The Yamaha BB mega-thread

I took my BB1100S to band practice for the first time. We're playing something between stoner metal and grunge so pretty noisy and nasty. The BB actually sounded better than my Spector. Played through an Ashdown ABM600 and Gallien Kreuger CX212 & CX115 cabs, it had a nice growl to it and loads of bottom end with a nice midrange punch. I had it set to active with mids boosted and both pickups plus a bit of drive on the amp.

I still love a BB, although these days the weight has taken them away from me... 🙁

Mine is my lightweight bass! Its definitely lighter than my Spector and doesn't neck dive.

Mine weighs at 3.67kgs. No neck dive too.

My moonlight blue P34. Did have a 735a and was after a P35 but as is the way of things, I ended up with the 4 string. No complaints. Great bass!

I also had (and still have, being my number 1) a 735 and I got myself a BBP34

Thank you! I found it on ebay, they make it particularly for bb434/435/bp34 and have different materials. It’s one week turnaround. 

In the drop down I chose category 2 and messaged the seller. Told him its for a BB434. Fits perfectly.

Yeah, it's all relative, but 3.67kgs isnt lightweight for me any more, I'm looking down around the 3kg mark these days...it's a shame...

Ooh I see. Might wanna check Sandberg or the Sire V6 and P6 then. As far as I know they are the lightest even on 4s.

Played my 734a at an audition this week. First time I'd played it live. Through a rehearsal room cheap ashdown tone master and a cheapo hartke cab. 

 

Sounded glorious just in passive p mode. Never had people comment on a small room sound before but all members loved it. Warm, fat, but authorative. Sat in the mix lovely.

Been looking at the BBP34 too as a ‘nice PJ’ but just wondering if it’s gas or if I should really check one out. That or a 434

If you're just dipping your toe in, get a 434!  At least you'll find out if you like the looks and the general ergonomics.

Hadn’t played a BB for years… 

BassBros is extremely bad for the wallet by the way😮

Now I have taken the pickup ramp off, given it a good polish, and had my tech stone the frets it plays like a dream.

I was looking at a rather sexy blue AVRI ii Precision at the same time but the BB very easily won for both tone and playability.

Sorry for spoiling the picture of the bass with my ugly mug 😂😂

yes BBP34, very very killer bass almost a Precision killer.

I would love a BBP35 but sadly they are a touch heavy

I really, really don't need a BBP34, but if a vintage white one came up at the right price I'd really struggle not to buy it.
