Dad3353 Posted Friday at 09:24 Posted Friday at 09:24 I don't know (of the ...) bloke, but it would appear that the issue is not so much his playing of other folk's stuff, as not giving credit to them, claiming it as his own. I play stuff by others often enough, but, if asked (would that there was anyone to ask, of course ...), I'd certainly say where the line or tune came from ('it's a lick I've adapted from Jack Casady', or 'It's my version of 'Dark Star'...). Copying is not a problem in itself; it's when one claims the originality for oneself that it becomes reprehensible. 3 Quote

BassTractor Posted Friday at 10:57 Posted Friday at 10:57 (edited) Aren't the stolen bits just the originals, then, run through some electronics? To which he mimics - sometimes badly? Must admit I haven't listened closely at all, but that was my initial impression. Edited Friday at 12:39 by BassTractor 1 Quote
fleabag Posted Friday at 11:35 Posted Friday at 11:35 Oh, i should say i stole that from the net. I'll tag the original poster.. 1 Quote

asingardenof Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Mr Sapko also seems to have a bee in his bonnet studded cap about Mohini Dey promoting AI tools at the moment. Quote
Cato Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago He turned up on my instagram feed complaining about Davie 504 faking something or other. Calling out the transgressions of other influencers seems to have become his 'thing'. Quote

No, he's done quite a few colabs with them where he has a "go" at their content or something ... so you'd think... then they end up on each other's channels. It's how you make a living through music these days. Have to be a social media content creator and he's playing the game. Good luck to him. 2 Quote

It's a shame in a way, Mr Sapko does have a good feel for a particular flavour of rock bass playing, I'd be way happier to see that front and centre rather than becoming the callout guy. But I guess that's YouTube again. 1 Quote

Wolverinebass Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Turro is a thief and a megabell. Sapko and all the other Youtubers mentioned are megabells. I find them all grating, so I don't watch them. In fact, Sapko, Davie504, Charles Berthoud and Scott Devine are the 4 megabell horsemen of the apocalypse as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who thinks that anything will change other than Sapko's bank balance because of his "moral stand" is deluded. Turro will go back to doing what he does, stealing other people's work and Sapko will get the clicks and ad money from our collective outrage. Then, he might figure out something else to say "bass" about in a hyper stylised northern accent. 2 Quote

It's a joke which came about from one of my own bands. I was discussing cymbals with my drummer and he said he had seen a Zildjian ride cymbal called "the megabell." Basically it had a hugely pronounced and exaggerated dome which I presume was designed that way so that it was impossible to miss. When he told me what it was called, I burst out out laughing saying that it sounded like a great insult. "That guy's not a bellend, he's a f@&*ing megabell!" In that they have transcended the normal level of bellendry to a higher lofty plain that us mere mortals will never attain. 3 Quote

Ah, so it also carries the implication that you'd like to whack them with a drumstick! 3 Quote

I guess the flip side of that is that if you’re a creator, needing to generate traffic for your other content, then you might as well sound the bullhorn for stuff like this. Appreciate his style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it’s totally reasonable to call out the fakery, even if it is partially to drive awareness of your content. I do quite like him, I think he’s the ideal antidote to a of of the plastic veneer of the social media world of bass players who are essentially no carbon copies of one another for the most part. He’s at least got the authenticity of the every day bass player down to a tee. 2 Quote

A friend of mine defined two types of dickhead: A "Poing" sound accompanied by a hand motion approximating a 'unicorn horn'. A "Whoosh whoosh" sound with the head gently swinging from side to side. In the end, only the actions were needed. Quote

Figures i can only dream of on my no-ego, no-bs, no-bait content. It’s depressing, this, is depressing. I actually went on to social media bass groups of over 100K users to ask that folk watch my 1 minute video, and to date, I’ve managed 88 fcking likes. Eighty-eight? Because no one cares about real content or supporting actual musicians. Then everyone complains that another band has split or another venue has shut down. Frankly I might just be the next person to give up altogether, hard work isn’t rewarded, sensationalism and click-bait bs is it seems. 1 Quote

There are things that I won't do and things that I'll never get to do because of the culture of moronic 30 second videos and clickbait crap. People low balling you because what you do isn't valued. Not because you're not good at it. Why would it ever be valued when this is people's perception of what a musician is. Spotify is basically free. What you do doesn't matter. If we all became nodding dogs maybe we might have more luck. Quote
