Bunion
With a new (to me) Rob Allen fretless there was only one thing I could learn Haven’t had sore finger tips for awhile but this is taking some practice 😄 Lovely tone Rob builds into his basses

Very popular and phenomenal session player. Great taste sir😎 Edited April 9, 2023 by iconic
Reggaebass
I’m on this today, quite a few ghost notes in there so good practice
meterman
Thought I’d have a go at this: The bass line is a piece of Fosters. All ghost notes. Well maybe not ghosts but certainly invisible. Shouldn’t take me more than a few days.
Reggaebass
For something different I’m gonna try to get this one down, this video by Bruno looks like a good place to start me going unless anyone has any other suggestions
Fishfacefour
Just opened up a book of Charlie parker transcriptions. Includes the heads and sax solos. Donna Lee here I come (should only take a few years or so...)
Fishfacefour
Well the Charlie parker was getting a bit hard and a bit samey so been getting my teeth in to this monster groove instead
EssexBuccaneer
In their infinite wisdom my band have decided that we’re going to add Muse ‘Hysteria’ to the setlist - a song that is so far beyond my talent level it’s not even amusing. Ok, maybe it is a bit amusing, but still. I’m treating it as a challenge which is going to make me a better bass player. If I didn’t do that I’d just cry 😛 1

If I didn’t do that I’d just cry 😛 It's rare that any band I play with choose songs with basslines I can't handle but a rock band that I played with over the last couple of years insisted on picking a couple of Richie Kotzen songs (bloody drummer's suggestion). The basslines were b*ggers but the guitarists eventually decided it was too difficult for them to play convincingly and it was dropped. Lucky me.

Rodders
I want to get back in to fretless so I'm learning: Hurt in your Heart - John Martyn. Having a go at After the Gold Rush - Michael Hedges (Michael Manring) now and again too.
rwillett
Money from Pink Floyd. Still struggling around the bridge in the middle. No matter how I play it doesn't sound right
Fishfacefour
Bit of Friday night hubris. Thinking this will be easy as a way to unwind. Grooving away until I hit the Unison line around 2.55. Running it slowly a few times and I'm just about getting it now.
Reggaebass
Still working on this Tony Gadd Bassline which is covered well by Abdell here

Mykesbass
Started working on Memphis Soul Stew by the great Tommy Cogbill (been getting a lot of radio play and is also on a TV and). Blimey, it's a lot faster than it sounds on the radio. Good job it's only a short track as I'm finding it a really physical work out!

Jackroadkill
Somewhat foolishly I agreed to learn this: Am "enjoying" getting to grips with the walking pre-chorus, chorus and outro. Hard going for a beginner, but I'm getting there slowly.
dmccombe7
For the punk covers band i have to learn :- 1. Nobody's Hero - SLF 2. Gotta Getaway - SLF 3. Dancing with Myself - Billy Idol All great songs. I do enjoy the SLF songs as the bass player is pretty good. Dave
