’ve looked though the catalogs for 2000-2001 and can’t find it,I’ve searched the serial number on the fender site but it’s returned “no data”,it looks totally legitimate, but any info you guys/girls have before I pull the trigger would be greatly appreciated,he’s asking £700 for it Quote
AndyTravis Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago You wouldn’t go to the effort of faking that era of jazz bass to that level - you’d be making 60’s replicas. It’s legit. but…the blocks. either (most likely) those sticker things you can buy. or someone’s had them added…which seems mental When the 75 reissue was available at the time, both Japanese and AVRI. 1 Quote

Nail on the head. Deffo stickers. Looks really badly done (like I would do). 1 Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Also, the screws and through-body-stringing ferrules are the wrong colour. The bridge pickup is too far away from the bridge too. Definitely not American Standard 60's pickup spacing. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago If the blocks were factory installed inlays, there would be one at the first fret position, so they're likely stick-on junk. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago It looks genuine to me , but the only range I remember with the blocks was the AV 70s reissues, I had one in sunburst , but the logo looks wrong for one of those , stickers would explain it as the first one is missing Quote
Thor Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago As others have said, there’s a few things off, no block marker at the first position, also IMO it’s really unusual to see blocks with no binding (although I think I may have seen one or possibly two over the years), pickup spacing looks off too Quote
AndyTravis Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I just don’t think anyone would bother faking that era of fender bass that closely. They’re decent basses - don’t get me wrong; but if you could get that close to a 2000 jazz, you could do decent replicas of more valuable fender basses. the pickup spacing seems ok to me too. The inlays are the stickers I reckon. 1 Quote

Geek99 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Serial not found is a big red flag the blocks probably are stickers, but the ferrule and string retainers look a bit hooky to me, exactly as they did to @HeadlessBassist I’d say it was a bitsa Edited 6 hours ago by Geek99 Quote
Mrbigstuff Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Just seen the case and candy second time looking. Case is the same as the 2000 fender Dlx jazz I had, and not sure why anyone would go to the lengths of obtaining the tools, catalogues and tags for a £700 sale. Quote
