bass_dinger Posted April 14 Posted April 14 (edited) Has anyone used or had dealings with Gear Up Music? They are based in London's Covent Garden, and seem to offer an easy way of selling instruments. Email, valuation, post the item to them, get the money via bank transfer. I am tempted to try them. However, before I do, has anyone tried them? https://gearupmusic.co.uk/ Edited April 14 by bass_dinger Quote

pineweasel Posted April 15 Posted April 15 There are some genuine looking reviews on Facebook, all positive. I think they sound interesting, maybe worth a punt for something of moderate value. 1 Quote

I would take that Covent Garden address with a pinch of salt. The address is very familiar to me as I have dealt with various companies and charities that use it. It's an office complex that offers all sorts of services from postal boxes, to hot desking, meeting rooms up to shared office space. Many, many companies are registered there: https://open.endole.co.uk/explorer/postcode/wc2h-9jq 1 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Sell Us Your Guitar are reputable - an ex colleague of mine runs it. Its in Manchester, but they offer a fair enough price… Don't know if that helps Quote

Alanko Posted April 15 Posted April 15 £600 for a 2005 MIM P Bass is the upper limit of acceptable. £450 for an Epiphone Thunderbird is a bit perverse? Quote

That is a Classic Pro T-bird - proper neck thru with Gibson USA TB+ pickups. No longer in production. It's top book price but I'd hardly call it "a bit perverse". 2 Quote

It probably out guns a few Gibson T-birds I've played over the years. 1 Quote

Well, the current Thunderbird 64 model (previously known as Vintage Pro then 60s) will knock your socks off - full 9 ply neck thru (7 ply on the Vintage Pro/60s), chrome pickup covers (and excellent pickups underneath), separate bridge and tailpiece. It's probably the best Thunderbird Gibson never made. Slightly biased because I own one, of course... Yes, @NancyJohnson the body/neck shape's on the wonk - but I can sympathise; I haven't been around for quite as long as the T-bird but my body is definitely wonky after all this time too 1 1 Quote

Yes, and even the 100 "proper" Google reviews are suspiciously well-written. Capital letters, full stops, sentences. I guess the question is "is basschat willing to risk my bass guitars on the company?" Hmmm. I might contact them tomorrow. Quote
Yorkielanc Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago This is a genuine review of Gear up Music Anyone having doubts about this company. I will tell you my experience. At first I was very sceptical. I had an Alvarez Electro / Acoustic Guitar and a Yamaha C40 classical Guitar that I wanted to sell. Looking around for someone to buy them. I looked at the reviews for Gear up Music. All the reviews were good. I filled in two valuation forms. One for each guitar. I wanted between £80 - £120 each for the guitars. Within 5 days I got a reply from Dean. He offered me £85 for the Alvarez and £40 for the Yamaha. I wrote back declining the £40. I also enquired whether he had valued the Alvarez, as just an acoustic or Electro / Acoustic. Dean wrote back and offered me £100 for the Alvarez. As he hadnot realised it was a CE model. I accepted £100. Dean explained everything regarding packaging and how I would like to receive payment. I requested payment via PayPal. Two days later the packaging arived. We arranged day and time that Parcelforce would pick the packaging up. All paid for by Gear Up Music. Two days after Dean had recieved and checked the guitar I received The £100 into my PayPal account. Sorry for going on and on about this. Anyone dealing with Gear Up Music. Will have no problems at all. Ask Dean any questions and he will reply. Good luck Eddie (Blackpool) Quote

Reduced to £799, the 2025 one has a vibrola and 2 mini humbuckers and is £1,600. Both pretty accurate 1960s spec down to the Gibson humbuckers, through (not set) neck and Kluson banjo tuners. Hard cases included. Epiphone is making some serious instruments these years. Quote
