I don't know (of the ...) bloke, but it would appear that the issue is not so much his playing of other folk's stuff, as not giving credit to them, claiming it as his own. I play stuff by others often enough, but, if asked (would that there was anyone to ask, of course :$...), I'd certainly say where the line or tune came from ('it's a lick I've adapted from Jack Casady', or 'It's my version of 'Dark Star'...). Copying is not a problem in itself; it's when one claims the originality for oneself that it becomes reprehensible. B|

I think it’s more that he’s making money from it, which is morally wrong.

Aren't the stolen bits just the originals, then, run through some electronics? To which he mimics - sometimes badly?
Must admit I haven't listened closely at all, but that was my initial impression.

He turned up on my instagram feed complaining about Davie 504 faking something or other.

Calling out the transgressions of other influencers seems to have become his 'thing'.

I think just yelling about stuff is his thing.

No, he's done quite a few colabs with them where he has a "go" at their content or something ... so you'd think... then they end up on each other's channels. It's how you make a living through music these days. Have to be a social media content creator and he's playing the game. Good luck to him.

There’s a fair amount of banter between Danny, Davie 504 and Charles Berthould on YT.

It's a shame in a way, Mr Sapko does have a good feel for a particular flavour of rock bass playing, I'd be way happier to see that front and centre rather than becoming the callout guy. But I guess that's YouTube again.

I hadn't actually realised that he played the bass at all, so that is a revelation, I thought his job was just moaning about other people on youtube.

Turro is a thief and a megabell. Sapko and all the other Youtubers mentioned are megabells. I find them all grating, so I don't watch them. In fact, Sapko, Davie504, Charles Berthoud and Scott Devine are the 4 megabell horsemen of the apocalypse as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who thinks that anything will change other than Sapko's bank balance because of his "moral stand" is deluded. Turro will go back to doing what he does, stealing other people's work and Sapko will get the clicks and ad money from our collective outrage. Then, he might figure out something else to say "bass" about in a hyper stylised northern accent.

I wonder if there are some terabells and petabells on the YT as well.

It's a joke which came about from one of my own bands. I was discussing cymbals with my drummer and he said he had seen a Zildjian ride cymbal called "the megabell." Basically it had a hugely pronounced and exaggerated dome which I presume was designed that way so that it was impossible to miss.

When he told me what it was called, I burst out out laughing saying that it sounded like a great insult. "That guy's not a bellend, he's a f@&*ing megabell!"

In that they have transcended the normal level of bellendry to a higher lofty plain that us mere mortals will never attain.

Ah, so it also carries the implication that you'd like to whack them with a drumstick!
